Warren Spector: "I realized that this month, September, was my 25th anniversary in the game business. Yow!"

Warren has updated his blog http://junctionpoint.wordpress.com/
with "short" story about 25 years that he works in the games industry (=

Very interesting!

Congratulations.

If I had one gaming-related wish it would be that Warren Spector joins Eidos Montréal.

It would be... so... -- can't breathe!!!

I'm not sure it would be a good idea. Today Spector's all about cartoons, and hates men in black leather coats.

Some rare old video interview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XI6UBic5Fg) i have discovered on youtube (maybe you already saw it on the disk of Xbox magazine).
It's very good... edification for Deus Ex 3 team developers. That video shows us the man, who puts his soul into the ideas and principles of game development, who practically utters the word "Game" with upper case

I wish him luck with his next projects

Happy 25th Anniversary Warren. :D
It must be an honour to know that you have created the best game ever. Long live Deus Ex.

So, what new "game" is Warren working on where he claims that many people will think it's the "coolest" game ever. What's JP working on?

Walton Simons is named after Spector's friend Walter Simmons.

Walton Simons is named after Spector's friend Walter Simmons.

His name is Walton Simons. The only primary source stating, that he's called Walter is "Rock, Paper, Shotgun" (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2008/02/13/rps-exclusive-warren-spector-interview-2/), but I think, that it's a simple mistake. Simons was an author of some books in "Wild Cards" series and created the character James "Demise" Spector (Walton and Warren basically exchanged their names) - everything is in Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demise_(Wild_Cards)). I also found Spector's wife's website, where she mentions Simons.

This is his blog (http://www.waltonsimons.com/article.php?story=deusex), by the way. I think everything there is pretty much confirmed.

"Hardcore gamers will be "up in arms" over Warren Spector's new game, the Deus Ex designer himself has claimed."

I really don't get all the "Warren's lost his touch" talk that I've been hearing over the years since IW and since JP was bought by Disney. IW was Harvey Smith's failure. And just because Warren's working at Disney doesn't mean that he's going to do a Mickey Mouse game. I don't believe that for a second. He has confirmed that Junction Point is working on multiple projects, one of which is based on Disney IP. And Disney IP includes A LOT of stuff. Some of them here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Disney_feature_films
I'm rather excited about Warren working at Disney. At least if what he has said about Disney understanding the need for creative freedom is true. Also, goodbye financial worries.
He's said on multiple occasions that there are still a lot of stories to tell in the Deus Ex universe. Here's hoping that JP will manage to grab the license some day. ;)

Did you even read what Spector said in the article I've linked to? We may get another good game by Spector some day but his next one will definately not the kind of game I was hoping for. We'll have to see what it really is but all he said so far makes it sound that he wants to target the casual audience - because that's where the money is nowadays. I hate that thought.

http://junctionpoint.wordpress.com/2008/09/21/has-it-really-been-that-long/ is such a beautiful post — inspiring to any aspiring game designers who feel intimidated about getting in, and sheds some light on how Spector rose.

yeah... i think maybe he got too paranoid as a result of all of the conspiracy stuff he had to research fo the DX games... he mentions in one of those interviews how he started to feel slightly paranoid.

It kinda sounds surreal - a bit like a world in the novel "Otherland" [not "Otherworld" of course].

Skeptical here. I'd rather have him double as a head adviser for DX 3 or something.

I'm really excited by what Warren Spector is doing now.

All the more so for his comments about getting away from the past.

He said in an interview that he wants to do a game like Deus Ex again sometime. :)

Spector making some Mickey game? Well I know the end already: Mickey merge with Goofy at the end and plans to take over the world from the Illuminati leaded by Scrooge.

The guy is talented and except Kingdom Hearts (which was half from Square Enix anyway), Disney has been not really rocking since the 16 bits era. Guess we will have something really interresting.

Wait and see. But please Warren, do DX4!!! ;)
