I make this post to propose some looks of weapons all group of weapons contains the same weapons.

I make the designs myself because if I use pictures or screen shots fond on the web the render can change the vote; making myself the designs put each one at the same place. I tried to make different styles because it can display what each person wants, I am sorry to the little amount of choices because I propose only 4 desings

When each one vote for their preferred picture some things can be right or wrong and I want a description to what part of the weapon looks right and wrong of course, you can say if you want a "bullpop" design or a more sixty look, or more futuristic or a more realistic.

You can propose if you want to see more "mechanisms parts" or less, the place of the loaders the form of the muzzle, the buttstock, if we want a screen on it or not, you can say what are the kind of designs you never want to see; etc ...

The first question is what are theses weapons (all squares have the same weapons with different designs)?

The second is what is your opinion about them ?

#3 all the way, futuristic yet realistic since rifles and handguns tend to get lighter and simpler.

Some of those look like rejected Super Soakers.

I think the third batch are the best, but honestly, they look like silly childrens' toys. Firearms are firearms, and their looks don't really change a lot with the years. A pistol is a pistol, a rifle is a rifle... having these frills and fins on them just doesn't make any sense from a functionality standpoint.

I voted 2 and 3, with 3 being my personal preference. 4 was just too cliche "raygun" futuristic. 1 just didn't look right at all in my personal opinion. 3 just looked most feasible - probably because it's the most similar to our current arsenal. 2 was similar, but looked just a bit more futuristicy (although the top gun in 3 looked like an assault rifle, whereas the top in 2 looked like some huge machinegun so it was harder for me to compare them as they looked like fundamentally different weapons). Anyway, yeah.

I was going to vote for 3 but went for 4, much to the dismay of above poster, hehe. :o

That cliche futuristic look actually appeals to me because the other designs all suggest the use of old fashioned 'bullets' and I feel that deadly ammunition in the future will not include these cumbersome little shells, if you like. ;)

Fab sketches and idea, thanks for the poll. :)

Lol at #4. These must have been heavily inspired by the Jetsons.

I second sea. All of them look like plastic toys and I prefer real metal guns.

Definitely 3, the others look too futuristic but it depends when the game would be set. If it is pre-DX1 time then definitely 3 but if it's after then either 3 or 2. Good artwork, you're better artist than I lol.

I'd honestly not have the weapons look like any of those. They're all blandish and just rehash of ideas that have been tossed around for years. I'd like to see something new and different if possible.

Blade_hunter
24th May 2008, 17:44
Yes the group #4 is inspired by Jetsons because I wanted to see if someone wants more crazy designs.
I can make other models of course but I wait for more votes to know the orientation of the future designs :D
I wanted to make a sort a diversity on each design even if it's difficult for me I have my own design for beam weapons.
I choose a beam rifle and a beam pistol for several reasons it's because it's more easy to invent a gun with a beam gun type, than a normal pistol or a rifle even if I can make some different models, I always try to make a realistic pistol when a design a normal pistol futuristic or not even if I want to make an original design I can't make the same variety of designs as for beam weapons.

Three is ok. I think the general design question is wether we prefer the original cyberpunk-look which is basically 80's/90's-style (look at Terminator 1) or an updated cyberpunk 2.0, true to todays vision of the future. Unfortunately we don't know which decade we are talking about anyway.

serene_chaos

Of those designs, i prefer number 3.
Though i'm tending toward a more current-era weapons look
for example:

http://world.guns.ru/assault/scar_h.jpg

Then of course there's going to be the token futuristic awesome weapon that all the factions want you to have for various reasons.

Amazing job on the design, I chose 3, even though I really love 2, I was torn between them.

Kudos, Blade:cool:

Yes, well it is a video game, and you're going to be seeing the weapon on screen. The frills and fins are there for aesthetics.

Good job on the drawings m8. I like #3 the best, although I would like the design team to come up with something totally fresh. Waiting with bated breath fro Fallout 3's weapons. :D

...Firearms are firearms, and their looks don't really change a lot with the years...

