Nosgoth State of Play: January 2015

    Hey all,

We just posted this on the blog -- it's the first of a regular (at least monthly) series where we keep everyone informed as to what's going on in the world of Nosgoth. It's re-posted in its entirety here as well for easy reference. Cheers!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As we promised in our letter to the community last week, we want to provide more you with more transparency in the development of Nosgoth. You've asked for it and you deserve it, so it only makes sense that we start an ongoing "State of the Game" series that coincides with the launch of our Open Beta. Our goal here is to keep you informed and excited about Nosgoth as we let you in on our plans and progress on a regular basis.

With the intro out of the way, let's get to it. Here's what we have on tap:

February 3 - The Summoner (New Class)
We've already covered the next Vampire Class quite a bit multiple blog posts (Found Here, Here, and Here) and offered up a couple of in-depth walkthroughs on our live developer stream (Here and Here), but next week is the week that you'll finally get your hands on her.

In our extensive internal tests, the Summoner's beckoned Ghouls have added an interesting layer of strategy to the tactics and teamwork of those who use her AND battle against her. Plus, the added chaos and fun that her minions bring to an already-hectic battlefield cannot be underestimated.

    February - Spectator Mode
We've had requests for more eSports integration, and the team over at Square Enix Montreal (the same team that brought you Noscam and Private Matches late last year) is finishing up their next addition to Nosgoth -- Spectator Mode!

Particularly useful for broadcasters and eSports players, Spectator Mode will allow viewers to watch a game of Nosgoth from several different angles in addition to match statistics, a HUD toggle switch, and more. Expect a more detailed blog on this particular feature later next month!

Late February/ Early March - The Shield Bearer (New Class)
We posted a lore and overview blog about the next Human Class on our blog earlier this week, and revealed him exclusively on our developer stream last Friday, but the Shield Bearer is still several weeks away with an early release estimate of late next month or soon thereafter.

Despite appearances, the Shield Bearer isn't a melee Class (those axes are actually throwing weapons) but he is still most certainly a defensive-minded character. We're spending the next several months balancing his various abilities and buffs and once we're happy with where he's going, we'll announce a more specific release date.

    February/ March - Daily Rewards
For players who put their time in each and every day, this feature is definitely one of the most gratifying. Sometime right before or after the release of the Shield Bearer is the period in which we'll be introducing a Daily Reward system that awards currency bonuses, various boosts, new skins and other goodies for sustained visits. It's another way we can provide some replay incentive for everyone and we hope to include some pretty cool goodies once we've put it all together.

    March - Deceiver Evolved Skin
At some point in March, we should have the "Evolved" version of the Deceiver Vampire Class ready to go out to the masses. The character is undergoing the final bits of approval now and if all goes according to plan, will be released before the end of March. Expect more specific detail on this one... (wait for it...) soon, with a special surprise blog.

Late March/ Early April - The Crucible (New Map)
You've been asking for more Vampire-themed maps, and the Turelim-focused Tyrant lair known as "The Crucible" is what we're working on next. The layout is close to finished (line of sight and balance are still being fine-tuned) and the artwork is being built as we speak. Even so, we were confident enough in its current state to show a few images from the in-progress map on last week's developer stream. We also posted a little background on the map's history and focus a few months back.

    Spring 2015 - Item Crafting / Trading
There isn't a whole lot to elaborate on at this point, but one of big feature pushes next season is introduce a long-requested Crafting and Trading system that will allow players to do exactly what it sounds like. We're finishing up the design of this system now (large parts of it are finished), with the majority of work left to do in the implementation phase. We'll have more on this when we can.

    Spring 2015 - Daily Challenges
You can't have a free-to-play game without some kind of daily challenge program and Nosgoth will be no different. We've just started the ground work on this, so it's still several months away. When it arrives, though, we're hopeful that it will provide some additional layers to the meta game.

    Spring 2015 - Prestige Skins
You guys have been asking us for a long time when high-level Human Skins are coming and the straight answer is: "we're still working on them." A lot of the work on these is still related to concept approval process and then getting them built out in-game, but we do have at least one Skin that is already on its way to the creation station and that's the Elite Hunter. Art Lead Eric Majka showed it off on our last dev stream, which you can find right here, and we have included the art below.

And that's what we have planned so far (not including balance and bug fix patches). Of course, there are a number of other things we're talking about internally as well (new modes, additional classes, etc.), but we're not yet at a point where there's really anything to talk about just yet. Hopefully, though, this road map to Nosgoth's future helps paint a better picture of what's to come.

What do you think? Do you like what we have planned? Are there other things you'd like to see us cover in the Nosgoth State of Play? Let us know on our official forums and we'll see if we can include it in our next edition.

Until next time, thank you once again for your ongoing support!

It's such a long wait until the crafting system and prestige skins, but I'm happy for the update.

Daily quests? Oooh, sounds fun. Hope for some cool rewards (like crafting materials maybe?)

Sounds awesome - thanks for the update.

Any news on the anti-cheat system?

It's all looking good thus far. Of course you should probably add the caveat that it's all subject to delays and such. :P

Wow the requested roadmap! Awesome guys! Shows we got a long way to go, and that it is well worth it

Thanks for the nice move and the transparency instead of the soon mumbling. Thumbs up!

Erik mentioned Steam Trading as an option in the swift0r stream. It would be great if thats still an option. Selling stuff on steam market is a huge thing and personally got me a lot playtime on TF2 and money out of it. Thanks to all the people that bought Australiums for hundreds of euros
Corey mentioned something else though on the other stream. Would love to have SE allow it!
Remove the Lobbies! Move the banners to the death screens!

Getting back into Nosgoth after the AAA holiday titles. Most of the games have been broken and its been an issue just to find updates when games might be playable. It's amazing that you guys are actually listening to what people want, giving details for whats planned, and letting the devs speak directly about whats being worked on. Easily one of the best communities around, keep doing awesome stuff.

We will almost certainly be using trading via Square's database, not Steam. So no dice on that, sorry. Eric was mixed up.

Something to look forward too, thanks guys!

And maybe there's a name change for the Shield Bearer in one of those upcoming updates?

We'll share the concept art of that one too before the skins get released, but not just yet

Valentines day? Something involving ripping out hearts? Couldn't find the famous one, so this will have to do.
