View Full Version : Official Deus Ex Graphic Novel?

Hi everyone, you may have seen my thread regarding my webcomic/graphic novel The Talos Project (http://www.thetalosproject.com) (thread - Deus Ex Themed Comic) but on that thread and elsewhere people (Radius86 on this forum) have suggested the idea of approaching Eidos (and whoever has all the rights to Deus Ex these days) with the idea of producing an Official Deus Ex graphic novel.

So I have started this thread to gauge peoples interest into this idea. I would be interested in being involved in the creation of such a thing, I think it would be pretty cool as a full on graphic novel or at least a small booklet to be packaged with Deus Ex 3 perhaps. Just an idea.

So please share your thoughts and opinions on this as if enough people show an interest I will forward this on to Eidos and make a proposal to get it made.

Cheers

Gio

Wow... I certainly didn't expect a reply so quick! And I'm glad you're taking action so quick as well. I really hope it works out, and Eidos or whoever owns DX sees this.

Good luck Gio!

No point hanging about.

This is almost like my Merchandise thread. Before the game comes out I want to see novels/graphic novels. I'd buy them all.

This is a great idea. I'm glad you're acting on Radius 86's suggestion so quickly.

Go for it!:)

Very good idea! A dark and gritty dystopic story set in the DX universe.

I would say that the best way to go about this is to start working on different concepts and story-outlines and then pitch those to Eidos.

Well I just want to get enough feedback on here to show that there is sufficient interest in a graphic novel first, which I feel there is.

People from Eidos do look on here as one of my members on The Talos Project site has the email address 'someone'@eidosmontreal.com, which I assume came via this site, so I have a fan there it seems. So I'll gather all the comments from here and propose the idea first and see whether they already have ideas as to what story to tell and if it could be used to lead up to the Deus Ex3 story (especially so if it is indeed a prequel).

Cheers

You know now that I think about it, I'm wondering why these guys at Eidos haven't seen the potential for one till now. There's certainly enough source material to create tons of overlapping stories that go way beyond the central plots of DX and IW.

I recommend Gio's work because so far surprisingly it's the closest enough I've seen to the original DX. The computers are similar, someone else in the other threads mentioned one of the characters looks like Walter Simmons.

Of course now that we're talking about this thing, I'd love to know if anyone else here has drawn some stuff too, or any preliminary concept art. Would love to see it. :)

I just wanted to say that your webcomic looks great! I've never seen anything like it and I want to see more.

Making this webcomic official is highly tangible. You'll just have to switch domains or something :)

EDIT: Did you model everything? The effort that was put in the scenery and actors is great, on the edge of fine art.

EDIT 2: Dammit, wrong post :/

Radius86: It is strange why it's not been tapped into yet as it is definately a very cool and potentially lucrative new path to take the franchise.
The main benefit with my work is that I'm a 3D comic artist with 8 years professional experience doing it. There aren't many of those about and since Deus Ex was introduced to us and so remains in our memories best from a 3D game engine, a 3D comic is the best way to faithfully recreate that world for it's fans.

Tracer Tong: Thanks but just to clarify, my comic 'The Talos Project' is my own story and is completely original and will stay that way. This thread is dedicated to the idea of a new Official Deus Ex comic based on the actual characters and main story or perhaps a spin-off story based on a secondary character.

As for The Talos Project, yes I did model everything, every single thing involved in the comic is mine and created by me including the site itself.
Yes it's me, me, me all the time Lol.

Cheers

Fabulous idea, I would definitely buy graphic novel books/comics on DX.
These are popular collectables, just as much as anything you might find in a collectors' edition box...

Good luck to you, I hope Eidos take this idea up. :)

When I said I wanted to see more I meant more of that graphic novel genre with the DX storyline. Reanimating stuff from the DX bible could be very awesome.

MissDenton: I think it would be pretty damn cool. I'm am starting to get things moving now to see what the options are.

Tracer Tong: I was just referring to your comment of making this official indicating making my comic official, which is not the deal.

There are a lot of characters from DX1 that could all have there own book or there own part as a compilation of short stories revolving around a different character. Damn there are a lot of possibilities.

Will keep you all posted on any developments.

Cheers

Hey,

I'm still here Lol.

I moved house, had to deal with my phone network screwing the move up which left me with no internet for nearly two months and then had to catch up with work when I got it back on as I rely on the internet for all my clients.

Anyway, been busy with freelance projects since then, was part of the New Ford Fiesta ad work including a web based animation www.this-is-now.co.uk (http://www.this-is-now.co.uk) along with others...

Since the launch I have been contacted by an interested party to make The Talos Project into a movie on two occasions, a producer in the states and someone here in the uk so been also trying to get the story put together to pitch if for funding so that I can have more time on it to progress the whole thing quicker.

I have also finished 9 more pages for the webcomic and have 1 to go before I will update the site.
I just have to finished off two urgent freelance animation projects and then I will be back to the last few bits and The Talos Project will get an update..

Everyone who signed up will get an email letting them know when it goes up and I will post on here too.

I'm glad you liked the first batch of pages and don't worry, I'm still working on it when I get the chance to bring you more.

Thanks

Kind Regards

-Gio

Wow, the talos project's pretty darn good, well done. It'd be great to see something like that set in the Deus Ex world, and even better it it was officially supported by Eidos.

Digitaldruid: Hey yes I'm there. I have been posting bits of concept art and what not on there. Suppose I should put it here too on the other thread for it.

AaronJ: Cheers

furryfreak: Thanks a lot. Well an Official Deus Ex Webcomic/Graphic Novel would have to be supported by Eidos at least so I wouldn't sued Lol.
