Hi techies

Well, this thing drips atmosphere like nothing I've ever experienced before. It's totally immersive and compelling. I'm even starting to get to like Lara's little sister.

However, I'm stuck in Vilcabamba. I'm trying to jump back to catch a ledge above one of the two pools. Lara's little sister lands in the water every time. Been there for hours. Searched for other routes, ledges, hidden switches and tunnels but to no avail.

I'd really like to continue the game! Any ideas on how to get a hold of that ledge? I suspect a bug **** :D

Got a screenshot or more description where you are?

Ah, not a known issue then. Sure, here's the place. Been trying again today but she still won't catch the ledge:

Found this in Stella's walkthrough (disabling full screen effects worked for me):

NOTE: There is a potential bug here in which Lara will not grab the ledge in front of the passageway with the ramp. So far I have not heard of a definitive solution, but I have listed several possible solutions in a footnote below.

A number of players have encountered a bug in which Lara will not grab the ledge in front of the passageway with the ramp. Perhaps this will addressed in a forthcoming patch, but in the mean time, here are a few suggestions other players have shared with me: (1) Reduce the screen resolution in the Options menu. You may need to experiment a little to see which setting works best for you, but if you have a very high-res or wide-screen monitor, a lower setting may do the trick. (2) Disable 'Full Screen Effects' in the Options menu. (3) If you encountered a problem while installing the game in which the installation stalled at 95%, follow the instructions on the Eidos support site to reinstall. This may also solve the jumping problem. If all else fails, you're welcome to download my savegame file for the next checkpoint. Instructions are included with the download.

Wow, that's a pretty nasty bug. I play with Full Screen Effects off and I just simply back jumped right to that. I would have never figured out what he was talking about because for me there were no hard jumps there.

There is one later though where she has to jump onto a pole in between a smashing door trap. If you time it to avoid the smash trap, she just passes right over/through the pole she has to land on. If you time it bad so you're about to be smashed, she will land right on it.

I can understand how this would work.

There are now less pixels and so less of a gap to jump.

The Eidos Germany support reports that updating your graphic card driver should fix that problem.

Hi Goran, okay it's probably a conflict with my onboard crappy graphics card thingie which was disabled as my Radeon is up to date. I need a new PC mate, this one is falling behind the times :D

According to their support it is really only a driver problem and fixed with an update to the latest graphic card driver.

Did anyone see this weird guy talking? What is he saying? Update the graphic card driver? Naw, can't be it. Has anyone tried it? Can anyone tell us if that helped?

Sorry Goran, of course I've got the latest updated graphics drivers. I use DriversHQ to regularly check my drivers and update them. Here is the info:

Radeon 9250
Driver Date 03/05/2006
Version 8.252.0.0

As far as I'm aware, this is the latest driver for my graphics card. I did have a Geforce7 but it caused horrendous problems playing America's Army so I got rid of it. I need to update my PC mate :)

I've been playing with full screen effects disabled and have had no other problems whatsoever.

That driver is over a year old. ATI and NVidia are releasing new drivers for their cards almost every week.

Yeah, it's an old card http://209.85.48.11/3106/35/emo/b%28l%29e%28h%29.gif

That does not necessarily mean that a newer driver would have no effect. :rasp:

Hi Goran, I don't think this card is supported anymore mate http://209.85.48.11/html/emoticons/sad.gif As far as I'm aware, I have the latest driver for it. If you know of a more up-to-date driver, I'd be very pleased to know where it is http://209.85.48.11/3106/35/emo/hy%28p%29er2.gif

Well, why not ask ATI AMD?

Catalyst 6.11 is the last driver to support your card, but it's at least newer than your current one... (http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/radeon-prer300-xp.html)

I still can't even begin to think how the graphics driver could affect whether you can get somewhere or not, though - this isn't friggin' Quake 3 where the height you could jump was a bit dependent on the frame rate... :nut:

How far Lara jumps and where she can grab should only depend on the program code executed on the CPU, even if there's no graphics card in the PC... :D

Thanks Leak, I'm downloading it now. I'm going to be investing in a new machine sometime later this year :)
