HUMANITY FRONT - General Discussion Thread

    HUMANITY FRONT

    Humanity Front congress scene

The Humanity Front is a Purist (Anti Augmentation) Political Group founded by Bill Taggart.

In 2020, Antoine Thisdale, an oil-rig worker in Utah, loses his job as the demand for stronger and better augmented workers makes unaugmented workers obsolete. Thisdale, a completely healthy yet unaugmented man, sues for the right to amputate himself to have the same advantages his augmented competition would have.

In 2021, following the victorious Thisdale case, the U.S. Supreme Court issues a ruling declaring it constitutional for individuals to have the right to mechanically augment themselves. In direct opposition to the groundbreaking ruling's controversial implications to the notion of the ideal human, Bill Taggart forms the anti-augmentation group known as the Humanity Front. It is legally incorporated in Utah.

In 2022, a group of protesters gather in Brazil to protest the opening of a new (but the 359th in the world) L.I.M.B. clinic. In spite of this, the clinic proves to be a highly welcomed establishment for the South American country.

In 2027, the Humanity Front gathers in the city of Detroit, in front of the headquarters of Sarif Industries, to protest the company's augmentation program. During the demonstration, a riot ensues instigated by Yelena Fedorova as an agent provocateur.

Is that a copy-paste from the DX wiki or you made it?

Or did you do the wiki too?

I think the wiki team should check their articles because some got mistakes and they forget to say some things in some of their pages...

At least it's free for all to edit and I could add some other corporations' names in the corporations list like the Bell Tower associates, XNG shipping and Versalife.

There is also Transpro but I don't think it does something for the story so I won't add it...

I guess I'll just go through the site fast to correct mistakes or things they forgot to put in the wiki

Yes, Wiki often contains incorrect information. I believe the content here is correct though.
If not, we can change it at any time.

http://deusex.wikia.com/wiki/Adam_Jensen umm...Something doesn't work in his biography. He is born in 1993. He joins the police at 21. At 25, he volunteers as a SWAT member, in 2018, but they say he got hired by Sarif after he got fired in 2016

Having joined the Detroit Police Force at 21, and then volunteered for its SWAT division 4 years later, Jensen rose to team commander quickly. But his career ended suddenly two years ago when he refused to follow a questionable order. Later, in 2016, became a security specialist for Sarif Industries,
EDIT: I contacted the admin for this mistake

Sorry for the off-topic and I don't like to criticize, but I find constant spelling errors and grammatic errors and generally quite poor English on the DeusEx.Wikia site. Also some of the curators seem to know very little about Deus Ex. Sometimes they make guesses at the English words.

For example, look above, the word "establishment" has been spelled "astablishment".

Also "oil shore worker"... They either mean "oil industry" or "offshore" or perhaps "oil rig".

Also "oppositiion" surely should read "opposition"

Also make your mind up guys, is it "anti-augmentation" or "anti augmentation"? Some issue of consistency there.

Also there is some misuse of capital letters in the bracketed "anti-augmentation".

For publishing, you can't afford 5 mistakes in 3 paragraphs perhaps.

    Good thread though!

My fault entirely, I only skimmed through and my eyes didn't spot the OBVIOUS spelling errors.
Will correct them now. We can be better than Wiki.
Just spotted "protestors" too, so also corrected.

Well to be honest, some things you should be able to take for granted... Publishers being able to write, is one of them. Don't be too hard on yourself.

They meant "shale." They just copied the information from the Sariff website in a slapdash way (The Road to Here, 2020). It is the exact information. While we are at it, it is a real pity that while the initial info on the Sariff Industries page (the first years taken into account) was very well implemented, the further info sounds like something scrawled hastily, not much relevant (groundbreaking events put next to low scale, unimportant local info). If they want to advertize the site more in the months to come, before the release, they should polish it a bit.

    Edit: Nice pic!

I wonder if there is a connection between the image of a fetus on the brochures, and the original DXHR teaser trailer?

But I thought the foetus in the teaser trailer was augmented. Why have an augmented foetus on the front of an anti-augmentation brochure?

    CANNOT COMPUTE!

I hear you... but you just have to think outside the box. Perhaps they're using "shock tactics".

PS. Robbie the Robot rocks... but he isn't as cool as Bender.

To be honest i think that augmented baby was just to tease us and is not related to the story at all.

Since he was mechanically-augmented, there would be no way those parts would fit him as he grows up. I'm not sure, though. No way to be sure..

Whoa, about the first post: A limb clinic in Brazil, in 2022? I'll be 30 years old when it happens.

    I'll be totally augmented!!

I doubt prosthetics will be as good in 2022, the best on offer will probably be a peg leg or a hook

The brochure image could be a clever and subtle way to sell an attitude or an opinion.

I'm immediately turned off by this group due to their use of a fetus on the covers of their literature. It feels like a sort of fear tactic, and highly reminiscent of those bigoted Family Value organizations.

A human fetus represents the furtherance of our species. It speaks to our subconscious on a primal level. Without even using words they're alluding to the end of the human line. With that sort of fear-mongering there can be little or no intelligent debate.

I finally decided to peek in this thread and see what was going on.

Nice background info, but I have a question that may seem stupid regarding this part:

In 2020, Antoine Thisdale, an off-shore worker in Utah...
Now, unless Utah has a big enough lake, how can one be an offshore worker in Utah? To me (and admittedly, that may be because I live in landlocked Ohio), "offshore" has always meant in seas and oceans, neither of which Utah shares a border with.

OTOH, I have no problem with it if what is meant is that he's *from* Utah, but is an offshore worker. My understanding of oil rig personnel is that they usually spend several weeks to months at the rig, then go home for awhile. I can accept this as a decent explanation, but as it reads right now, it doesn't make sense.
