Game freezes after minutes or even seconds

Sometimes i can play a few minutes, then the game freezes, another time the freeze occurs after a few seconds.

I updatet my graphic cards driver, the chipset driver for the motherboard, installed new drivers for the soundcard but nothing seems to work. I tried to reduce the resolution and details to the minimum, but the game still freezes.

    AMD Phenom II X4 965
    Windows 7 - 64
    6 GB RAM
    Asus M4A78 Pro Mainboard
    Ati Radeon 5850

I use catalyst 10.3 i also tried 10.2 and older ones 9.something. The same problem with every driver.

Graphic settings i tried several from highest to lowest. Every time the freezes occur.

I'm also experiencing these random freezes. I've started playing the game today and it has frozen for me 3 times in just 1 day of around 4 hours of playing...

    System:
Intel i5 - 750 (stock clocks with turbo mode enabled)
    GTX 275 (stock clocks - driver 197.13)
    4GB DDR3
    Windows 7 64bit

Jesus... I check this post eveyday and continue to see more people having the same issue and the damn "tech support" keeps saying its our hardware doing it. You know damn well we all bought a broken game and we still have yet to see a patch to fix this. Untill they fix this game I'm sure as hell am not going to buy anymore eidos games.

I'm also having the same issues, I can play for a few minutes then the game will lock up and I have to open up task manager to close it. I have noticed I can seem to play longer if I stay out of combat, but if I start a mission where a lot of stuff starts going boom it crashes sooner than later.

    My system specs are:
    - Windows 7 64-bit
    - AMD X2 6000+, 3.0GHz
    - 4 Gigs DDR2
    - Geforce 8800 GT 512mb DDR3
    - Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro Series
    - MSI k9ag neo2-digital
    - 32" HD TV for monitor

I can hear the usual questions already so I'll answer them now...
    - All drivers are up to date
    - I'm running on a fresh install on windows 7, so driver clean up is not an issue
    - Over Heating? No, I'm using Riva Tuner to monitor my temps and to make my fans cool more aggressively. Under load it goes into the 60s, idle its 45C
    - I've tried playing with all the settings, playing on all low setting and yes I've disabled stuff like the bokeh filter and gpu water sim.
    - I've also tried running it off of a fresh install of windows 7 32-bit

I don´t believe my hardware is the problem. I can play games like Mass Effect 2, Bad Company 2, Batman AA, Bioshock 2, Resident Evil 5, Settlers 7, Aliens vs Predator, Dirt 2, Assassins Creed 2, Metro 2033 without crashes and freezes.

It is just like it was with The Saboteur. Random graphic freezes (only with ati) until the patch came out. After the patch not a single freeze.

    pc games

this will be the cause if PC gaming ever dies...I always have different problems with games because there are so many different graphics cards/motherboards/etc. etc.

I should have bought this on PS3, but I wanted modding capabilities...that'll teach me.

I came here looking for a solution but only found more problems...

    I'm having similar issues:

5+ times: game window went black. Switching FS/windowed didn't help. The game is still responsive; I can move back and forth between the game and the menu, or the game and the PDA, but there are no visuals

1 time: Game froze up the entire computer.

    I have:
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
    Core i7 920 @ 2.67GHz
    6 GB RAM
    2 x EVGA GTX 280 in SLI
    Latest DX drivers
195.62 ( the latest three drivers all cause Windows to get a boot-time BSOD >_< )

Frankly I don't care who's at fault: Microsoft, for their crappy system and DirectX; nVidia, for their broke-ass drivers; or Eidos for releasing a game that looks gorgeous but can't keep running for more than 10 minutes at a time. Somebody needs to come up with a solution! I'm perfectly happy saying "screw it" to big-name titles and just buying indie games from Steam from now on, because THEY ALL WORK!

What I don't get is that the game ran beautifully a few nights ago when I first played it. I played for like 5 straight hours without a hitch, and the game looked amazing. I have a pretty modern gaming laptop with a Nvidia GTX 260 card. I didn't have slowdown, hiccups, freezing, anything. I was playing the game with settings variously set to medium - high.