I humbly beg to differ. If we look at 20th/21st century sub-machine guns and assault rifles, we see clear progression from a (http://world.guns.ru/smg/owen_45proto.jpg), to b (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/images/m4comp-l.jpg), and finally c (http://www.fnhusa.com/support/images/dynamic/m/FNM0138mb.png). The FN FS200 is amazing.

I voted no. 3, but I'd also like to see more of this (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/images/m107-usarmy-image05.jpg), some of this (http://tn3-1.deviantart.com/fs15/300W/f/2007/006/5/a/Plasma_Rifle_2_by_ivangraphics.jpg) and maybe even some of this (http://www.theothersideofkim.com/images/uploads/2005files/Liberator_FP-45.jpg).

The evolution can display if we are on modern times or not; on some games we can show some things like guns with the look closer to the #4 weapons on NOLF the laser guns look closer to the 4th group, the reason is for the style of the character of this game.

the F2000, the Steyr AUG, the TAR 21, the XM8 and some actual weapons have futuristic look.

the 3rd group of weapons look like closer to actual and future weapons and I understand the votes for this group
the 2nd group is more futuristic but it keeps some realm
the first group is more sci-fi than the others but the look is something like the 80's movies I think
the 4th is futuristic but it looks like the future weapons created on the 60's

I agree with one important point with Miss denton it's the fact most of my guns looks to be a projectile gun or it's not surprising to see them firing a bullet. But I don't think for a laser gun if a weapon manufacturer makes one they wants to use a strange look, even if the Taser have a strange look, perhaps I've wrong; the future will say it for us :).

I like the idea for the little pistol, I've thought to suggest a gun with a look of a lighter with only two shots, a gun like this can be stealthy ^^. Perhaps some players wants a gun small as the PS 20 but a more versatile tool.

The M16 still gets used today and it's been around for close to 50 years now. It's true that weapons like the OICW do look radically different, but I doubt most of them will see incredibly widespread adoption, especially 20 years down the road if we assume that Deus Ex 3 takes place in 2027; even the first game has 20th-century-looking weapons in 2052-54, so for the sake of continuity, unless they place the game dozens of years later, I expect things to stay similar (yes, I'm pretty much just ignoring Invisible War).

I purposefully neglected the F2000 in favour of the SCAR because i think the f2000, while it does currently exist, still looks too futuristic and would change the feel of the game.
I see Deus Ex as a gritty, dirty, mechanical (in a sense) environment, and the f2000 as something too clean and functioning.

I'm more favorable to imaginative weapons like the first game, they have a realistic look, and are futuristic, the GEP gun and the plasma rifle are the more futuristic weapons, on their look.
The second game have some cool designs, but some other weapons like the RL disappointed me because when a see the design on my manual and the site it looks cool but on the hand it looks like a small gun :/
The SCAR is the AR used on crysis, it looks futuristic and contemporaneous.
I don't think the game is in 2027 but if it's in 2027 I don't know what designs the dev's wants to use if it's real weapons, or futuristic with a closer look as modern weapons

Blade_hunter do you know the XM8? That's exactly the weapon of the future. Very simple design and light.

Just for the sake of seeing the evolution of Fabrique Nationale's FS200, here are its ancestors:
FN mle 49 (http://world.guns.ru/rifle/fn49_2.jpg)
FN FAL (http://selousscouts.tripod.com/2fn_fal2.jpg)
FN FS200 (http://www.webarms.com/Gun%20Suppliers/FN/FNFS2000_1.jpg)

I'd like to see a "polished" looking assault rifle, especially for the higher up ranks of special forces. Like, if it had turned up as an alternative to the assault rifle later on in the first game, that would have been cool.

I also would like to see maybe one or two "one-off" weapons in the game. I doubt that it would happen, but it would add a layer of depth if there was an occasional "unique" item. Like, if you choose to assassinate a certain character, you can pick up a personalised revolver, or a dagger that was a family heirloom. I don't know. It just seemed strange that 3 distinct armed forces in DX1 all carried the same brand of assault rifle.

IMO a lot of them look a little too chunky or blocky, I like the slimmer look of modern and new-age weapons.

Number 3 is the best by far. Number 2 is okay, but it looks too clunky. Besides designs will probably be slimmed further down in the future. Do I really need to go into number 4?
