some things ia`m still missing in the game....

    nice game,
i hope a playable demo comes these year too

Also, i miss the ground units like soldiers, vehicles etc. in the game.

it`s be nice, to attack units of soldiers, jeeps, panzers on islands too

Well, you will be able to hit ground targets, at least what looks like in the video anyway.

The old tech demo had cockpit views but in later material I read it was 3rd person. I hope that if it had been dropped that it could be modded.

    Problems

It's better just to focus on the naval and air combat in Battlestations Midway. I think the team didn't want to add the stress of managing ground, naval, and air forces, it would be too overwhelming. Mithis wants to be to realistic about this game. Don't ask me just read the previews and look at the images.

I would understand if they didn't want cockpits in the game. If you read the number of planes they had which I'm guessing is over 30 planes it would be a real pain to go get every detail of the cokpits of every plane into the game. If you want a flight simulator go pickup IL-2 or Pacific Fighters, this is a strategy game. The developers want you to fly or drive with still having a sense of strategy. Thats why they decided all the action will be 3rd person.

While I used to be a big fan of first person for games, whether shooter or vehicles, I feel third person gives the player a better situational awareness. A bit more peripheral vision. Plus it is often better visually to see your plane or ship from an external view so you can apprecitate all the detail. Those who are worried about no cockpit view may be disappointed at first. However, I think for the scope of this game--where you are more than just a pilot and will be jumping from vehicle to vehicle as needed--third person is best.

i think that the transports and landing craft are only there for you to defend while they go off and fight on the land, and in some multiplayer game type i read about where you have to get your landing force to the other teams island while stopping their force from reaching your island.

That sounds awesome, I think that would be sweet and hard i would play it
    all day.

ya, you would have to split your fleet in two, one to find and kill the enemy, and the other to protect the landing force,

That is what I am thinking.

Again,if this game is going to 'End at Midway' I really cant see many landing of troops really being involved with this game.

I also feel that will detract from this games purpose, naval battles, now that being said, maybe there COULD be some screening actions i.e shore bombardment ect,but then your getting into a whole different type of game.(defending land vs invaders/shooting at ships from land based arty)

Personally,I wouldnt care for this, then your turning the game into a different type of game.(Sudden Strike II comes to mind here with landing of forces on beaches)

No, you started off on a carrier manning an AA gun protecting for fleet. Then you controlled your fleet, 1 ship at a time, through a mine field and avoiding torps. Then you controlled a tank up a beach to theis mountain avoiding mines. THEN *pant*pant* a suedo first person view shooting weak points in a mountain to destroy a cannon before it destroys you.

no,I dont remember this game..I think around those times I was still playing "bookcase games" for the most part.(early to mid 80's?)

i am not sure about single player, but i have heard that there will be a multiplayer game type where you escort a landing fleet

as it says in this bit from http://uk.videogames.games.yahoo.com...ay-f32772.html
"Yet perhaps the most interesting multiplayer feature is the island capture mode. Both sides will have an island at the top or bottom of the map, and the objective is to get your side's landing forces from your island to the other side's island first. Of course, there's going to be a huge battle in the middle of the map, so the trick will be trying to clear the way for your transports while at the same time trying to take out the enemy transports on the way to your island."
