    Exclamation Tomb Raider PC keep crashing during play with Radeon HD 4800

    Hi,

    Just bought Tomb Raider 2013 and installed it on my PC with SSD hard drive and Radeon HD 4800.
    I'm in trouble because I just keep constantly crashing while I'm playing (1 crash every 5 minutes). I have updated my graphic card drivers to Catalyst 13.1 (2012.1116.1515.27190) and I have tried to play with these low quality options:
    - Fullscreen: Checked
    - Exclusive Fullscreen: Unchecked
    - Display: Display 1 (ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series (1))
    - Resolution: 1920x1200
    - Refresh Rate: 60Hz (can't be modified)
    - V-Sync: Off
    - Monitor Aspect Ratio: Auto
    - Steroscopic 3D: Uncheked(can't be modified)
    - Texture Quality: Low
    - Texture Filter: Bilinear
    - Anti-Aliasing: Off
    - Shadows: Off
    - Shadow Resolution: Low
    - Level of Detail: Low
    - Post Processing: Unchecked
    - High Precision: Unchecked
    - Tessellation: Unchecked (can't be modified)
    - Hair Quality: Normal (can't be modified)
    - Reflections: Off
    - Depth of Field: Off
    - SSAO: Off

    Even with these low settings I crash every 5 minutes. No success in windowed mode either (each resolution).
    Never had issues playing Skyrim or Far Cry3 with max options anyway with my PC configuration.

    thats quite some infos you give here.
    i just think your card is not strong enough to handle the game. but did you install the newest drivers for your card and dx?
    also more ram would be advisable as well. get another 4gb ram in there.

    but i personally would get a new card. i have a 7870 and this card is really good and strong. also doenst cost a hell lot of money.

    Yes I have installed the latest drivers for my card and DX11.
    I could invest in more ram indeed although I can play the game with the highest options without have any special lags. (I have checked in windowed mode the used ram, it was 2go tops)
    I could also get a new card but I'm a gamer and I never had any special problems with the latest other games even with highest options (Hitman, Skyrim, FarCry3, Dishonored...) so I'm not convinced that will solve the fact I crash the game every 5 minutes

    Is there a tomb raider log file somewhere that would tell us more why it crashes?

    There's nothing wrong with your system, just keep your ingame vsync on all the time. I had the same problem back then. Hope it help.

    Thank you ezaulas for your replay, but vsync with Double or Triple buffer activated does not prevent the game to crash.
    However I have found a TombRaider.log file in My Documents and here is the content after the crash:



    I think the crash comes from: "cdc::PCDX11Pool::UpdateAllBuffers map failure. This will crash."

    Can somebody help ?

    Try updating your current drivers to 13.2 beta drivers for your Radeon HD 4800 that can help in fixing the issue.

    I have installed the last 13.2 beta drivers for my Radeon HD 4800. At first I thought it was OK yesterday but today I still got crashes with almost the same call stack:



    Do you know if there is a way to not get that crash by disabling something in the options or else?

    i just checked your dxdiag and noticed you got a dx11 crash for your 4800. i have a 4800 but mine is dx10.1 maximum. so i'm a bit confused.

    try updating dx from microsoft they should have an online directx setup look for directx runtime or directx end user

    Try verifying the steam game cache files. This may help with the issue if not try to uninstall and then reinstall the game.

    Indeed Radeon HD 4800 only supports DirectX 10.1. However if you update DirectX you'll get the last version which is dx11. And impossible to downgrade.
    But this is not a problem as DirectX manage correctly this situation and only displays dx10.1 features.

    I have the same problem and I have a 7900 series, i run the game with everything low and still crushing...

    It says on the log that D3D reports feature level 11 is _not_ supported. Feature level: a000
    Perhaps that was the problem, but there is no way to re-install it...

    It doesn't say on mine*D3D reports feature level 11 is _not_ supported* or *cdc::PCDX11Pool::UpdateAllBuffers map failure. This will crash.*
    I know this is going to take too long, try resetting you're computer, it maybe something's wrong with the directx11, it might solve to problem properly it won't, i recommend backing up you're data!
