View Full Version : Part of what made DX1 great

Sorry, this may just be a ramble:

So I was thinking about DX1 vs IW, and it occurred to me that part of what led to the legendary status that DX1 has achieved is that it was the very first game in the franchise, and that it fleshed out its universe so well from the start all the way to the end.

To be fair, I only played IW once, and it was when the game was released - almost five years (!) now. So I would like to go back and try to appreciate the game with a fresh take on it. But IW did certain things, such as with the choice of factions, that felt tacked on, there just because it was a Deus Ex-style thing to do. It didn't have the advantage of being able to develop the universe on it's own, since it had to create a story out of elements already present from the original.

Sorry, this turned out to be a bit more aimless of a post than intended, but I hope that DX3 really has an extremely coherent world with well-connected plot points and sub-plot points, because that was one thing that I believe has created such a fascination with Deus Ex in the first place.
