Meet Neil Harbisson, the world's first legally-recognised cyborg.
The story of Neil Harbisson is one for the ages. Born with a rare vision disorder called achromatopsia, this British-born, Barcelona resident saw the world only in black and white.

That was until 2003, when he collaborated with Adam Montandon, Associate Professor of Innovation at Denmark's Erhvervsakademiet Lillebælt institute. Together, they created a revolutionary device called the 'eyeborg'. Fixed on the wearer's head, the eyeborg converts light waves (colour) into sound waves. This effectively gives one the ability to hear colour.

He talks to Roshni Nair about the untapped potential of cybernetics and the need to make technology more intrinsic.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution's viral 'Sarif Industries' website discovered
by Richard Mitchell on Dec 3rd 2010, joystiq.com

What is an upcoming video game without a viral marketing website? Nothing, that's what. Enter the website for Sarif Industries, which appears to be nothing more than your average site for a cybernetic implant manufacturer (you know the type). After a few minutes of fooling around with the site, however, a hacking minigame begins, tasking users with avoiding security measures and retrieving data files.

The reward: Images and information about the cybernetic augmentations available in Deus Ex: Human Revolution. As marketing sites go, it's pretty nifty. If you're in the market for some new robotic limbs, check it out.

    ETHICS
We work not only to revolutionize the very nature of the human body, but to create better and more capable people that have the power to make the world a better place.

We believe in a free humanity, where people and companies work without regulations, where the progress of civilization is determined by unbridled human endeavor.

    We are Sarif Industries.

"We understand the deep responsibilities we have to not only our employees, our investors, and our consumers - but also our species as a whole. With the most advanced technologies being developed under our roof, we are committed to ensuring that everything we do is for the betterment of humanity. For the betterment of the world".

I hate that goddam woman computer voice... reminds me too much of Mass Effect... in fact... it sounds just like Mass Effect... I hope the game features something different.

I'm unimpressed with the hacking mini-game. Kinda stupid... and I have to do it at every locked door? OH god.. just kill me now....

Did you ever play the first MechWarrior when it came out in 1995? The game had a women's voice that sounds very similar to this one.

Oh yeah! And remember when you first landed? It said something like, "Zudaten blah blah, ambient temperature, etc, etc"

Man I soooooo want to play that game again!

"He's got a lock on me, he's got a lock on me!" = boom - you dead!

@ Zakka - I don't know how to cover my post with a spoiler block - so I'll have to leave it to someone else to tell you where this is on the Sarif website - far too lazy to PM you.

Classic. Some of the best years of my gaming life, right there.

Supposedly there is a new Mechwarrior in the works somewhere out there. After the long, dark age of Microsoft butchering the franchise, I'm holding out for a glorious return...although if it suffers the same fate Deus Ex appears to have endured, then it might be better off left for dead.

Sorry to hijack the thread. Just brought back great memories. Back on topic...

Why do you need a spoiler block for telling me how to find a hacking minigame?

Is it just me, or does the name "Sarif" reek of Invisible War

Well, part of the fun of paying that hacking game is finding it on the website. "Game" might not be the right word. Think of it more as a special discovery that you are rewarded with for dilligent exploration; something Adam might do in the "real" DX:HR.

I don't want to spoil it by telling others where it is. But I did PM you.

Nassif is vastly different from Sarif. But yes, they seem similar... also of note is the concentration on nieces.

Deus Ex had a daughter-father thing going a few times... Savage and Renton.

The link to the hacking module is not immediately availble - you must explore before it will appear
