[07-08-2016] PC Patch notes for patch 1.0.668.1 (Patch #7)

UPDATE [07-13-2014]: The patch is now also live on the Windows Store platform.

We have just released the seventh PC patch for Rise of the Tomb Raider, build 1.0.668.1. This patch adds improvements for DX12 multi-GPU support (this includes NVIDIA SLI and AMD CrossFireX), as well as a variety of other fixes. For details please see below.

This patch will be applied by Steam and the Windows Store automatically when you next start the game. If your game does not update, please restart the Steam or Windows Store client.

We recommend using the following drivers, especially for Multi-GPU:

This patch includes the following improvements:
    • Adds DirectX12 Multi-GPU support. Many of you have requested this, so DirectX 12 now supports NVIDIA SLI and AMD CrossFireX configurations.
    • The benefits of DirectX 12 are still the same, but now you are less likely to be GPU bottlenecked and can reach higher framerates due to the improved CPU utilization DirectX 12 offers.
    • Adds utilization of DirectX 12 Asynchronous Compute, on AMD GCN 1.1 GPUs and NVIDIA Pascal-based GPUs, for improved GPU performance.
    • On the latest Windows 10 version, V-sync can now be disabled (Windows Store version), and behavior of disabled V-sync has been improved (Steam version).
    • Improvements to stereoscopic 3D rendering, including fixes for NIVIDA Surround and AMD Eyefinity in combination with stereoscopic 3D.
    • Improved default settings for certain integrated GPUs.
    • Removes the Voidhammer Shotgun for users that do not have Cold Darkness Awakens DLC or have not yet unlocked it by rescuing prisoners in Cold Darkness Awakens.
    • A fix for a save issue where some game state could get lost in very rare circumstances.
    • This patch force-disables the Steam Overlay when using DirectX 12. This is due to stability issues with the Steam Overlay in combination with DirectX 12.
    • A fix for crashes with VXAO enabled on NVIDIA GTX1080 cards.
    • A variety of other smaller optimizations, bug-fixes, and tweaks.

While we expect this patch to be an improvement for everyone, if you do have trouble with this patch and prefer to stay on the old version we made a Beta available on Steam, Build 647.2, that can be used to switch back to the previous version.

We will keep monitoring for feedback and will release further patches as it seems required. We always welcome your feedback!

The 1.0.668.1 hotfix that was just released will take care of that.

Awesome. Can we expect a new patch for Xbox One too? Minus the graphical aspects, the XB1 version suffers a few of the same issues as PC regarding servers, bugs etc. It's been a long time since the last one.

ROTTR doesn't like custom Crossfire/SLI profiles. Try to use default profile.

I'm having a problem with DX12 where the game will freeze or stop rendering until I ALT-TAB. Once the Windows dialog appears that shows you the available windows to switch to (ALT held down), the game will continue rendering again but will stop a few seconds later until I repeat the process. This doesn't happen with DX11 but then I can't use both GPUs because the NVIDIA control panel doesn't recognize the UWP version of the game.

I would prefer to stay running DX12 so I can finally run mGPU to get a steady 60fps at 4k.

    A couple of side notes:
-Setting at Texture Quality [VERY HIGH] tanks my framerate at 4k. The game recommends 4GB VRAM so I should be ok with the 6GB VRAM on the 980 Ti. This worked fine for me when the game first came out and I was running at 1080p DX11 due to lack of SLI support.
-Setting Purehair [ON] or [VERY HIGH] also tanks my framerate, again this worked OK before even though the hair did flicker sometimes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same exact problem with the Windows store version. I have verified that it does not happen with the Steam version of the game. The 'few seconds' you get are when there is some sort of overlay on the game, like the title bar or the little handle at the bottom. Disabling full screen resolves the problem. Turning off multiple monitors and gsync does not resolve the problem.

I will happily provide whatever information you think might be useful.

Glad to see I'm not the only one. The game is basically unplayable like this and having to disable full screen is not a real solution. More and more I feel like the Windows Store version of the game is a 2nd class citizen and I've had nothing but trouble with it since it launched. Multiple achievements glitched out on me and will not unlock, unable to use SLI in DX11 mode, waiting 6 months for mGPU support only for this to happen.