Now I turn it on today, load a save, and the game freezes after about 30 seconds of moving. WIthout fail. I restarted it 5 times, tried different settings, nothing. My save is early, after the casino mission. I start outside a shack by the ocean and a guy starts talking about the various gangs. I've gone on from this area and cleared at least 10 spots like villages and military bases, but I haven't gotten to the next story area yet.

So I load a game, and if I sit there without moving it's fine. But if I start walking around, the game will abruptly freeze (and the guy telling me about the gangs still continues to talk, so the sound keeps going). But I have to go to the task manager and it says the game isn't responding.

FINALLY I uninstalled the game, deleted everything, including my saves. Did a fresh install. NOW, since I have to start a new game, I try to do that, and it freezes on the loading screen! I can't even play now, and 3 nights ago I PLAYED FOR HOURS!!!

I really don't get this one. I'm playing on Windows 7 and my specs are pretty consistent, not to mention the fact that I'm rocking Batman AA, Call of Duty, and other big games on it. I have NO idea what could make a game work great, and then quit working overnight.

Eidos sold everyone a broken game and now we got sh** to show for it. Only one tech was every on the forums and he kept blaming our hardware and now he's MIA from the forums. Its been nearly 2 weeks now since the release and still not a fix. Words can't describe how pissed I am about this it was a excellant game from what I've played what a shame.

I'm freezing after about 5-30 minutes, temps are all fine for gpu and cpu.
How many of us are using Logitech keyboards?
I've been noticing that {with mine} my keyboard is having trouble loading the drivers. Sometimes I have to unplug and replug to get my keyboard working. I had an issue a few years ago with Logi{mouse} drivers screwing up a game. This problem started after installing JC2 but the demo worked fine so can't be sure. I just have a feeling there's an issue between the game and lgps 304b.exe.

    My specs.
    intel e8600
    4 gigs corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4
    2-WD300gig Raptors raid0
    BFG295 GTX-197.25 beta drivers
    XI fatality
    Win7 32bit

    same problem here.
    configs:GTX295
    windows7 64bits integral
    6G ram
driver 197.13 or 197.25 (same results)
    corei7

unable to play with watter effects ON.
if I enable watter effects:crash,or blue screen of the death or parasites on screen.

after the first install of the game NO problem.everything was fine even with high settings.
now impossible to play with water effects.tha games crashes after 5 minutes or less.windows says there is a problem with the driver.
if I unable watter effect the game works fine.

help please!!I what's the problem with watter effects..

Two weeks since release, no patch, no help, no solution for me.

Thank you Eidos, i won´t buy a game from you ever again. Thanks for the burned money.

It is rather odd, some of the sytems I've seen in this thread virtually match mine, but in 280 hours of game play I've not experienced any freezing/crashing, I can tell you this game is a little sensitive to overclocking the video ram my stock clock is 1200MHZ, I pushed it to 1280MHZ and the game began to stutter, I dropped it back to 1275MHZ and it's been running smoothly ever since.

Just a suggestion, one thing that seems to get overlooked quite often is the sound card, I know some games become really unstable with accelerated 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound, though this does not happen with JC2 on my system.

    Core 2 Duo T9300 2.5GHz
    3GB RAM
    ATI Radeon HD 3650 Mobility - 512MB
    Vista Home Premium 64-bit

Happens to me too. The display driver stops responding.

Back the quality settings down, it could be the game is attempted to use more video memory than is available, it could also be overheating so check temperatures.

    Gidday folks,

I believe it was the update that did it. Could be coincidental, but mine ran fine on first install, only had the freezing issue after the update patch was applied. The demo did exactly the same thing. Ran fine until it was patched. Hopefully this issue will be resolved shortly.

All drivers are up to date, p4 2800 (yes, it will run on a single core cpu, but not very smoothly) HD2600 XT 512 2gig sys memory.

    Cheers.

Also if it helps the devs, 2 of the 3 benchmarks run right through. The one that locks up is the city one and always locks up at almost the same place on the flyunder through the overhead bridge down the city street. The sound goes a little choppy just prior to this happening.

In gaming, it will randomly lock, regardless of what you're doing.

    Cheers.
