View Full Version : Your favourite Deus Ex sites of yore

Keir

Welcome to the Eidos forum. Please make yourselves at home :)

A question for all you veteran gamers out there: what are your favourite Deus Ex sites? I'd be really keen to have a look at old fansites that we could resurrect for the next step in the Deus Ex community.

I'd also love to hear of any new sites too and any info from the old school is really welcome. Thanks chaps.

Here's my favorite site for Deus Ex:

http://www.lokigames.com/products/deusex/

The problem is the thing is so static. I keep waiting for an update but the page never seems to change! :)

Cool, thanks for the link.

Does anyone have any favourite fan sites? I'd be keen to speak to webmasters of sites, or people that are seriously interested in creating their own online homage to Deus Ex.

Most of the sites have died off after Ion Storm closed, but while it was still active DeusExGaming (www.deusexgaming.com) was fairly good. Although not a site as such, I like the OTP forums since Deus Ex discussion is pretty active and it's home to two of the 5-ish active mods for the game. :)

Regarding Planet Deus Ex, we've contacted IGN and there's a very good chance that it will be re-activated and returned to it's former glory.

As for actual active sites, I enjoy the classic Planet Deus Ex Forums (http://forumplanet.gamespy.com/planetdeusex/), which are still active, despite the site archiving.

Of course, the Off Topic Productions (http://offtopicproductions.com/forum/) forums are also rather nice (as already mentioned).

Lastly, the most excellent website of the largest mod for Deus Ex: The Nameless Mod (http://thenamelessmod.com/)

And I have absolutely no bias on those last two, there

I have to back Trestkon in promoting our Off Topic Productions (http://offtopicproductions.com/forum) site. Both The Nameless Mod (http://thenamelessmod.com) and the High Definition Texture Package (http://hdtp.net/) are pretty important for the community, even if we do say so ourselves :)

Did anyone follow the DX1 playguide at http://it-he.org?
Go under the DX1 tab and read his walkthrough. And try to follow it through.

After playing through DX1 for the hundreth time, I followed this guide and played through it again. And again. And again. And maybe one more time once I get enough freetime.

I can't believe no one's mentioned www.sheldonpacotti.com yet. It's like the quintessential site for serious DX1 lovers, despite the fact that the site itself doesn't contain much (if any) information on the game itself. If you can't remember what this site is, you can find the address on one of the computers in the Versalife building in Hong Kong. He was one of the writers for the DX1.

You are right, but there are very few german Deus Ex Fansites and most of them are inacitve. So i thought it is okay when i mention DeusExHQ as german fansite. ;)

SageSavage
15th Dec 2007, 19:56
Well, you're right Kasjada, there are very few German DX-sites but did you know www.deusex.info yet? It's a bit strange to advertise our own site but I think it's safe to say that we are the biggest German community with over 500 members and we exist (under different names) since early 2002. It's only forums at the moment but there has been an info portal, too. We took it offline because there were too few news and too few active and posting members for a while now. Since DX3's confirmation we see increasing activity but it's still only the hard core right now. You're happily invited to join us and if you need help or want to set up something cooperative with us, please let me know. I doubt there are many German speaking people willing to join a new DX-community at the moment though. It's too early for the masses to gather around DX3 and too late for DX1 and 2.

Keir

This is great. Thanks everyone. If the sites are new - that's cool as well.

I know it's early days but I'm looking at community sites we could get on board as affiliates.

I'm still interested in hearing about sites, but here is a question to the webmasters among us - what sort of things would you like to see in an affiliate scheme from Eidos? Don't be afraid to suggest anything, you never know.

Exclusive screens, excuslive news, community days, access to assets, access to the dev team for Q&A's, that kind of thing...... we're open to all suggestions.

Kasjada
17th Dec 2007, 21:35
Well I worked already for a fansite and I think it is hard to get visitors to your site if you have nothing more to offer than gaming portals like Gamestar, Gamspy/IGN etc.
So exclusive stuff is always a great thing for fansites, but it really needs to be exclusive (if it is a day later available on every site it is useless)

Contact to the devs would be helpful as well e.g. for making interviews.

In addition to that it would be great to have a link / small banner (e.g. 88x31px) on the official pages.

EDIT: Is there a way to get contact to the (german) PR management?

Well, DXE and PDX were my old haunts of "yore," but as stated, the OTP site is pretty much the last remaining hub of frequent activity for the Deus community.

I don't want to destroy your plans, but there are already some english fansites so it might be not very helpful to open a new one. Maybe joining an exisiting fansite is finally better. ;)

Another possibility is to open a fansite for a another language.

But then why not suggesting a free copy of the game for every fansite webmaster?:D (which would of course only count for the most committed fansites)

But then why not suggesting a free copy of the game for every fansite webmaster? (which would of course only count for the most committed fansites)

I think giving a free copy to webmasters of good and active fansites is something that nearly every publisher does. Think of the work that is behind a good fansite and you will see that you could earn much more money in the time you spend on the fansite than the game finally costs.

