At the end of April, Square Enix concluded its acquisition of Eidos Interactive, a British publishing house that had fallen on hard economic times despite owning a number of top gaming properties. As part of the £84.3 million ($136 million) deal, Eidos was folded into the Square Enix Group, which also includes Square Enix's global game development-publishing arm as well as 2005 acquisition Taito.

Lara Croft takes one more step toward a Kingdom Hearts cameo.

Today, Square Enix revealed one more step in integrating Eidos into its global organization with the formation of Square Enix Europe (a moniker still to be finalized). Current Eidos CEO Phil Rogers will head up Square Enix Europe, and John Yamamoto will continue to lead Square Enix's North American arm.

As detailed in a statement provided to UK-based gaming site CVG, the new publishing label will combine Square Enix and Eidos' European publishing labels. Eidos' North American operations have also been impacted by this move, with the publisher saying that all publishing duties have been transferred to Square Enix in the region.

As a result of the move, Square Enix will be retiring the Eidos publishing label, though the venerable name will live on through the company's various development outfits. Square Enix also confirmed that the restructuring will result in an unspecified number of layoffs as redundant positions are consolidated in both Europe and North America.

damn this *** :(

Now my corrected theory of what might happen:

Square Enix makes a new LoK RPG very flashy and Kain with pointy hair like this:

Square Enix gives Crystal Dynamics the freedom to create a LoK 6 worthy of the rest of the series.

Square Enix doesn't think about LoK and we have to wait another 6 years for a new one...

actually i kinda like that drawing ^^

and why is it such a bad idea with a lok cameo in kingdom hearts anyway? it would bring much needed publisity to the series...

There's not quite as much impaling things in Kingdom Hearts. If Kain appeared, he'd be recast as a harmless something or other. Iyt would bring publicity, but not the good kind.

I wonder if this means the forums are going away, or if we'll all be merged into Square Enix's forums?

HAHAHAHAHAHA! That picture was hilarious, but it's made even funnier by the fact that whoever drew that was serious. I really don't understand the appeal of Kingdom Hearts, that is, the concept. I have no idea if the gameplay is any good because the concept is just so horribly not interesting and whorish sounding really.
Unfortunetly, I haven't been that excited with Square for quite a while. Maybe it started with the merger with Enix, though I admit that I haven't played anything since then (except I do own Final Fantasy Chronicles, because I wanted Chrono Trigger, and Final Fantasy IV is cool too, but these are of course rereleases of games that were from Super Nintendo). In truth, I think that this really is the nail in the coffin to our hopes of new Legacy of Kain (not that I've had any hope in a new one coming out for quite a while. I mean, come on. Defiance came out HOW MANY years ago?).
