How do I deactivate the game on my PC?

FFVII DRM will interfere with Windows error reporting

A few days ago, the re-release of FFVII was up on the store by mistake and hapless me happened upon it by fluke. There's another thread here about it, but long story short the serial didn't work, I was refunded, and I uninstalled the game.

Ever since uninstalling, I've seen strange system behavior. The system sound for device disconnected keeps playing.

I tracked down the source to services starting and stopping. These services are all related to error reporting and user experience services. I've seen problems out of Application Experience, which is related to aitagent.exe. This service randomly starts and stops at time when it is not scheduled, and would not cease until I disabled it. Problem Reports and Solutions Control Panel Support started doing the same thing immediately after.

My system is also hanging intermitently, which has not happened ever in three years since I built it. This is not due to a sudden performance demand.

The SecuRom software has something nasty in it that does not go away on uninstal. I'm not sure how it works yet because it is not detectable like a standard rootkit. This software also interferes with the operation of AdAware by preventing its GUI classes from executing. The task manager shows the process, but nothing else happens except when the application is launched by context menu.

This is just a heads up to others out there.

Great, guess they better get on it, and fix asap.

I have not run into any issues after uninstalling the game, but it should be looked into.

I am planning to clean install Windows 8 Pro on my PC and I would like to deactivate my copy of Final Fantasy VII PC before I do so. How do I deactivate the game so that I retain my three activations for future use and reinstallation? Thanks.

By uninstalling the game you are modifying the registry with this change. So in order to activate properly you should just utilize the uninstall feature of the game and follow the walkthrough steps to complete it. Once you get to your new system you should be able to install the game again without an issue. Please make sure you use the Square Enix North America login to get into the account once you get everything set up.

Selling Computer, how can I Deauthorize to reinstall?

I have FF7 PC Remake from Square Enix store. I installed it on my laptop that I'm now selling. I have it installed on my new laptop already, but I want to deauthorize that old machine before I sell it. How can/do I do that?

    Thanks.
