Thread: PC Game Crashes on startup - Do you have this problem?

    Same problem here, it start the launcher and close it after 1 second.

    I just wanted to add some information that i'v learned.

    I recently bought tomb raider, and had the problem when starting the game... when the first point that i entered the actual gameplay(after the opening cinematic where shes in the ship and it breaks apart) when she comes up out of the water and its now ingame, the game would crash... not only does it crash but it resets my system. Screen goes black and then its booting up... from then on anytime it crashes it also reboots. REALLY annoying.

    Anyways, i spent alot of time going through threads, trying different things to try and fix it. My drivers were up to date, but i went and checked and found out there was another driver i could try that wasn't available through nvidia experience, it was a BETA driver. So i installed that and tried again and it worked, i mean i could play.... i played awhile in the first level until i got to a cutscene at this door you open with whiteman and then it crashed(rebooted).

    When i got back into windows and i loaded it up, it would crash as soon as i got to the menu... i tried it a few times and then relised i was back to the drawing board. So then i tried to turn of tesselation, aswell as Exclusive fullscreen(which is honestly the first thing i recommend everyone do, as it seems to work for a large amount of people) and then tried that, and it worked. I mean i could play again, so i played for awhile, hours with no problem... then it crashes again, or maby i just quit the game for the night im not sure but again when i loaded the game up again it would just crash as soon as i got to the menu...

    So out of desperation i try turning exclusive fullscreen back on, this time it doesn't crash at the menu so im happy, i dont honestly know WTF is going on but.. start my save up, when i get into the game it crashes... each time it crashes im getting rebooted and having to wait through the entire boot process, which is really annoying. Some how i figure out that if i turn exclusive fullscreen on when i start the game up (from the windows loader options) then when i get to the ingame menu i go and turn it back off, then i can go into the game and it will be fine... this works for probably another 5-6 hours of gameplay, a couple different gaming sessions... then it crashes and doesn't work anymore.

    I try all sorts of things, there is a list somewhere and i go through everything trying to make it work, i go back to my old(latest) driver. There is one last option that i'v heard mentioned a few times that i havn't tried because of the hassle, which is to revert my driver back to a driver number 310.90, which is fairly old but some people have said it fixed it for them. The problem is you have to uninstall your current driver, and redownload this other driver which is 200mb or so, my connection isn't that good so it takes about a half hour. So i uninstall my driver and reinstall this new(old) one, reboot my system, and now its working again... no problems.. well, i play for another 4-5 hours maby no problems before it crashes again, this time when windows loads back up and im expecting it to not work anymore, it still loads up and i can still play... but now its crashing intermittently, could be 10 minutes, could be 45-60 minutes... it tends to crash during cinematics mostly, from what i'v read this might have something to do with laura's hair but i don't know.

    At this point im almost done the game so im just playing it till it crashes and loading it back up, atleast i can play abit before it crashes, so that i can finish the game. But OMG this game has given me SOOOOO much trouble its crazy, i don't think i'v ever played a game that was so unstable, except for maby a game 10+ years ago, and from all the threads i'v read i can see im not the only one. The actual game itself is good, and im pretty internet savvy that i'v been able to look up alot of stuff and try a lot of different solutions, but what about all the people out there that arn't internet/computer savvy and just want to play? I paid over 60$ for this game, its not right and i have half a mind to ask for my money back, atleast i did before i was able to get it to work for 10-30 minutes at a time, if i can atleast beat the game i'll probably just move on but, i just keep thinking of all the people who are getting screwed on this game.

    Anyways i hope someone can read this message and see and try something that works that they havn't seen anywhere else. Thanks

    Having the same issue. I bought the game when it came out and never stuck to playing it through the end due to continuous crashing. I thought after more than half a year, all the bugs will be squashed but when I tried playing recently, still the same issue although to be fair I was able to play for an hour but it stopped responding. Better than my 10-20 mins. crash session post-launch.

    I'm having the same problem. I can load the menu screen and then when I hit play, there's a black screen for 2-5 seconds and then it crashes. I've tried everything - no exclusive fullscreen, turned off tesselation, run on low graphics setting, did directX9 instead of 11, updated all my drivers (gfx to the most recent beta), run in winxp compatibility mode, verified integrity of game cache, reinstalled. Have never been able to get the game to run.

    Hi I hope I can get some help, i have a similar problem. I get the Launcher then when i click play the screen flickers black for a second and then crashes to desktop. This crash do not produce a .mdmp file, i have this same (exactly the same crash) problem with Deus Ex: Human Revolution and SleeapingDogs. Have gone thru DxDiag and updated graphic, sound and system devices. Nothing have help so far. All i can think of is up to date, driver vise.

