We're All Fans Here! Deus Ex Trivia Quiz Fun

So, how much of a Deus Ex fan are you?

This is a fun quiz that expands as we go along.
The first person to answer the current question correctly, gets to think up the next one...and so on.

Questions can be general knowledge, trivia or an image puzzle from DX, DX:IW or DX3.
If you choose to submit an image - feel free to rotate it or zoom right up, in order to make it extra tricky! :naughty:

RULES:
To avoid confusion, only one question at a time.
The winner should submit a new question immediately PLEASE (we need to be kept entertained :p ).
If someone answers the question correctly but isn't around long enough to ask a new question, then anyone else can ask instead.
At their discretion, the (current) questioner can submit an extra clue if the original question proves too difficult to solve.

Here are some examples:

Q: Where will you find this item?

http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc159/eternaltreasure/barretbackclean-1.jpg

A: (text) DX3 / Barrett's belt pack...

A: (image)
http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc159/eternaltreasure/barretbackclean-2.jpg

OR

Q: In DX1, a register in the hotel at the Hell's Kitchen location has a name of a character from a comic book. What is the comic and who is the character?
A: "Sandman" / Hyppolita Hall.

**

Okay, I think that's the introduction done with, good luck and enjoy! :thumb:

I'll start the quiz off with something that shouldn't be too difficult for the fans:

Q: Can you determine the exact location of this image?

UNATCO -_-'

Anyway.
Here's my slightly harder to answer question (if I have have answered the q correctly of course).

Back in 2001, when you tried to visit the DX website, you were shown a file error. Apparently, the Deus Ex website was under government surveillance. What was the error message?

Lady_Of_The_Vine
27th Mar 2009, 19:41
Yes, it is correct... :D

For the benefit of new fans here is the full image:

You guys get the idea now.... :)

Sorry gamer0004, but I have to advise you to replace your question with one that doesn't break MyImmortal's rules:

Questions can be general knowledge, trivia or an image puzzle from DX, DX:IW or DX3.

Your question is asking something about some random website. How is that a question about any of the Deus Ex universe?

SageSavage
28th Mar 2009, 16:23
Well, he asks for the (presumably fake) server-message of the the official DX-website back in the days.

Back in 2001, when you tried to visit the DX website, you were shown a file error. Apparently, the Deus Ex website was under government surveillance. What was the error message?

I don't know the answer though.

crimethinker, I guess the question is a valid one (trivia).
However, as fox says, its an old website back in a distant time and I guess we would only know the answer if we were members of that website AND had a good memory. :D
I don't know if an extra clue would be much help either. :hmm:
Perhaps we can suggest that gamerooo4 submits a different question? :)

I demand an answer first.

^
You can't demand, but you may request. ;)

I'm sure we'll get the answer... umm, as soon as he's back online. :hmm:

I think I'll have to tweak the rules somewhat. If there isn't a live question within 24 hours of the previous one being answered, another person can randomly ask a new question.
Think this should work... the waiting is unbearable! :(

EDIT:
Okay, I've updated the rules.
As its been over 24 hours now, someone can ask a new question. First come-first served basis.

The answer to my question can actually be found by google:

File Error 523: Monitored Access. This site has been restricted. Your IP and host information have been documented and your ISP has been notified. Any further attempt to access this site will be monitored and logged.

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=15898

Or here:

http://pc.ign.com/articles/070/070630p1.html

EDIT: answer: Wade Walker, clone from Walton Simons?

EDIT #2: Or perhaps Nick Pausback, clone of Bob Page?

What exactly do you mean with "third clone"? Because there are 4 tubes, and 2 of them are empty (one without anything in it at all, and one with a hologram of Alex D). A third clone in the map?
According to google, Alex D is the third clone. But like I said, he is not actually there.

Yep! Spot on. Here's the passage from the book.

But he saw that these fears were fancies, for he found himself in the
presence of the great fact of the fear of death, with its coarse and pitiless
common sense. He felt like a man who had dreamed all night of falling over
precipes, and had woke up on the morning when he was to be hanged.
For as soon as he had seen the sunlight run down the channel of his foe's
foreshortened blade, and as soon as he had felt the two tongues of steel touch,
vibrating like two living things, he knew that his enemy was a terrible fighter, and
that probably his last hour had come.

I've had my turn already, but I don't think that this is right anyway, cause it's a long shot.

Is it something to do with the molecular structure of the grey death?

TONG:
I'm talking about the molecule's shape: 17 segments, 23 coupling
points... Only Illuminati technicians use sleeve bearings with 34-fold and 46-
fold symmetry; multiples of 17 and 23. 1723. The birth of Adam Weishaupt. Not a coincidence.

Adam Weishaupt is hidden (invisible) in it's structure? In the numbers?

Plus he's illuminati- their invisible hand.

Spyhopping
30th Mar 2009, 18:23
Afaik Weishaupt's mention in DX is flawed, because he was born in 1740something. I don't know if it should be considered as a mistake by Ion Storm or as a personal mistake by Tracer Tong.:p

^ I think Weishaupt was the 'founder' of the illuminati, and it's the way they left their mark on the grey death virus. So it's somewhat relevant

GmanPro

I remember this. He found a gun in a plastic bag hidden in like a water heater or something, and I think it was in an abandoned house. Or maybe that wasn't his only gun? I don't think I found all of the chapters. Hard to be sure because they were all out of order you know. Only the interesting chapters were included in the game supposedly.

