Anyone realize the Cleveland class CL is the only ship in the game that has depth charges, but never uses them?

  11. #112
Didn't know any CL's had them, I've never used the Cleveland Class much but I don't recall any depth charges on it.
    Anyways...

Completing Java Sea. The Chester took as many torps but clung on long enough to sink the DD that had atatcked her. The Houston for whatever reason went down easy as pie.

Couple from the first plane challenge. To be honest I was just messin around, the manovres here arent exactly practical.

uhhhhh how did that B-17 get on the flight deck

  14. #115
Lots of CLs were equipped with depth charges, though ASW was mostly left to destroyers.

I can imagine that, although obviously for gameplay's sake the DCs on cruisers have been removed.

Speaking of which, when SHOULD a Cleveland use depth charges? I mean, name a map where there's both a Cleveland and an enemy submarine.

the clevelands nice AA arment is also not able to be used in any map because their are no planes on any maps that have a cleveland. (yes i know theirs that singleplayer one, but that dosent count)

As I've said before. One thing I really hope we get in BS:P is a kind of editor.
Not a literal terrain editor but more a unit editor.

    E.g.

Step 1. Choose your map (Java sea, Suriago Strait, Coral sea...)

Step 2. Choose the units to go on that map. This would have to be a balanced system whereby if the the US side chooses a ship like the Iowa the Japanese get another of the same tactical value. Some kind of points system where every unit is worth a number of points (BB-5, DD-2 etc). Then each side gets a number of points to spend and so each side should end up somewhat balanced.

It would let players use their preffered tactics by not requesting any planes or subs if their a strong BB player, or vice versa.

Step 3. Latsly choose win conditions. Sink the key units, control half the map for a certian time limit, you name it.

This would make for one hell of a great game!

You're forgetting the fact that AA can be used against more than just enemy planes. Try the PT boats in Vella.

Additionally, I think the power to create your own maps - not in the sense of picking which units show up where, but actually making a map from scratch - is something we've all been looking for for the longest time. That way you wouldn't be confined to just the maps Eidos has made, but rather give the community a hand in making maps entirely from scratch.

The victory condition thing is nice and simple, but if it's going that way, you're going to need a lot of options. Another thing to possibly incorporate is the idea of "triggers" - that is, when one team does something, the map reacts to it. For instance, you could make a multiplayer version of Hunt for the Cruiser. The Americans have to make their way to the docked PBY Catalina and the Japanese have to try and stop them there. When and IF the Americans reach the Catalina it will take off, and the Japanese gain usage of their main battle fleet, which contains Nachi. The Americans win by sinking the Nachi, and the Japanese win if they manage to destroy the American fleet.

The trick then would be for the Americans to conserve as much health as possible before engaging the Nachi and her (modified from challenge) escorts. The Japanese would have to try and remove as much health from the American ships before the Nachi appears, since otherwise they'll be overwhelmed.

While a unit editor would allow you to choose which units appear where and possibly allow the manipulation of the models (given the power, you could try recreating Bismarck), the possibilities are endless with a full-blown map editor.

yeah, and also the thing with the balance ship types and stuff, it would be nice as a calculator, but some people might want to create "unbalanced" maps. ingame it would say if it was balanced or unbalanced.

If they're custom-made maps, there's no point in a balancing system. Assuming maps work in the sense they're made in the map editor then imported into the game somehow (then distributed), there's no point...the bad maps will be weeded out by natural selection.

No, it landed by it's self so i waited for it to land and took a picture. Too cool to miss.

Pic from the last plane challenge, attack on force Z. Was a failed mission withonly one BB going down. The plane is the one that dropped this torp, it went down a second later.

    Solomon.

    Steel Monsters.

Random pic from a game on Solomon. Thought we'd lose when our BB man launched everything but BB's but after bombing their shipyards and somehow holding off their BB's we won the match! This was when Renown was heading for my airfield. She got within range after this and started firing but one more hit finsihed her off.
