The original post in general shows how much guys want to just see girls in unrealistic outfits,...and this is a problem the game industry,- is trying to fix but asking for the outfit on the New Lara kind of places her back into the sex icon based on lack clothing - in doing so it undermines what CD is doing with Lara- making her relatable and not a hardly clothed pin up.

I just shake my head and wonder will our gamer society ever grow up. As gamers if we want people outside our circle to take us and our medium which we love seriously - we need to break out and stop treating every female character as a pin up and start treating them as dramatic and multi layered characters.
It's not a new Lara, it is the before-Lara, young and vulnerable before she got badass.

Alternative outfitting even if they are sexy does not imply sexism just stop this ridiculous nonsense. If you think putting her in shorts or whatever is sexism, than be consistent and you should then also say that CD is imposing sexism by making her looks (face, skin and sizes) 'perfect' based on the character model. Which is not the case.

And if you want outsiders to take your medium 'serious' - which you actually don't have to care about because it's your hobby or kind of entertainment and everybody should respect that in the first place - you should oppose yourself to the over the top gore and violence instead of an appealing female character.

If that's your opinion on this, you're saying that CD has been sexist for decades up to now. But I've never seen Lara in an over-the-top world shocking outfit up to now and that's definately not the case. CD is a very talented team giving us a great franchise and a fantastic game with or without a sexy Lara. But the fact that Lara has been a strong and sexy personality should not be neglected suddenly because some are crying out their sudden personal perception of this??

Jeez, if tomb raider was a male muscular guy that shot only female npc's I would think there was something to this sexism opinion but this ... it's not.

Lara has a far wider range of outfit choices than almost any protagonist out there from full military gear to the Japan evening dress. How many choices do guys like Chris Redfield or Nathan Drake have? The series should be taking full advantage of that range and not restricting it by we can't have this or that ideas. Lara is an attractive girl and she does have body confidence. Why should she play that down and restrict herself to generic protagonist outfit choices? She shouldn't.

I want to see Lara in a range of outfits including some more sexy ones and I will keep pushing for that. I don't think anyone who wants that should feel guilt tripped about it.

Classic: Europe=Skin Ok, Blood not ok. USA=Blood Ok, Skin not ok.

Actually, I think its funny that it appears that CD changed Lara's clothing to dual tops somewhere during the development from shirt+bra as shown in early promotional footage.

Clearly for somewhere in the world having your shirt torn to reveal a portion of an undergarment is not ok but revealing another shirt is ok.

    ROTFLMAO!

I actually don't a full closet of outfits for Lara in this game. I love the wear & tear it has on the clothing she wears through out the game, and they would have to make any outfits do the same almost for it to compete with how bad ass Lara looks by the end. The outfits would have to be something salvageable in my opinion, just so we have more to work with and give more reason to actually hunt any animals or other pieces of clothing off the scavengers.

I would prefer not to have any short shorts, and a sexier clothing line because I felt she should have covered up more because of how wet and cold she gets throughout the game.

    Thank you.
The only comment in this thread that makes any sort of sense.

I can understand people wanting more outfits. I don't particularly care. I am fine with what is offered rn and I was never one to really engage in the dress-up aspect too frequently. However, this game is doing so much in terms of delivering a female protagonist who is strong, independent, and able to rise to a challenge on her own without relying on hypersexualization to do that. I always disliked the outfits like bikinis and stuff because they clearly served no other purpose than to satisfy the aforementioned male gaze. How practical is it to run around in the freezing snow in a bikini? Not very.

Lara has always been considered a sex symbol. There is nothing wrong with having sex appeal. Nobody is saying there is. But there is a difference between a character having sex appeal and purposely oversexualizing a character for the sake of getting appeal. I'm glad this game focuses more on Lara as a PERSON and not an OBJECT of desire, and quite frankly the half naked outfits really wouldn't do much to help that.

Man my comments have brought out the stuff shirt intellectuals that are really trying hard to over think this and portrait themselves as above it all (and a tad arrogant along the way I might add). This is a game people! Lighten up!

First of all, not all of us are male.

Second, I don't see how this is overthinking anything.
You said you wanted more revealing outfits, some of us countered with the fact that revealing outfits don't serve a purpose in this game and go against everything this game was created to be and everything Lara is meant to be. It's pretty common sense. I think you're just being too dense because people want their favorite female characters to get some actual respect while all you really want is for her to satisfy your desires. You don't care about how much having strong women being represented in games might mean to other people. You just want to see boobs. I'm sure there are plenty of other games out there already that can give you your fix.

Folks, there need not be any knock-down, drag-outs over this. We all have our opinions.

Yes, I am for old school Lara: the tank top/crop top, short shorts kinda Lara, but also, we all know that she wore more than this in the subsequent TR's since the original so many years ago. In truth, her bust size was never a selling point to me. I, too, often wondered if she wore anti-gravity boots to counter her top heaviness.

I look on Lara's sexiness as a sort of self-confidence. A lot of women go out in the real-world dressed sexy not because they're flaunting as if they are "beautiful and they know it", but because it is an expression of self-confidence. (And yes, some will actually do it because they are looking for a confrontation with males...to "put them in their place" as it were. Seen it happen.) But as to the previous statement of self-confidence, you can see it in their eyes when they go out dressed as such. You can look and tell if they are the confident type, the over-compensating type, or the "beautiful and I know it" type....or the pseudo-predatory type. And believe me, I work in New Orleans where women dress sexy all the time (weather permitting). Sure, the eye candy might catch me, but I make it a point to try and get a look at their eyes, to get a quick glimpse of what their mentality is.