    Im playing on a macbook pro retina mid 2012,RAM: 16Gb, GPU's: gforce GT650M at 1024Mb VRAM, Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024Mb VRAM,CPU: Intel i7 quad-core 2,7 Ghz, OS: Mac OSX 10.9.2 and Steam.

    I didn't see any dump files.

    I am running through steam and can get the window that allows me to change settings. I've tried running at many settings. I turned on/off tesselation, fullscreen, and exclusive fullscreen with no changes. I am pretty sure I have tried doing all the "simple fixes" with nothing helping. When I hit play, the game opens but within 3 seconds the game crashes and closes.

    I purchased the game a week again and it doesn't run ,I tried a lot of thinks to fix it but it still doesn't work , I downloded the game like 3 times and read 4 steam support forums and I spoke with a steam support 2 h without finding a resolution.

    Hi I'm having this problem too! I've tried all the suggestions in the other threads and nothing seems to help. I have a fairly new laptop and everything has been recently updated. I can get it to start to about the opening credits. One time on low settings I got it to play to the beginning of the crash scene. But now it crashes at the same place as before, the opening credits.

    i7-2630 2.00 GHz, 6GB DDR3 Ram, Intel HD 3000. All drivers recently checked and updated.

    Game is on lowest settings. Computer currently at 1600x900 Widescreen. I have tried at various resolutions including 1600x900 which produced the best result. The game launches and the first Eidos clip pops up no problem. When it reaches the loading screen or what I assume is the loading screen, the screen looks like it got punched and shattered all sorts of blue and green pixels but the majority of the screen turns white. Some writing of the advertising is visible in the bottom right corner of the screen. Bought this in a bundle primarily for the game after reading that there are no problems running it on low settings on Intel HD Graphics. Would love to make this work would be a shame to have paid for a bundle for a game that is supposed to work and doesn't. Thanks in advance!

    I have the same issue ....

    Here is my situation

    Motherboard: ASUS M2A-VM
    CPU: AMD Dual Core 7850 @ 3.0 ghz
    RAM: 6GB (only 4GB usable for XP side -- will explain that in a bit)
    Video Card: ASUS GeForce 560 ti w/1GB

    Xp HD (from old E-machine): 640gb Has all my steam-related games installed. TOMB RAIDER WORKS on this!

    Wanted to upgrade to a newer OS and get away from the older e-machine drive and wipe it eventually.... so...

    I bought a new 250GB SSD drive with Windows 7-64 bit (I prefer win7 over the newer OS')
    Also picked up a 1 TB drive to move over my data from the 640gb drive...

    The idea is to run the 250 and the 1TB in tandom and have a Windows 7 machine until I really decide to upgrade everything else.

    Out of all the games that I have reinstalled from Steam, Tomb Raider (2013) and Dead Space (EA Origin) are the only ones that fail to actually run.

    There is no "error" reported. When I click Tomb Raider, option window shows, and when I click play: It goes to a black screen (if game options are set to full mode) or a "black window" if it is set to "windowed mode".

    I have verified the game cache multiple times. I have checked and compared the size of the files from the XP drive to the new TB drive.... I have tried lowest mode... highest mode... everything in between.

    I don't see any logs showing except one.. it does mention some failure.. . I'll paste it below



    Anyways... if I want to run Tomb Raider, I have to do the following: I have to shut down machine, move SATA cable from Win7 drive, put that cable on the XP drive, reboot, load Steam, and have to do the email verification code thing for steam-machine registry.

    Just to play 1 game.

    Not good.

    Can you guys help?

    Btw, this IS a Fresh install of Windows 7-64 bit... Tomb Raider's behavior is the same with old video drivers as it is with new video drivers. There is no change at all with that.

    Only thing that did change was under options when I select "triple buffer" it (the black screen) actually lasts a second or two longer... with a mouse flash.. but that's it.

    When I click Play on Steam, the launcher appears but when I click Play on the launcher, the screen turns black then the game crashes. I've tried reinstalling the game, verifying the game cache, putting the game at lowest settings, changing it to DX9, etc. and the same thing happens.

    Tomb Raider was playing fine until earlier this week. I was at the point of looking for the pilot in the downed plane. About 26% according to the save point. I click on the save and just as the screen comes up the game crashes.

    HP Envy 17

    hi
    i bought the game tomb raider some time back on steam. I havent been able to run the game ever. I have a intel xeon e5 - 2699 , with nvidia gtx 1080, 32gb ram. I have tried reinstalling the game and verifying the game cache. Nothing has worked. I would like to know what i need to do. I have the most recent direct x version installed and still it doesnt work. It doesnt even open the task in the task manager. Please help
