View Full Version : Cosplaying as Raziel

Raziel'sRevenge

My girlfriend is hugely into this cosplaying thing and I've never tried it out before. I figure it might be fun and perhaps is a new thing we can share. I was supposed to go to Genericon with her last year but, well, the date got mixed up and I had to work :( Anyways this time I'm going and I figure I may as well go as someone I know and love!

Now obviously I want to do this well, after all, Raz deserves it. I've got a basic list of items here but I could use your help seeing as I've never done this before.

For the head:
Hair dye (my hair is already proper length/style)
Blue face paint
White contacts (Raz doesn't have any pupils after all)
Black face paint (for his missing jaw)
White face paint (fangs)
About a beach towel's worth of brown cloth (suggestions here please!! What material and how should I go about painting the clan symbols?) which I will wrap around jaw. The black paint is so I can pretend to eat people when I pull down the shawl

For the body:
Form fitting blue shirt and pants
Blue fabric (I can easily make the proper gloves out of it, I'm quite good with a sewing machine and with plain old needle and thread)
Blue fabric for wings (again, suggestions for type?)
Wire for structure of wings (suggestions on how thick it'll need to be?)
Bandages for arms (all I'll have to do is dirty them up some)

For the feet:
??? I could really use some help here

For the Reaver:
I'm planning on doing the spectral blade not the physical one

Solid plastic rod roughly 3 feet long for center of blade plus a handle (I can make that pretty easily)
Here's the tricky part: The rest lol I'm thinking of a LOT of green plastic wire wrapped into larger cords which will then spiral around my central rod and my arm

Now how on earth am I going to get the reaver to stay together?? Some connector rods will undoubtedly be needed to join it to the central rod on the extended part, and I'm thinking of having a large "O" shaped ring where I grab on as another support joint, along with one at my shoulder where the reaver will end. As I progress in this I'll post some pictures.

Lastly, I could use some good pictures of Raziel from different angles/distances/stances and views of the reaver itself, both attached to Raziel and just of his arm.

PM's are more than welcome and I'll give an email address to any who'd like it, or IMing wil work too, though I'm not on often. Heck if I grow to trust you I might just give you my cell number (but I really wouldn't get your hopes up lol).

THANK YOU!!!!! :D

Have no fear, I have about 6 months to work on this baby and if it's anything less than perfection I won't show it to anyone, as I said earlier, Raziel simply deserves the best. As for the second part, I assure you I'm all man (though I've been known to wear a dress from time to time ).

Hmm, for some reason it won't show me the picture. Anyways I plan on doing this 100% from scratch, no masks or premade hands/feet. The biggest obsticle I'm going to face will be the reaver itself. I don't want to do the actual blade, I plan on making the swirling reaver attached to Raziel's arm. If I have time I want to see if I can rig up a small motor to actually make it continuously spin too :D

The only people who could really accuratly cosplay as Raziel would be anorexic girls :D.
To be more serious though, if I were to cosplay as Raziel, I'd not do the Soul Reaver part myself. I think he looks plenty cool enough without it, so while I know you want to do it, I'd say that if it proves to be too much trouble, that it really wouldn't be that big of a deal if you didn't have it.
Maybe you should mess around with some gloves to give yourself that three finger look too. You'd probably also need blue makeup on your face. I went to a convention once and saw a guy that was a really good Kratos from God of War. I don't know how he could keep the make up good for so long though. I'd end up itching so much that I know that within an hour the make up would look horrid.
Heh, if I ever cosplayed, the most appealing ideas to me would be a Psi Cop from Babylon 5, Number Six from The Prisoner (with another person as Number Two), or the Mekuri Master from that great flash game (wonder how many of you know what I'm talking about).

The soul reaver is going to be the last part I make for exactly that reason. Raziel doesn't have to have it, he just looks cooler with it, but if I do a really bad job on it then the whole costume will look worse so that can wait for the moment. I have my list made up of things I need and some good pictures of him from the front, side, and back so now all I have to do is start buying materials and go from there. I figure some parts should be pretty easy (legs, clothe covering mouth, wings) so I'll get them out of the way now and leave the more difficult parts for later. Suggestions are still very much welcome though!!!!
