View Full Version : "how to preform the Adrenalin dodge"

Right this move is hated by almost everyone, so after much deliberation and pulling my hair out, i mastered it and thought id let you all in on it from a gamers point of view.

Anyway as with all the creatures in TR:A they have a rage meter, only bosses are visible, but other creatures show a visual sign of when they are in rage, some howl or grown but all will show some kind of taunt. then they will charge at you.

when they charge at you best thing to do (unless in a closed corridor) is start side stepping either left or right, MAKE SURE YOUR GUNS ARE LOCKED ON THE TARGET OR ATLEAST A TARGET, whist holding down the direction you are traveling in, wait until they are almost upon you and press your dodge button, You must be moving first.

You will go into bullet time if you have pulled it off, now just wait for the cross hairs to make a sound, and press fire.

So in reference.

*Target gets aggroed
*Keep target locked
*DO NOT FIRE ONCE TARGET IS CHARGING **very important, as you might fire too soon**
*Side step or run towards (only run towards target when in a close corridor) and maintain movement
*Once target is in striking distance press the dodge key but do not fire right away.
*Wait for the cross hairs to meet, and the sound
*Press fire.

Hope this is a better way of explaining it, I'm trying to get some screen shots of this in action, but my fraps is refusing to work with TR:A at the moment.

thanks for the info but you forgot one thing.... WHAT or WHERE is the dodge button???

what are you playing on?

I know the default dodge key for the PC is shift, it also make Lara roll, drop down from a ledge and do some crazy ass somersault when pressed to many times.

the problem i have found with this move is that sometimes im required to hold shift and other times a simple tap works. its a neat idea, but i just dont see how they released the game with such an inconsistent move like this.

also if you are holding two directional buttons at the same time (like MOST gamers accustomed to the WASD control scheme will be doing in a fight) it wont work.

Well i my self always hold down the Roll / dodge / shift key.

Are you sure your not firing too early? as this will stop the Adrenalin dodge.

Other things that will stop the adrenalin dodge are,

Firing to early.
Getting hit / knocked during it
falling in water *obvious one*
taking any kind of damage

also if you are holding two directional buttons at the same time (like MOST gamers accustomed to the WASD control scheme will be doing in a fight) it wont work.

that's why its best to just stop what your doing soon as the creature starts to charge at you, and start moving in one direction only, this will free up the other keys as your no longer fighting, your now waiting and getting prepared for a dodge move whist continuously moving, the boss fights are always in a large location to allow for this, smaller creatures are a different story mind you as most are encountered in tight corridors, when this happens run toward the creature until its about to get you and then preform it.

i find a lot of the small creatures that go into the enraged charge mode are far too close to perform this shot. by the time you get into bullet time they are already tackling you. especially the panthers and mummies.
its gotten to the point that i wont kill enemies straight up. i will shoot them a few times and then just dodge them for about 10 seconds to let thier rage die down. then i will finish them off. sometimes if they are far enough way the magnums can finish them off as they get enraged and you dont have to go into bullet time, you can get them right before they tackle you.

That's because the POS called a PC keyboard has problems registering combinations of several keys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Key_jamming), and each keyboard is slightly different...

Yes, it was a pain with Star Control (http://sc2.sourceforge.net/), and it still is, several years later.

In short: do yourself a favour, get a gamepad. There's no way keyboards will get fixed after that long a time.

I cant see how you think a detailed description in how to control Lara, is a walk through? or "insider help", this is a explanation as to how to pull off a very KEY and important maneuver, not some guide to killing the T-REX, you would have to see one of my other replies for that :P

i meant no offense to you (and am very unsure why your taking it as such) but a compliment to tanais.

i'll edit it anyway. *sigh* how depressingly horrible to have ones compliments taken as offense.

you didn't notice the little :P at the end of the post? i didn't take it offencive, just sounded like you implied my post was some kind of walk through.

So, sorry if you think i took offence.

"Hated"? It's too easy for me and it makes the fights too darn short and simple.

For the PS2 platform, you push Circle + left/right, then shoot with R1.

I have changed my shift button to middle mouse button,so it eliminates the keyboard issue,i just hit any of the directional buttons closely followed by preesing middle mouse and it normally always works, but i agree, with tigers they tend to be too quick so it dont always work on them

I've found it best to use the Advanced Toggle mode. I tap L1 to get the guns out, then I just have to worry about the timing.

I followed the steps exactly, and watched the videos. I all that happens when I try is that she slows down a bit and rolls. I don't get any beep or chance to shoot the centaurs' heads. I wait for them to be enraged and charge. With the guns aiming but not shooting, I wait for the centaur to be almost upon me. I make sure I am already moving, then press 0 ( the roll key). She rolls, but I don't go into bullet time. Someone help:mad2:

And that's why I can't beat the centaurs. It won't go into bullet time

Love your work buddy, did it first time with your help. i found that the most important thing is to already be moving then press the circle button when the picture of the button comes up. Worked for me every time.
