It sounds to me like the game is working but your game save file got corrupted. Could be a result of the update changing something or making an incompatibility. Try using the LOAD GAME feature and see if it works. If not, try making a NEW GAME and see if that works.
If neither work, it could be Sleeping Dogs. Try verifying your game's cache integrity through Steam. See if it finds anything wrong. If it does, let the files be corrected/redownloaded and installed.
If you are still having problems, make note of the error you get and be AS DETAILED AS POSSIBLE. Take a screenshot of the error if you can.
You indicate you are on Windows 10. I'm more familiar with how to do this on Windows 7 so just try to copy the steps on your end:
1) Look for EVENT VIEWER in your search box
2) Click on WINDOWS LOGS (a menu will drop down)
3) Click on APPLICATION (you will see a list of info; ignore it for now)
4) On the right-hand side, Click FILTER CURRENT LOG
5) Under EVENT LEVEL, check CRITICAL, WARNING, and ERROR. Click OK.
6) Locate the time and date the crash occurred around and review the logs.
If you have any CRITICAL, ERROR, or WARNINGS around the time and date that you witnessed the crash, post them here as well. The more information we can gather on your problem the better.
OK; so to review, I'm asking for the following:
-verify that you can load saved games (try to load a game)
-verify that you can make a new save game (try to make a new save game)
-verify the files aren't corrupted/incorrect (verify your game's cache)
-detail the error window (screenshot the error window/screen)
-detail your application logs for the game crashes (post the application logs)
I'll try to help you as much as I can.
