- Starting in patch 2.45, players can pledge their everlasting devotion to a significant other in a Ceremony of Eternal Bonding.
- Eternal Bonding Website (http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/eternalbond/na/).

Well then...straight to the point: what can you tell me on the subject of marriages in the world of Hydaelyn?
Here are a few questions that have crossed my mind as of late.

- How does the feature work?

- Is it yet fully implemented?

- Any particular requirements?

- Are cross-race unions allowed?

- What does the wedding attire look like?

- What rewards and other benefits will you gain?

- Any personal experiences you might share?

Also...I wonder what the future might have in store? Concerning shared housing as well as the option to create "minor" characters...?

More about Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn’s marriage system (http://www.siliconera.com/2014/05/01/final-fantasy-xiv-realm-reborns-marriage-system/)
― during this past weekend’s NicoNico Super Meeting 3, Square Enix held a special stage event for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, called “Super F.A.T.E. in Tokyo”.

I would imagine it will be quite similar to how the FFXI marriage system works - http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Wedding_Guide

I can also imagine a bit of media backlash from the LGBT community with the more than likely restrictions on only opposite gender marriages. I saw numerous people complaining over the Valentines event where chocolates could only be exchanged between members of the opposite gender.

2nd May 2014, 12:22
The thought has just occurred to me though that we have the Phantasia potions in FFXIV and these are also going to be going on sale soon, so what would be implications of people using the potions to change to opposite genders, have their wedding and then use another potion to change back. Will the game recognise the change in gender and dissolve the marriage? Will the rings be gender specific so you couldn't equip it? The post mentions discarding a ring would result in 'divorce' but if you still had it but couldn't equip it then would you still technically be married?

Some interesting points to ponder.....

You have a really good point there, Pickle...

The ceremonies regardless of race and gender was a very very smart move from SE. Other game devs could learn a lot from this move and how the modern world is ;)

It looks really pretty.

You should see the 2 person Wedding Chocobo :D

I've yet to read or hear of any benefits that come with being married. Has anyone else found any info on this subject or are the specifics still a mystery? I'd imagine this wedding business is probably gonna cost us a pretty penny, and I'm not in the habit of throwing my gil away for no other reason than being married to some player I've never met before, who could quite possibly be a dude..

27th Jun 2014, 13:20
From looking at the amount of gil that was involved in the FFXI wedding ceremonies then yes it will be a gil sink. I would imagine that the rings you receive will give some stat boost like spiritbond + or something similar but will generally be used for glamour.

The only benefit mentioned so far is 2 person mounts which 2 bonded people can ride at the same time. Both myself and my IRL wife play so a marriage of our in-game characters would be kinda cute ;)

But it's obviously mainly there as a gil sink and is not something everyone will want to do but it's good to have the option.

I think it's fantastic that SE has caught up with the times and isn't reserving weddings for specific gender and race combinations. I don't plan on using this service myself, but am glad it's available for those who want to.

Couldn't agree more with you, they would have been shooting themselves in the foot if it was opposite gender specific. I play as a male character myself and my IRL wife is female which wouldn't have been an issue but I'm Miqo'te and she's lalafell so cross race is also a good confirmation. Just think of the tiny baby kittens we could have! :D

Q: I’m looking forward to the wedding system. Will it be part of Patch 2.4?
A: The marriage system, or “Eternal Bonding,” is currently under development on a massive scale. Despite the resources we’re pouring into it, it’s been slow going because we’re setting it up as a reservation system where you pick a date and time to tie the knot. Right now we’re looking at a Patch 2.45 release. It’ll definitely be worth the wait, though─the system is going to be huge and very customizable. We should be able to give you a sneak peek of things like what kinds of dresses there will be fairly soon.

Q: Will there be any special actions you can use exclusively with your marriage partner, like teleporting to their location?
A: Well, we’re going to start off with a special chocobo that two people can ride together, and add more features bit by bit. Please don’t expect a whole lot right at the beginning.

Can we set permissions for personal rooms with our Eternal Bond partners?
We haven’t implemented this, but we do have the ability to do that, so it’s something we will consider.

Will there be any restrictions on Personal Bond? Such as how many ceremonies per day?
This will be coming in Patch 2.45, and players can only have one Personal Bond. The Ceremony of Eternal Bond guide will be put up on the Lodestone; You apply through the Lodestone, you will receive a bracelet upon your registration, and with both of you having that equipped you will go to a special NPC, talk to them, and you will be able to work on how you’re going to do the ceremony. The ring is given after this. There will be a restriction on how many ceremonies can be performed per day, and there will be a schedule. It is a reservation system so you have to decide when your time will be and apply. Once the date and hour is confirmed, you will receive your invitations which you can customise and then pass out to other Free Company members and friends.

– The process for Eternal Bond involves an application through the MogStation, a special quest that will provide you with rings and attire, choose a type of ceremony, then you can reserve a date and time and send invitations.
– When the day of the ceremony comes, you’ll gather at the Sanctum of the Twelve and cutscenes featuring your characters will play.
– A “Standard” ceremony is free, but if you want to go the extra mile, there is a paid “Gold” ceremony option. It will have differences in the items available. A website detailing this feature is in the works.
