What is the most "Epic" sinking of a ship that you have seen?

Thumbs Up What is the most "Epic" sinking of a ship that you have seen?

I was in a Japanese sub, and I had just finished sinking a BB, when my teammate had just taken out a Cruiser, but the thing is, the Cruiser was still moving forward at 30 or so knots as the bow sank underwater!!!

The sinking cruiser was moving forward so fast that bow just barely missed my sub as I struggled to get out of the way.

So, I quickly go up to the surface with my sub, and I look in amazement as the entire back-half of the ship is on fire, sticking straight out vertically in the air, propellers still moving; it stayed like that for a good 10 seconds.

The ship slowly began to slide down, and just before the stern disappeared, a large explosion erupted from the ship.

    KABOOOM!!!

I don't know why it exploded, but it was quite Epic.

    Hunting an enemies carrier group.

I think it was the yorktown that was left, he was running it all over the south of the map trying to get clear.

I had a badly damaged Tone and a sub nearby. As i got in range, i saw 3 avengers coming up so i launched all my torpedoes at the carrier and carried on firing as normal.

As my sub was getting into position on the other side of the carrier the Tone was sunk. I was all prepared to fire, looking through the periscope view when i saw 2 torps hit the front of the carrier. As it exploded, the whole ship listed to one side and then rocked the other way settling at an angle with smoke pouring out of the side. Cool enough.

My teammate had some dive bombers and torpedo bombers with a fighter escort on the way too, as the dive bombers began their dive, the torpedo bombers dropped their torps with fighters periodically swooping and chasing each other over the burning, partly sunk carrier. It looked so cool!

The carrier sustained more damage and began to roll over even more, now on fire and sinking. As the carrier sunk, burning planes and bits of wing were falling out of the sky around it.

    Talk about cinematic

i once only attacked the bow area of a carrier, full bombardment. it sunk bow first and the stern raised WAY into the air before it went down.

Wow..! What's the engine used in this game? I'm loving this game but every day I'm learning more details and I'm loving it more

I have had a few "battlestation moments".

After sinking a carrier I witnessed a plane launch just as the front deck sunk under the waves. It lifted off exactly at the waterline!!

I like to use my zeros to strafe the carrier deck as planes take off, I did this and caused a wildcat drive off the left side of the deck with engine on fire!

I love watching the BB's duel from high in the air, you can see the shots arching very high.

I was also in a sub vs destroyer duel. The destroyer lined up behind me and I turned to shoot my rear torps at him. Now if you don't know, the torps take a few seconds to get to surface depth. One, just managed to hit the destroyer in the screws. All the while depth charges are going off and i am maneuvering a lot to avoid; Like “Das Boot” or something.

And the final heroic moment was a destroyer rush to the American docks. My goal was to pop the last millimeter of hp off the dock. At the same time I am getting pounded by a BB. Zig zagging and quick repair management was enough to get me in range to take the final shot. As you may know BB's are insane against destroyers if they score a hit. It was very nerve racking for all involved. That time I was lucky, but I have made the destroyer rush and failed with a few hundred meters to go.

i've seen that before. i will be shelling a carrier and planes try to take off. direct hits on the flight deck, planes exploding and flying off the deck into the water in mid takeoff! epic!

we were playing and the last thing to destroy to win was the US ACC so we sunk it and the end of game thing came up and show the ACC sinking with probobly 20 torps still coming at it and 2 units of dive bombers coming down on it with 4 other units of planes obove all still straking the DD that was next to the ACC it was pretty tight

and speaking of strafes as planes take off i once got a dd right next tho the ACC's and my aa took out every plane on both ACC's as or before they took off

Haven't had really epic sinkings, but it is fun dodging the massive BB hulks as they sink when you are a sub.

Not quite an Epic "sinking", but I had a Kongo randomly do a 360° roll over, with no damage or other ill effects.

I once was flying so low to the sea that a sinking BB was rolling over and the bridge took me out

I was in my BB going after a Kongo, and out to my port was this lone enemy DD. Needless to say, I raked his hull with pretty much everything I had. And this ship just lit up around the second volley, his bridge exploded, fuel tanks ignited and munition stores all went off in succession, then she just rolled over and went to the bottom. Went on to the Kongo, firing while maneuvering around her bow to her port side, firing all the while. Ended up being sunk, and the Kongo got away and repaired. Almost got her though.

