Thread: Skins Customization

Skins Customization

    Skins too similar?

i personaly feel that the skins for both vamps and humans do not vary enough from the base model, dont get me wrong i like tham BUT would i spend money to look only very slightly different?........... no.

i feel that the point in cosmetics is to add your own personal flair to your favorite class/classes and to be brutaly honest the current offerings do not set you far apart (there may be a few exeptions especialy in the human faction but im trying to generalise) .

i just feel your trying to go for numbers with skins rather than quality, and personaly i would prefer less skin options that vary more than a multitude of similar skins.

does anyone agree or have a compeling counter argument

I partially agree, the vampire skins mostly don't seem to vary too much at the moment.

I think they are to add many more skins though, as I've seen some testers playing a couple of days ago with skins not actually in the shop and pretty different from everything is available now.

As I am unsure about the exchange rate for the in-game currency, I also partly agree. I would like to see a little more variation in the skins. However as we cant use that aspect yet anyway, It makes sense that there is limited choices.

Since we are in the early alpha I don't see a need for it right now. I would imagine that, as the game ages & progresses, we shall see more varying customization options.

its mearly a sugestion for the future i want this game to flourish and from playing many online games i generaly find that larger changes promte more investment from the player whereas re-colours or skins that do not deviate enough from the original do not sell as well

I just see this as something implied for future integration while gameplay and balancing are key concerns. Meaning, I believe more variation is expected.

I am literally in the process of revising some of the skin colors to make them stand out more from each other. Keep in mind that we're trying to avoid going with extreme variations in things so that everything still feels like it fits in this world and that we're not venturing into the cliche fantasy realms of Dark Elf Armor of GlowySpikeShoulderpadville. We're not afraid to make revisions, though, so if a skin isn't popular with people once things get going I need to know why so we can learn from it.

Thats exelent news and dont worry im not on about skins that detract from the nosgothian feel or are outlandish but more in the vein of a reaver skin with blades mounted on gauntlets or a sentianal wrapped in bandages as his vanity will not allow him to show his real form, that sort of thing realy

What about some variations in their heads as well? Ideally we could have a selection of heads to put on each body, but if that's not possible, perhaps some slight variation in their faces or give some of the vampires hair. Or maybe they don't all have the same face paint/tattoos.

EDIT: Maybe a goatee for one of the Turelim?

I was just thinking, since the Dumahim were supposed to be weapon specialists according to Daniel Cabuco and they probably won't be able to have alternate animations added, would their existing attack animations work if they were holding a Katar type weapon or some type of wrist weapon?

    Wrist spike: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_LCNEuTtJy2...auntlet+l1.jpg

    Unlikely, but looks cool: http://www.pagan-gerbil.net/images/b...58/image_3.png

Looking at the type of motion someone would make using those types of weapon, it seems very similar to the attacks that the Dumahim currently have. Maybe you could get away with using the same animations.

I agree. I think that by having more skin variations would give the players a certain sense of ownership over their humans and vamps. Although of course the designs should always fit in with the atmosphere of the setting, as Eric says, I do think that the appearances would vary more than they do already - although more so with the vamps than with the humans.

Has any got any ideas on how to maybe make the human skins more diverse? Maybe different armor designs?

i love the sound of that a bit of swap and switch. alot like warframe with there replacable heads all the head skins cost real money. Im certain if i could pick my favorite outfit AND THEN pick up an awesome head that i love id be all over that like butter on toast

I think skins need more different colours... I don't mean any bright colours as i know Legacy Of Kain games have always been very dark and overwhelming in it's own way... What i mean is that skins are good but they are almost the same in coulours. Designers should consider colours like black, red, dark green (for humans), dark purple. For example if one skin has its design but has almost the same colour as other skin they basically dont stand out.

What about some female vampires? Or female alternates of humans?

You'll see lots of bright colors if you scroll down to "Membership and Forces" and "Troops" on this page:

    Also here for the vampires:

I'd really like to see this as well.

The biggest concern for including weapons would be the change in hitboxes, or discrepancy between animation and hitboxes if it doesn't change. The wrist weapons wouldn't have as much of an issue with this, but I feel like the Dumahim deserve more as 'weapons specialists'. While it would take a lot of work, adding new animations to match weapons would be incredible. I could see pounce's tearing animation being replaced by slowly slitting with a sword, or pushing and pulling a spear through the pinned opponent (these options keeping the damage-over-time mechanic intact).

I want a more personalize character

I wish we could add upgrade to guns and upgrade to our champions. So it will really match our gameplay.

    Some Exemple.

    Armor for Humans
    Biological Upgrade for Vampire

    More Speed / Less Damage
    Life Leach / Less Defense
    Attack Speed / Lower Healt
More Armor / Less Attack Speed
    Spell Cooldown / Less damage

    Same goes for guns

Critical Hit chance / Lower attack Speed
More Fire rate / Less Reload Speed

I would like my champion to be more unique then the standard one

You get weapons that do things like this by leveling a class to 10, 15, etc. Piling on stat changes from several items can get messy from a balance standpoint.

I want a more personalized character too...But stat changes don't personalize anything. Give me more skin customization, colors and such, maybe a selection of a few different Execution animations per class to choose my favorite.

Agreed, the problems with skins and games like this, are that they constantly have you running into yourself. Granted that it's possible with the other games as well, but at least when you get to design your own look, it makes things more personal. Being able to recognize someone by sight is a great thing, but being having multiple copies of one exact look, just kind of makes it too generic feeling.

I'd be fine with just more diverse looking skins at the very least.

    Skins Customization

first of all , i'm not native english speaker so sorry for possible mistakes

here's my 2 cents how to improve character Customization in Nosgoth
Atm Appearance customization is Skin based and to be honest is far better then messy TF2 style custom , each skin tells his own story and introduce some lore trivia . But what if everyone select the same skin ? You lose the feel of uniqueness .

    here's the solution. - Skin Customization .
how it works ? here's an example
You buy "Brimstone Vest" skin for Alchemist

This unlocks the advanced adjustment options for this particular skin , now you can choose and buy different belts , gloves , ornaments , color schemes etc , everything of course will fits the art style of particular skin, So your "Brimstone Vest" alchemist will be different from your friend's "Brimstone Vest" alchemist but and everyone will still know that you are using "Brimstone Vest" skin

    win - win situation

    feel free to comment
