    Tutorial/hint giving? Who needs tutorials?

The more I hear about Horizon, the more I like it.

    Hi !

So, I'll just quote what I posted on TRF.

Gameplay (Lara walking to the basecamp) : Lara talks way too
much. "Got to keep moving" and "Come on, you can do this, move".
They should delete most of the dialogues that she says in the first
part. Why ? Because I think it's not necessary at all. She's
supposed to be frozen, iced. If I was her, I would be lost, just
walking and looking for something that may help me.
Then you see the the branches on the ground and you understand
what she wants to do. A fire. We are Tomb Raiders, we've seen
more difficult than this, believe me, we'll understand that we need
some branches to do a fire. It's not necesarry to make her talk to
help the player. It's helping too much.
I'm not saying I don't want to hear her talking but... sometimes it's really not necessary at all. I would never say "Come on, you can do this, move" in my life.

I imagine a lot of it is her internal dialogue she is using to keep herself motivated in such dire circumstances . I do that too when I feel hopeless ...

Yes, but it's Lara Croft. She survived to Yamatai, she's strong now. The storm/snow's not gonna kill her. I don't know, Ican't imagine her doing this, saying this, that's why I feel weird when I hear her saying things like that.

So, saying "I can do this" means she isn't strong? I beg to differ

Sometime the problems is not what she says, but the way she says it.
I have not played AOD since years because of the gameplay. But when I think to Lara, I think to the one from LAU. I remember the things the says in AOD and I think it was sounded pretty bad. Plus, the french traduction was awful. I would vote for "I like Lara's commentary, but not the hint-giving".

I would like to hear her saying things about the places she discover. Like "This is it, I found it ! The kind of things MY (vision) of Lara Croft would say.
And not "I need to do that, that, and that. You/I can do this, move." I don't like that. She talks to much to herself.

I don't really understand this thread. I know things were merged so I'm trying to bring myself up to speed, but I'm confused. I see that this thread contains the poll we previously talked about, regarding Lara's verbal commentary about her situation or giving hints on what to do next. But at the same time, the thread title inspires the thought that the OP is asking the developer to stop including on/off options and stop catering to the player.

For starters, when did tailoring become a bad thing? I mean, last I checked, it was a good idea in the event that some people might not want hints at all whereas others may. Having the option to turn hints on or off has never been a negative thing; especially if in this case, turning hints off also disables Lara from speaking out loud about what to do, including the "gotta build a fire," comment and similar ones.

Not to mention that everyone plays games differently. That's why there are numerous play styles. Let's use The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for example; some people might want to do all the side quests first and then the primary ones. Perhaps it's the opposite. Perhaps some would rather explore and locate every landmark before they even touch the quests. The same can be said for Tomb Raider. Perhaps some people would like the occasional hint in case they get stuck or confused. I'm sure there are a lot of people who would rather figure it out on their own and then Google it or consult the strategy guide if they couldn't.

There's nothing wrong with having options when there are multiple ways of doing things.

I went with yes to commentary but no the hint giving as it did seem to be making things too obvious when would rather figure it out.

I like Lara's commentary, but not the hint-giving

I don't mind Lara talking to herself, I quite liked how they did it in Underworld, with Lara recording her adventures on her video camera. But I don't know how frequent it is in ROTTR since I'm not watching any gameplay aside from the trailer that was shown at E3. I will say that I hope it's not as frequent as it was in LCTOO, good god, there was so much hint giving dialog in that game I turned down the voice audio in the options and I've never done that in a video game before. It was so obnoxious.

I don't mind a bit of chat but that seemed a lot so would rather not have it.

Yes, and it probably keeps her sane if she talks to herself--keeps her calm too. Also, it helps the player if you're not sure what to do next, I think that's the whole point.

Edit: I keep getting suckered in to watch gameplay footage and cutscenes for this game. I can't stand it.

Since the Trilogy in witch Crystal made it Very Clear we are Stupid. Its like a Crystal/Square Employee is standing between two Fans with a Shirt saying: Im With Stupid

If its an Opener to the Game so to speak like a Mini Tutorial for the first few Minutes from where Lara wakes up after the Avalanche to walking to the Camp and getting the Wood to go back and Light the Fire should be enough as a Lesson for the Player as a Remembrance from whatever you do or take in the Game should be Self Evident as to what you should do next or why you must go back, because then basically Lara will and Hopefully will Shut Up in telling us what to do and where to go in witch at the End of the Gameplay Tutorial she gave us a Hint of a Path we should take that should have an Option Dont Show Dont Tell, My World Now.

Yup -- for me too. Him constantly saying everything, even things like "I shouldn't drop the elevator while I'm inside it" has not bothered me the slightest, so I don't see why it has to be such a big deal to have TR following norms in the industry...

I don't mind her talking as long as she doesn't say what to do or where to go next. The hints did seem a bit excessive so hope this is right at start of game like a tutorial.
