I thought the unit selection was excellent. I prefer the heavy artillery, and loved the BBs. What I would like to see is a more diverse roster of these ships. A world setting (german, US, UK, IJN, Italian) with all the best heavy ships those respective countries had to offer

I'm just posting quickly before work, I'll add the classes I'm referring to later - but a wider range of BBs and CAs

2nd Jul 2007, 14:09
I liked the units on BSM and I can't think of any other types of ships that would be needed other than different individual BB's, CA, DD's, Subs, etc, etc....

I'd still like to see troop transports incorporated into the game. For instance having a small Island or small land based installation on the map that is Anti-Aircraft Guns or coastal Fortresses that are unmanned. If you get your transport ship to that area before you opponent then their is a animation of solider unloading off the transport and all the AA Guns/coastal Fortress become Active. If your opponent gets a transport to that area later in the game, his guys storm the beach and take over the AA/Costal Fortress for his team.

Sticking to the Pacific theatre, I'd really love the

yeah yeah and the

I think we'd all love some "what-ifs" like

or da

MONTANA!!!! *hint hint*

Just thought I'd get straight to the point.

2nd Jul 2007, 15:52

really depends on the scenario doesn't it? I love the CAs, but not on Steel Monsters. :)

But the units that I find the most interesting to play are the PT boats, submarines, dive bombers, torp bombers, and destroyers.

I would like to see more DDs on most maps. Not a lot more, just maybe one more per player slot.

I would also like to see more submarines, especially on the maps that don't currently have them at all. Submarines add such a good strategic impact on any map.

Additional units? I don't really know all the specific units by name and ability, but more of the variations in all the classes would be great. More historical variations in all planes and ships categories. Maybe even some escort carriers, smaller, faster, but only one 4 plane squadron.

2nd Jul 2007, 16:44
I liked all the units, they each were diffrent in there own right.

I would like to see diffrent navys represented (Germany, Great Britain, Italy, US and Japan.) and like some have said a CVL wouldnt go a miss.

I would like to control a tanker in MP, Protect a convoy MP mission (like Protect the VIP). This would add a diffrent game type to MP but not that important.

2nd Jul 2007, 17:44
But the I-400 is a carrier. very sneaky one!

Hmm... Well, without a doubt my favorite units are as followed, in order.

New York class BB, I could take on the Yamato in this.

Iowa Class BB

Mogami Class CA

Takao Class CA

SBD Dauntless Dive Bomber

As for units I would WANT to see.

Baltimore class CA, something to actually give the Japanese heavy cruisers a fight.

Escort Carriers and Carrier Escorts such as DE, flak ships, ect.

Helldiver, the real divebomber that attacked the Yamato

HMS Hood

ME 262

Well, here, look at this website. It is a list of every BB used durig world war two. Have fun! http://www.voodoo.cz/battleships/

Hello all

in update to my morning post

the units I'd like to see most are:

US - Montana class, Colorado class, Alaska class (and fix the error of putting the Pennsylvania and New York both under the same class, when they were actually separate classes themselves

German: Well, obviously the Bismark and the Tirpitz, and the pocket battleships

Italy: the Littorio class

many, many more, but there's only so much room

2nd Jul 2007, 23:29
I've enjoyed all of the original units for their various strengths and weaknesses.

In addition to all the great items mentioned in the previous posts,

I'd like to see Mine Sweepers in both Single Player and Multi-Player missions.

In terms of favorite units I have to say I'm pretty much addicted to the big battleships - thanks to the DLC there is even more since then. As for the planes the B-17 is great (would be good to take control of it's defense guns as somebody suggested).

Units wish list: it's an interesting point. Assuming the developers are willing to extend the game beyond the US/IJN war events a whole new can of worms can be opened up in the Atlantic building up the German and England roster. Oh and not to forget Italy of course.

I also would recommend to increase a little bit the "passive" type units - cargo ships, oilers. In every RTS type game there are missions to escort or protect a group of units - so it would be good to take control of these type of ships - like in a convoy scenario.

If some other wishes heard and the future game is going to extend to missions where some land based operation to be supported we are going to need landing vehicles under control as well.

To be absolutely honest in general I'm quite happy with the existing "variety" assuming the new game is going to remain on the Pacific. If there are some efforts to be put in it should be more firming up the other components (many of them!) and leave the "unit" story for the last. Obviously a new game is going to need some "new unit" feature - marketing people likes it very much but again, for me this is one of the strongest part of the game...

Unit selection was well done. A good representation of the usefulness from BB on down to DD (I'm a DD fan myself). I like the maps with the largest diversification(sp?) of units. Coral Sea, Samar and Sibuyan are sweet that way.

ALL the units, LOL. Don't overlook the Whatif units like the Full German Plan Z, Super Yammie, Montana, etc. Include the other navies as well, they had some cool ships. Italian, French, Aussie.

And not just combat ships, planes(scout, sea, combat), aux. ships(cargo, troop, supply, civilian)

And since I'm Canadian, if there's an Atlantic Escort Map a Canadian Corvette for Sub hunting.

I think we all haved summed up pretty well what we want to see.

3rd Jul 2007, 14:50
Gota say i liked all the units, the heavy bombers with there AA gun view were particularly fun. My one gripe was that you rarely get yo use so many of them in single player or even in multi........

A Mission Editor where you could try out these different craft at your lesiure would be a massive bonus for me  Many of the units in the game you never get a chance to use or can only control briefly in one map, kinda a waste i would think.

If they just gave us access and flexibility to use all the units in BSM i would be happy with the force mix , then i wouldnt really need any new units.

a lot of cool ideas here i think if there were to be a new patch for the game id like to see the following

B-24 Liberator
P-40 Warhawk (as a multi player unit not just SP)
SB2C/A-25 Helldiver
F6F Hellcat
P-51 Mustang
P-47 Thunderbolt
F4U Corsair

USS Saratoga CV3
Balao and Gato classes of subs
Cannon class destroyer escorts
Destroyer minelayers (USS Adams DM 27)
Tennessee-class battleship
Des Moines class heavy cruiser (a definate match for takao and mogami)

Grace -torp bombers
Jake and Mavis as player controlled units
Ki-44 "Tojo" fighters

Ise Class battleship
Shinano CV
Oyodo class cruiser

think thats it :D

Hey folks,

Unit-wise I can't really offer much personal insight. Although I'm an enthusiast to the game: to me it's just cool ships and planes which shoot at each other. I'm happy with the units as long as they're balanced - which I felt they were.

Favourites? - The subs (Narhwall and Type B) : I enjoy being shady and a good challenge "Lone Wolf". They need to be much more useful though, limited ammo + the ammo you do have isn't much use.

P.S. Sorry I'm Late - Been Away :D

If just the Pacific,

Yes by all means, I-400's, CVA, AVG (1941) -CVE (1943 on) for both IJN and USN, CVS for Seaplane advocates like me :), LCT, LST, AKA, APA, AK, AP for Transport and Landings, AO AOG, for fuel and realism in transport and logistics some variety of CA and CL if we have a dream wish list

If other Theatres possible, Atlantic, Med, Baltic, Indian, i would love to have
some basic combat types and some support types including, Zepplin for Kreigsmarine, Graf Spee, a good range of SS for U Boats, IXB and C, VIIC, good range of British escort as well as some basic combat types, some of the superb Italian Fleet units,

I am not as wild about the heavies as many, the BB's were outdated and a poor use of resources for their performance.....much more interested in carriers, and smaller units, and air power. And Naval Blimps, would be nice :)
