I watched Hak se wui (Election).
Good film. I wish I could understand Cantonese, I felt like the subtitles were butchered. Johnnie To's work is really impressing me lately. I'll watch Hak se wui yi wo wai kwai (Triad Election) which I hear is the second part, good stuff I suppose.

I just watched Casino from like the eighth time. God, what a great movie. I honestly have no problem restarting it after I finish it, and I did.

    Despicable Me.

By-the-book CGI kiddy-comedy. The same garbage they put out every bloody year. True fact about flicks like these: they will never, ever be referred to as 'classics'.

Saw True Grit today and loved it. It's infinitely better than the original and Jeff Bridges is far better than John Wayne ever was. Also I didn't want to stab the girl in the eye this time around.

Awww i liked that girl , she reminds me of someone ... like always ...

But how's the story this time around ? because if it's still the same plot with just a bit more in depth character study ... well ...

By the way John Wayne has ALWAYS been playing as John Wayne ... except for about three movies with John Ford ...

That's because you haven't seen Bob Roberts yet.

    Black Swan.
    I really really liked it.

But I also like black olives, so you know.

What's wrong with black olives? they're the best kind of olives.

I am not saying black olives are bad. I fucking love them. But the thing is, many people hate olives, so what I am saying is that many people will hate Black Swan.

    Last movie I saw: Predators

I was fully prepared to be let down, as the Predators series (just like most everything popular in hollywood) had been raped and abused by the horrific hollywood overlords to make a buck.

but I was alas, not disappointed. This stuff isn't shakespear, but I'll be damned if it isn't fun to watch. Basically a bunch of "badasses" get dropped into a dense jungle hunting ground. You've got a criminal psychopath, a cold mercenary, a yakuza crime boss... and the cliches go on and on.

Like I said, it's not shakespear, but it's suprisingly fun and watchable. If you're into Predators, this probably won't disappoint you. My only complaint was that there seemed to be an obscure reference to the "Aliens" species from the Alien movies... but it's never really explored. We see a corpse with a giant hole in it's chest, clearly from a chestburster, and no real follow through. I understand that the Predators are the focus here, but why tease your audience like that?

other than that it's a decent B-rate monster shoot-em-up with cliches abound and explosions every 10 seconds.

I thought the hole in the chest was more like a certain former wrestlers death in the original film. I haven't seen Predators in a while though, was there anything more to it than the chest hole?

Natural Born Killers, probably my 2nd favorite of Oliver Stone's. It's a hard pick against JFK and BOTFOJ, but I think I'd have to re-watch 'em again to get a better idea.

Of course, no film he's ever made will top Platoon, in my eyes at least.

I love NBK, the director's cut is inspiring.
So many filmmakers I've met criticize shit out of it, but to me that's a perfect satire.

So i take it that you all wouldn't mind if Kane & Lynch III turns out to be a jungle survival game with Bigfoot hunting for biscuits ... Raw Drama ...

PS: now while i didn't hate Natural born killers i didn't liked it all that much either ...
It must be due to the involvement of Quentin , pretentious little virgin ...

By the guys you all know that the answer to JFK's truth lies in my mind since i'm the Only one left ...

Also because i invented the whole thing in the first place ...

In terms of war movies... I'd say my top 3 are probably

    Full Metal Jacket
    Platoon
    Apocalypse Now

When I think of God, I think big.

    Kurosawa, Bergman, Tarkovsky, Kubrick etc.

Tarantino is good, but he's far from being a God.

I think Fincher, Jeunet, Burton (early work from 80's - 90's) and Henry Selick.

I think Fincher is on his way to heaven's door.
But Burton? Really? Maybe together with Henry Selick as one God, then maybe...but still probably not.
