Unhappy WinXP: Problems with movies and sound

Hey there. For some reason, none of the in-game movies play and the sound effects don't play, though the music runs fine. I have installed the nVidia patch, the upside down movie patch, and have tried setting the DirectX sound accelleration to basic, but none of this has done anything to help the situation. Here are my specs:

    PIV: 2.26 ghz
    512 MB RAM
    Geforce 4 Ti4200
    SoundBlaster Live!
    DirectX 8.1
    Windows XP

Any help would be much appreciated.

Give Black Materia Cloud's method a try.

Sorry, but it didn't do anything.

Try unloading and reloading the video and audio compression. It's inside Add/Remove programs, inside windows setup, multmedia. I guess you should reboot between the removing and adding.

You "may" also want to go in the multimedia in Control Panel, and go to the last tab and remove the stuff under video and audio codec, after you remove the compression drivers through windows setup (windows won't let you unload all the stuff....and I'm using Win98 as a reference, I don't have WinXP. I didn't have any problems with drivers when I used this method, with 98.)
