    DX symbolism

Does anybody know the symbolysm / hidden meaning behind the Deus Ex logo? The one that revolves around in the menu of each DX game. Maybe I'm just being ignorant but it is a very interesting logo and I'm sure it must represent something. Any ideas / facts or interpretations. Anything else in the game strike you as symbolic? (apart from the obvious things)

All I think it's supposed to be is DE/DX basically. The little orb in the middle forms the middle part of the "E." The "D" points left, the "E" points right.

Of course with the PS2 version they changed it to "DX" and made it more obvious:

Little "orb" in (what appears like) a triangle, where did I see it before?

All seeing eye of the Illuminati? Or God? Or an atom? Or the planet? ... Freemasons have something very similar too.

I love the original logo. It's very mysterious. I don't like PS2 version at all.

I gathered the Whole D E part with the orb representing the centre part of the E. I was just wondering, as per Xcom's post as to whether it has some kind of underlying symbolism....

The orb is seen again in the game (probably unrelated but oh well) in the Hong Kong lab under versalife. It is the world in this case and is being held up by the hand..... one of the best scenes in the game

    Guess it's just a stylish D and a E.

Heh.... if you squint it looks very vaguely like a biohazard sign that's gone through a meat grinder or something....

And yes, the PS2 logo sucked. I hope they have the nice shiny spinning original one in the back of the main menu again.

I highly doubt they'll abandon it, Invisible War kept it intact.

    Yes... Invisible war design philosophy:

Game creator A says: "Hey, lets make Deus Ex 2"

Game creator B says: "Yeah, OK" while nodding in joyous agreement

Game creator A says: "Lets take everything out of the original game, but keep the spinning shiny logo so they know that its a DX game"

Game creator B: "Great idea.... you do it..... I'll watch"

The "D" is a side view representation of an open snake's mouth with fangs. The "X" is two fangs crossed.

Heh. I dunno, but yeah, it looks like it has more meaning than just being stylish.

Don't suppose anyone has an animated gif of the DX:IW logo?

    Yay, thanks

I'm sad enough that I spend time making DX, System Shock and other game related themes for my phone