  15. I was in charge of a carrier. I had moved south behind the island and was sitting still. An enemy DD is bearing down on me. I launched several torpedo bombers at him while moving my carrier in between the west island and the refuelling ship. I was hopping to get some island support against the DD. He was too quick however and sailed between me and the island. As my torpedo planes didn't have enough time to get airbore, turn, and try to launch at his stern, I opened up with AA guns. These did quite a bit of damage suprisingly and I think a screw or 2 hit home. Anyway, I lost, but as my stern was sinking and taking on water, my last torpedo plane came out of the hold, taxied, and lifted off right before the bow of the ship submerged. It was a very cool site to see and made my destruction just a tad more enjoyable.

    Sub sinking

was spectating a game when the japanese sub fire a point blank spread from right in front of the carrier in the shallow waters by the island. They barely missed, all four traveling parallel to the carrier, looking like yards away. So I scream to the carrier "Ram em", So the two ships are bow to bow, and the sub throws it into reverse. So there both literally like 30 yards apart, sub going backwards, Carrier bearing down. Looks like something out of Keystone cops, so sub backs into on of the smaller islands, gets stuck, and Carrier hits it dead on, takes about 15% damage and the sub sank (was out full health or close I think)

I haven't seen many epics sinking's but I made a Cruiser sandwich with my two Kongo's last night.. with both BB's literally scrapping either side of the cruiser while all guns firing, it looked pretty awesome.

    Wow, thats a great one

Anyone managed to get a full capsize before sinking? I would think it should be possible.

Probably my most memorable one so far was having destroyed the Allied shipyards, their carriers were steaming up the right side of the map just to the East of the island with a single CA escort & a sub lurking.
I went straight for the CA with my ~1/2 damaged CA that had just taken out the shipyards & with my colleagues BBs, finished off the rest of the Allied fleet, while I set my fresh CA on an intercept course intending to cross the T.
I crippled his CA before being sunk but switched over to the other ship just in time to magistically run south between the two CVs I popped one, then turned to the other but then noticed that the still floating CA & desperation Torp bombing runs had done substantial damage, switched to Torps & unleashed the full broadside at near point-blank and then followed up with another before I was finished off.

The CV was ablaze aft and sinking by the bow but some quick work by her crew arrested the flooding in time.
My shipyard had been destroyed by dive bombers so in spectator mode I was able to watch my teams slowly closing BBs and incoming airstrikes finish off first the CA and then the CV, which ablaze slipped bow first below the waves.

    Awesome pic!

Everytime I look at it, I get chills up and down my back.

The only thing that could make it better is something to make your HUD disappear so you could take better screens. Many games have this,so its possible.

    sinking carrier

i was fighting recently and managed to get a bb in range of the carrier and shot at least a squardon just by shells hittting the front while the palnes tried to take off and when it sank it nose dived into the sea

I remember when my teamates and I damaged the jap CV in the Philipines early on and tillted forward and every plane that tried to take off crashed into the sea .

I also remember when Me and this other friend of mine where in the solomons map...I was in two subs and he had 2 BBs... We were up against the same match. All of the subs and BBs got together in one big heap (Really close to eachother). When all of our units managed to torp and shoot a Renown class, it rolled under the water and did a 360 barrel roll.

This is a picture of a sub chalange I did when a BB rolled my sub to its side.(It doesnt look that close but it is, the tower hit me).

And since I posted a Pic I might as well post this:

That pic is of a hangar in the water off the Islands of Solomon (Near the Japonese Airfield). It has been their for quite some time but I don't know if a patch has patched that.

Wow, This game does a better job at sinking than Silent hunter 3. Has anyone tried ramming a small boat (such as a jap fishing trawler-dunno if they have small merchant vessels like that in this game) and knocking the boat over so it sinks? Or sinking something in shallow water (midway is too deep) so just as it goes verticle the bow or stern slams into the sand?

It's too bad this game didn't have torpedo depth adjustment and magnetic detonator option like SH3, you could sink a BB with a single well placed torpedo, with a mag detonator and setting the depth a meter under the keel. That would make a good pic, seeing it split in 2.