A limited number of beta test accounts for every (active) fansite would be a nice price for a raffle. :)

Let everyone on this forum beta test :D Or make some kind of quiz (about DX) and people who answer all the questions correctly can beta test.
Of course there should be concept art for fansites (can't anybody hack into eidos' computers to download some if they have :P

it's not a site in that regard, but if you wanna read a little how fans of the old TTLG studio talk about and still admire DX, what they love about it and what the flaws in its successor where, go to:

http://www.ttlg.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=63

for the thread about the announcement of DX3 see here:

http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118284

PS: I imagine the last thread being a little "harsh" in regards to devs, publishers and sequels/prequels/remakes, so take a deep breath before reading it. I give you the benefit of doubt until you announce the "no inventory" feature. :)

*= Some clans in the inactive/old clan forums may still be alive, so this does not neccesarily mean they're dead if they are in this list, just that they have new forums.

My personal favorite: http://theosek.sitesled.com/index.html

Also, AquaShock (previously known as VodunLoas) came to me regarding a new Deus Ex 3 project. It won't be like the (at least 5) current Deus Ex 3 blogs, it will be much different. It's a big project under wraps for the time being.

While I definitely agree that DX Editing is an excellent site with lots of talented modders, I have to correct you: TNM got its start on the still nicely active PlanetDeusEx forums (http://forumplanet.gamespy.com/planetdeusex/). It's true that we've picked up a bunch of team members from DXE over the years though, and we've relied on their tutorials and the help of their forums quite a bit :)

PDX is the only place in the Deus Ex community that maintains constant intelligent conversation. I recommend it above all others.

Hey Fox, so my favourite DX site ever has been Deusexzone.info!!!
I really hope you'll get that site running again??!!!
Because it offered a great overview in generall and there were all the DX mods
available to download.
This was the best geman fansite to me;)

p.s. There's definately a large bunch of people out there still interested in DX...^^

@Kasjada
Man,
hope that your great sounding site "DXHQ" probably will look a lot better than your "seven days forum"^^

Nice to hear that you liked it. To be honsest I wasn't responsible for most of the stuff there but I agree that it was well done. Unfortunately most of the people who coded the CMS and stuff dissapeared one after another over the years while the glitches showed more and more and also the rest of the site aged quite a bit. After our webspace-provider has quit (almost) any hosting activities and we were forced to move, we decided to cut the whole site. It wasn't used very often during its last months anyway. The forums were the the part of it that was really important so we (Bloodlust, Havoc and me) decided to focus on this instead. Nowadays there's very little visible activity but the core of this community is still regularily visiting it and any questions etc will be answered pretty quickly.

p.s. There's definately a large bunch of people out there still interested in DX...^^

Yeah but most of them aren't new so I assume they prefer to stay passive or to participate in international, english-speaking communities like this one. That's what I do myself so I have no hard feelings about that... *crys a little* ;)

I'm sorry for having been a passive member at your site...:) the DX community has always been very small and thus vunerable...

Thx for the Info,
it's cool that the forum is still existing anyway.
In addition, the 3rd part of DX is quite a good reason to stick together, let's say to keep the community alive.
I myself have been a passive part for the community, too. But in the beginning of last year I discovered HDTP. Ever since I checked out the site,
and by the way I got awared of deusexzone.info had been shut down.:(

Thanks again everyone and ¤Sürv*vë - thanks for the awesome post.

If there are any webmasters that want to discuss anything, or any guys that are thinking about setting up a site and have some questions here's my MSN:

keir_eidos@hotmail.com

Please feel free to add me so we can have a chat about your experiences with the Deus Ex scene and the game. I'm in the early stages of putting together a plan for the community campaign, and it'd be useful to get to know a few of you guys moving forward.

Hi survive, btw. :)

James N Robinson
23rd Apr 2008, 15:34
Our introduction has been long over due, I think.

Hello, I am James an administrator from what we believe is the biggest Deus Ex community on the web since 2003.

http://www.dxalpha.com

I'm surprised a few people haven't mentioned our website when quite a lot of people posted their own personal websites. (except the huge list posted by Survive, which is housed on our forums and GlobalNode for helping advertise our existence on his theory videos.)

Criticism aside, we're the competitive and modification group that has pro-longed and added extra life into the Deus Ex multi-player community and no one can deny that. We're also very passionate of the single-player game of course, and the biggest discusssions are housed within our forum.

We want you, Eidos to be aware of our existence as the heart of the community of the series. And I hope you will help us keep up to date as partners in keeping in touch with fans of the series through it's development and post-release.

Our forum to discuss Deus Ex 3:

http://www.dxalpha.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=124

I also would like to hear more about this "community campaign", so I have added you on MSN Keir. :)

- alpha

Kaidan
23rd Apr 2008, 15:51
Yup, would certainly recommend Alpha xD.

As mentioned elsewhere, we're hosting mapping/modding competitions for Unreal, with up to 50 Euro prizes.

Anyway, yes, our DX3 sections has got quite a lot of attention, a lot of ideas/opinions within it, feel free to register and browse.

I recommend Deus Ex - Top Secret (http://deusex-topsecret.ovh.org/) - an archive of every possible information in the media about Deus Ex, DX:IW or Deus Ex 3. There are also links to interviews and a timeline of real world events. A great place to visit.
