Legacy of Kain HD Collection - Image & Comment By Games Radar

Image URL: oi50.tinypic.com/24w98b4.jpg

Games Radar:
From about 1999 to 2003, the Legacy of Kain series became a widespread obsession with gamers. Known for nuanced storytelling, unconventional protagonists, amazing boss fights and rich Shakespearean baritones, the series raised the bar for writing and acting in games, and pulled players along an increasingly complicated narrative that involved vampires, altered timestreams, soul-eating and a centuries-long war between two ancient, alien races. And then it just sort of… went away.

Now that there’ve been rumors of a possible reboot, however, interest in the series has picked up a little, and what better way to reacquaint ourselves with the series than to play through versions of its latter four chapters that don’t look muddy (and reward us for our dedication with fatter gamerscores)? Better still, we could go through the whole story in one fell swoop; any cliffhanger endings would just be an incentive to start up the next game.

And yeah, realistically, we probably wouldn’t get the original PSOne/Dreamcast Soul Reaver (as depicted in our mockup box art above) if this actually happened – which would be a shame, because it was arguably the best game in the series, as well as a much better entry point than Soul Reaver 2. But hey, this isn’t about what we think we’ll see, it’s about what we want to see. (And while we’re on the topic, we wouldn’t say no to an HD-optimized version of Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, either.) - Source: #3 at bit.ly/HVXmFb

IGN: Retro remakes we need right now! What would your pick be?

Amy Hennig is one of the best writers in the industry. Most recently known for her work on the Uncharted series, Hennig formerly worked on a few titles about Vampires and Vengeance known as the Legacy of Kain series. The story tells a tale about both Raziel and Kain over a total of five games, any of which are strong enough to stand on their own if remade in HD.

I came into the series with The Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, a 3D platformer featuring the introduction of Raziel and the setup for the interwoven journey both he and Kain will go on over the rest of the series. The final chapter to the story is one of the biggest surprises and, in my opinion, one of the greatest revelations I’ve ever experienced in any form of media. The fact that this hasn’t been remade in HD is a shame, as it only limits others from that same moment of realization and surprise I was able to enjoy.

'PlayStation Offficial Magazine UK' on Soul Reaver HD

PlayStation Offficial Magazine - UK: 7 overlooked PlayStation games that deserve HD revamps

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver (PS1)
The Soul Reaver arm of the Leacy of Kain series is a Gothic revenge drama that follows the story Raziel, a wraithlike vampire who is out to get even with the titular Lord Kain and his clan – who betrayed him out of jealousy. Raziel’s odyssey sends him spiralling into a world of supernatural mystery and eventually becomes something much more elaborate than a simple quest for vengeance. The events of the first game culminate in a time-bending encounter that sets the scene for Soul Reaver 2. Dante’s early outings got a fresh coat of paint recently, courtesy of the Devil May Cry HD Collection, but we’d love to see less prominent action-adventure stars like Raziel step back into the spotlight.

A Legacy of Kain HD Collection would be ideal. I've always adored this series for its gorgeous graphics, intricate story, and unforgetable characters. It's a shame that the series hasn't seen much activity since Legacy of Kain: Defiance in 2003, but I know fans haven't abandoned the series whatsoever (I know I haven't). Ever since the original Blood Omen, this series has been a classic, and it deserves to be rereleased in its HD glory. Especially now with rumors about Soul Reaver possibly being remade, a HD collection would be a superb way to reignite gamers' interest in the series. Legacy of Kain deserves to reclaim its former glory!

When I 1st gotten in to the Legacy of Kain series, it was because of Soul Reaver & Raziel. If this is a new game, even though he's trap in the blade, I hope its the return of Raziel.

Why not include BO1? Even as an unlockable extra or something. The newly introduced might be kind of lost with out the first chapter such as I was before I played it.

if the 4 game remaster was a reality,
all it takes is a confirmation by the dev's that the collection is real,
and just a little bit of happiness would enter my life

Honestly, updating the series with modern technology (retaining story and gameplay and all, though) is probably the best option to actually get enough people into it to make a real profit.

Just have our moderator The Hylden do all the new models, by himself, with no other support, and then we could watch him go insane, but the models would look awesome so it's all good in the end.

Anyone who chooses to moderate a place on the internet is already insane. So I fully support this. XD

Honestly the best updates for this series so far have been Blood Omnicide and Soul Revenant (by Raina respectively) they are keeping the tried and true Zelda gameplay and looking amazing. Plus Hyldens defiance textures are more than enough of a visual haul that's needed. If BO2 didn't use such a cruddy engine and texture editor it would look amazing. Updating that game even if it's just retext is and would be a pain. You'd have to overhaul everything because unlike SR2 smooth models (best looking game in the series IMO) the engine BO2 used made everything look like a block of cheese. I'm Sure Hylden could do something with BO2 though. He's a master.

An HD re release is kinda pointless anyway. The PC versions have game pad support. Look way better than anything an HD port can do and are cheap as dirt. Plus even non PC gamers can run them on old rigs. HELL in playing Nosgoth on my old laptop. Looks like potatoe but playing the old LOK games they look amazing.

well..... I still want the 4 game remaster.
yah, you can play those exact 4 games I'm talking about on pc,
and yes instead of the dreamcast version of soul reaver I can play it with mods using the soul revenant skins/mods.
but the thing is I want to play those games today.

the bloodomnicide project is just the early parts to blood omen and the rest of the game is probably not finished/updated.
same thing with the soul revenant project.

right now I have no plans to build a PC since I've just spent 5 grand on a tv. (it's going to be a while.)
http://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-65EC9700-oled-tv

and well...... right now I just want the 4 game remaster, (soul reaver dreamcast included)
if the devs ever remake soul reaver or blood omen with updated graphics/controles good!

but for right now I'm just asking for a simple remaster.
1080/60 fps. a new fresh coat of paint for a more vibrant color palate,
and no bugs or glitches. (hopefully they fix the crow at the beginning of soul reaver)