Now, I do believe in "the right gear for the right environment". Lara wearing only a bomber jacket with short shorts in TR2 during the ice levels might have been appealing, but it was also unrealistic. I get that. I did like how they tried to ramp up the realism in that area in later TR titles.

I've also known (as we all do) that Lara does not use her "sexiness" as a weapon itself. She's never shaken her bum at the enemy, and then shot them while they were momentarily befuddled or distracted. She's always, (always) used her brains, her skills, and her gear to prevail in any situation.

What many of us are asking for is an occasional (or better yet, optional) return to the look of the original Lara (sans unrealistic bust size). That is a part of the Lara we know and love. I think it's great how they handled Lara's character in this new game. I will say that I hope by the next game she doesn't just turn into "super confident" Lara over night (so to speak), but that her looks do start expressing some increase of confidence.

Why is it that because I purchased the Survival Edition on Steam that I don't get 4 outfits like everyone else!? Sure, I got 2... but am feeling kind of jealous of Xbox and PS users who got 4 for the same price.

According to Destructoid they get them as part of the Digitial purchase:

You're in luck if you've held out on buying Tomb Raider on the PlayStation 3, as there's a killer deal available for the new action-adventure title. For $59.99, you can buy the "Digital Edition" of Tomb Raider on the PlayStation Network, which comes with a full copy of Quantum Conundrum.

That's not all! You'll also get a three-pack bundle that consists of:
•Weapons Agent 47 uses in Hitman: Absolution
    •Shanty Town multiplayer map
Tomb Raider Outfit Pack (Hunter, Aviatrix, and Guerilla outfits)

Tomb Raider, plus Quantum Conundrum, plus three digital content packs, all for the same price as the retail version.

Let me expand my point, than... I'd like to see, at the very least, the 2 skins I should have recieved with my original pre-order appear as cheap dlc on Steam...

..AND I'd like as many more outfits as humanly possible for SP, CD! Please.

    Satisfied Gumi?

However, my original point still stands, a point I didn't feel needed an entirely fresh thread, that it's disappointing that I received only 1 extra skin while Xbox and PSN now receive 3, for the same price.

Guess you are feeling offended because you are probably a female that stereotypes men. Like he said it's a freakin' game, a virtual character and fictional entertainment. This is not real life or humans we're talking about. If you want to rant about this, go also rant in the music industry: every new video clip of modern female artist make them look like pornstars, do you listen to their music? Hip-hop clips are women shaking butts and if your lucky you can see the artist perform in between. Have you wrote those companies letters? This is getting as ridiculous as PETA who bothers about the AC4 hero that kill a whale in a game ... :O

    You're...you're kidding me right.
    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.
I'm not offended. I'm trying to prove a point. I'm someone who has a problem with people who think others opinions don't matter because Lara Croft is just a video game character. There are enough problems in the video game industry when it comes to women and how they are portrayed. This has nothing to do with my opinion or views on the entire male sex, because not all men think the same, just like not all women think the same. Everybody treats people differently. So trying to generalize and take what I say and exaggerate it just makes you look silly. I mean, PETA. Really? I hardly see how a forum comment is in anyway similar to the actions of PETA. Or is it because I simply don't agree with you?

And this is a video game forum. Not a hip-hop music forum. I don't like hip-hip's portrayal of women either. This just isn't the place to talk about that. So, again, you're point: I don't get it.

Lol no you 'won't' get it. I accept your opinion on this, but if it's your view then be consistent in it, no need to downscale it in this particular room. And it's certainly no problem if you don't agree. And yes PETA :-P My point is that your logic seems similar to theirs which is kind of silly and does not get you very far in defending it for this particular matter. Imo you'd rather care about real women being treated equally and with respect that's of far more importance then ranting and accusing someone for asking for oldschool alternative outfits of how Lara used to be where he fully has the right to ask for this on this forum.

Okay folks, I've had a chance to catch up with the posts in this thread and I have to say that I am very disappointed with where this thread quickly headed to soon after the OP made his opening post.

Let me first and foremost make it very clear that every forum member has absolutely a privilege to make a request as stated in the first post of this thread and that the forum staff strongly condemns any attempt to:

    - ridicule;
    - stifle;
    - attack

opinions made by forum members by other forum members.

Everyone here is entitled to their opinion and no member has the right to dictate what members can and cannot post here.

I've seen a LOT of inappropriate posts in this thread and I see that the disagreements here are causing a lot of friction and it is basically dividing people into "pro classic Lara" and an "anti classic Lara" camps. I would like to see this come to an end and would very much like everyone to post in a respectful manner from this point on.

We're leaving the thread closed until tomorrow, so that everyone can cool off a bit. When it's opened again, we will be monitoring this thread very closely. If we see more inappropriate posts we will be taking actions (infractions/bans/other) on those who continue to break our forum rules after this official warning aimed at everyone who has been involved in the argument with rude or otherwise inappropriate posts.