Irate_Iguana

He found a gun in a plastic bag hidden in like a water heater or something, and I think it was in an abandoned house.

Correct.

Chapter 23: In the attic he found the old water heater, cold now. He removed the top and felt along the edge for a nearly invisible strand of fishing line. Jacob hauled back on the line until he pulled a dripping plastic bag free of the murky tank. He took the flashlight between his teeth and opened the bag.

Inside was a gun, a clean gun. Its serial numbers filed and the rifling scratched beyond any possible match. The bullets all reloads with blank copper casings. No fingerprints.

A room in the ship, which contains lots of ammo, grenades, and a Thermoptic Camouflage/Ballistic Armor (not sure which one).

If this is the correct answer, feel free to ask the next question instead of me.

And this is correct.

I remember the conversation with the bum in the subways about democracy being suited for small communities, but I can't remember the reference in DX2 off-hand. I'd wager it was either Paul or JC who brought it up in a conversation somewhere.

I guess, he means the Order seeker in Greasel Pit:
"Her Holiness wants to bring everyone together. It's called koinonia. Koinonia. I think it's Greek." (or something like that).

Yushio -

Ridley's done something to the computers, some kind of tunneling virus with an
adaptable polymorph engine like I've never seen before. Way advanced stuff.
It's overwhelming the self-repair routines and I figure we've got thirty, maybe
forty minutes before this whole place goes haywire. I'll do what I can to
block it, but as a CYA I installed a low-level login at root with a recursive
refresh built into the protected ring - if worse comes to worse, it _should_
give us access to the security computers even if the virus brings down the
rest of the system. Hopefully.

Does that mean I get to ask a question again?

If so; What are the two very obvious references to the cartoon series Serial Experiments Lain? Since one is a bit harder than the other, a hint: One is a plot point.

I'm quite a fan of Lain, but I don't remember any obvious references to the show in Deus Ex

I mean they have some similar plot points, such as the theme of a person trying to become a god through technology, or mention the same conspiracies, such as MJ12, but those are a bit too vague, and appear in many other works.

One of them is probably a development of a next-gen communication protocol. And the fact, that in the series they jumped right from rumors about Majestic-12 to development of the Internet.

The second one... I don't know. Killing Knights Templar?

SPOILER appears in many other works? I didn't know that.* Either way, that the "plot-point" reference I thought of.

No, sorry. I didn't think of those. The remaining one, should anyone attempt to find it, is a lot less subtle of a reference.

OT, but is Serial Experiments Lain worth watching?
Yes.

If that is not a satisfactory answer, consider this. If you consider talking to Morpheus in Everett's cellar one of the best parts of Deus Ex, then you might want to watch Lain.

*God through technology I've seen many times. God by linking your own mind up to an internet protocol directly interfaced with reality I haven't seen so many times.

I guess....dunno who else it could be....couldn't find a specific name...but knew it was gunther...one mj12 trooper wrote in a data cube that he saw him crying...I thought that was funny...

Anyway, what's the Smuggler's password to his computer and what tv show does it refer to...

Anyway, what's the Smuggler's password to his computer and what tv show does it refer to...

Smuggler's login/pass combo is "hidden/trustno1". If it is a reference, it refers to X-Files. But I am mistaken or the password can be learned only with UnrealEd?

Okay, a question. In Paris we can see a couple - Rene and O. We've already talked about them. They're a reference to something. What?

Okay, next question - in a riddle "Who am I?" style. :)

I'm something... or someone.
My only communications appear in emails to two people.
However, I do interact with JC Denton - but only on one occasion.

What's my name?
Who do I send emails to?
Where is that one occasion?

Jerion
4th Apr 2009, 11:40
For some reason I have this crazy idea that you're talking about the friendly doctor in the "Level 4" MJ12 facility who'd been previously shot trying to escape.

Or are you just talking about Lebedev?

This description reminds me the Oracle. It sent emails to Alex Jacobson and Smuggler but it never communicated with the player. Unless you think the call in Paris was made by the Oracle rather than Icarus.

Unless she (unintentionally) asked a question with multiple answers, Lebedev is correct.
Lebedev left many messages to his people in datacubes. This doesn't match with the second sentence.

Lady_Of_The_Vine
4th Apr 2009, 17:43
Nathan is correct. However, the info I have found is that JCD did interact with Oracle... though obviously I can't say if its absolutely true as I honestly can't remember that bit. :o

An extremely minor AI in the game, whose only communications appear in emails to Smuggler and Alex Jacobson, found on their computers. The Oracle is an AI that provides information to people, in return for information it does not already have. It attempts to hide its true nature in plain sight, pretending to be an automatic server that responds to messages. It should be noted that the Oracle is the only AI in the entire game that does not interact with JC Denton, except on a computer in an abandoned office building.

Next question, anyone. :)
