ShockEd: why doesn't the level "re-set" after exiting game mode?

Question ShockEd: why doesn't the level "re-set" after exiting game mode?

In ShockEd, after Alt+E'ing back into the editor, every change you made in the level while playing it now applies! Items are moved, or gone, or worse!

I realize it is supposed to do this (just the way they did ShockEd as opposed to DromEd), but why would Irrational want to do this? It's stupid!

It's not so stupid if you want to examine certain phenomenon and other things, but it should have been something optional I think that you could turn off

Sorry, should have clarified. It is (in my frank opinion) stupid that they make me use that feature in ShockEd.
