View Full Version : TR2 Home Sweet Home - An Idea!

Hi all,

Well, you know how it is with me, always wanting to get to forbidden areas ;) I was just reading about the TR2 Home Sweet Home level in the Anniversary board and as I was mentally picturing that level the thought struck me that I had yet to try the corner bug for the sole purpose of getting outside of the gate as you can indeed do in the training level.

If it is possible it is unlikely to be easy for there are a fair few enemies loitering outside of the front door. The strategy would presumably be to pick up the ammo and shotgun etc from the armoury then kill the thug, the dog and then the gunman who shoots out the bedroom window then rush downstairs and finish off all the enemies outside.

Presumably, the wrench-yielding thug who appears in the kitchen would not appear out the front immediately, giving us time to get onto the roof and from there, attempt to get outside the gate. That said I want there to be gunmen still alive if I manage to get out there so maybe the best route would be via the kitchen, taking the path to the right retracing the assault course. There's a thug out here somewhere and as you approach the last straight towards the maze entrance a dog or two appears. I think you can do the corner bug on that very corner. If so I am guessing you'd have to be quick about it incase the gunmen race around.

I assume they would target Lara whilst she was running around the top of the maze hedges too so you'd need to conserve a bit of health.

Obviously, once all the enemies are dead the game ends. Has anyone tried this? Heck, I think I am going to get the game out and try this now to see if it can be done :D

I'll let you know what happens ;)

You're so lively, Lo. And you get me going once again. :D  Best of luck for you (and me, lol).

Gone and done. Impossible.

You can clear out all the lesser bad guys and leave the dual shotgun one alive (who is he anyway?), then you can go and lock him on the fridge. That way, you have the whole house for yourself and all the time in the world... :D

But you can't reach the outer side over the wall, there's an invisible barrier -- the so called end of the world -- on the top area, and judging from a closer look to the outside through the gates, I don't think there's any other way 'in' that area.

It was worth trying though. :) Now come on Lo. -- we want more of these! ;)

Sorry the pics are kinda dark. :o

Thank goodness you have tried it and put me out of my infinite misery Treeble

I tried getting up onto the corner of the hedge but she kept going through and appearing on the other side instead of on the top! Then I reloaded and this time I stayed in the bedroom, shot the baddies and then jumped off the balcony. Before that, another gunman appeared miraculously on the balcony - behind me as I was facing the bedroom and checking for the appearance of another intruder.

I tried the wall below but was still having no luck with the corner bug - I am always useless at this. Rarely does it work first time and on this occasion I just thought that the bug had been disabled on this level!

Thanks for trying it though! :D What a shame it didn't work, I would have been miffed after 100 more goes at the bug to find I couldn't get over the wall! The same barrier exists on TR3 mansion.

Good screenshots - it didn't help that you have limited flares and it's pitch black but from below the balcony there is just enough light to see what you are doing, even if I wasn't exactly doing anything remotely useful

I shall now go to bed and dream up new challenges for us treeble ;)

EDIT: I too wondered if you could entrap one of the thugs in the freezer but thought they would be too fast. With Winston, you can read the obituary page twice over before he manages to turn round lol. Then I forgot to even try it!

Speaking of using bugs to get into unintended areas...
I believe it was in the TR Gold Shadow of the Cat level, there was a fenced in area outside the temple where you could use the fence bug to get outside the explorable area and into the desert. And there actually are enemies and some stuff to find out there.
And also areas just too hot to survive. Lara will collapse and die even before getting to the invisible wall that Treeble mentions.

I decided to have another go just to practice my corner bug - only this time I attempted to shake of the henchmen in the maze but they just follow you in there.

Deekman - the only fence bug I managed to exploit and quite by accident was the one in TR2 in the Barkhang Monastery. It's near that area with the movable crate and the waterfall. The other side of the gating is the drained swimming pool and she'll walk straight through it between the textures ;)

The one Deek mentions in his post is actually very useful -- you can pick up the Uzis in that forbidden area. I think it's a clever way for Lara to die before reaching the horizon, otherwise she'd realize the pyramids on the far end were just a 2d painting: nothing but an illusion.

Now I mention this, I feel the urge to get there and take some screenshots, lol. The fence bug is rather easy to do, I performed it accidentally once before knowing how it was done. So, any interest on screenshots? :D

I'm interested Treeble! :D

I haven't played TR Gold - is this an extension of TR1? Only I remember some gold metallic fencing in some of the Egyptian bits.

I'll also pop one up of the Barkhang Monastery seeing as by some miracle I happen to have the disc in the drive at this precise moment :D

I used the flight patch to get outside the gate! Determination sometimes pays off lol :D

Indeed it is. Quite a fun set of additional levels they are, as well. If you've got the original TR running on your computer, you can download them free of charge. :)

Alternatively, I hear a remake has been recently released for the TRLE. Obviously it's not exactly the same mainly because of engine differences, but it you can't get the original to work, it's worth a shot. ;)

Anyway, here are the snaps. The fence bug works the same way in TR1:

The promised land (pic 3) is nothing but an illusion you can never get to... Most clever.

Thanks for the screenshots there Treebs! Very interesting for I recall immediately the area. I think I attempted to pass through this fence before but maybe I didn't get the approach just right.

In the TR2 shots (the secon one demonstrates this), you can just about see the seam that Lara passes through. You have to go a bit steady here though lest she continues through the fence and falls to her death in the empty swimming pool :D

Thanks for the download tips. I assume they will come as zip files as I am on dial-up (*Stands up* 'My name is Lo and I'm a neanderthal')

On the topic of the flight patch, I hadn't realised how simple it was to reactivate after I got stuck using it last year in the Offshore Rig. I re-read the readme file as a quick refresher and next I shall hopefully succeed in copying the file to my TR3 folder as I believe that this game is infinitely more fun than TR2 when playing with the flight patch enabled :D

The only difference I have noticed this time around is that before, I was invulnerable but this time, if I fly near fire or over lava pits, Lara catches fire. She can be harmed in flight mode by flame throwers and also bullets & harpoons. The only things she is safe from are animals and wrenches - I'm sure she was untouchable by anything the first time I had a bash

I must contradict you on that, Lo. I found Tomb Raider 2's soundtrack very weak, on the whole. Nathan kind of overdid the choirs too much for my taste, to say nothing of a certain 'spark' missing to the music; like he didn't really know what to build on. He corrected it all for no. 3, though, in my opinion. He even brushed up some of Tomb Raider 2's tunes and only made them sound better!

"A long way up" and "Looky what we have here 2" I found the stand-outs from no. 2. Apparently Nathan thought so too, as both were taken into Tomb Raider 3, unaltered.

And you are completely forgetting the awesome Last Revelation soundtrack, too, by Peter Conelly. Both no. 3 and LR have my recommendations for TR soundtracks.

I think TR2 has it's moments (and also sound effects I refer to as opposed to soundtrack music such as the floating island ambience, the dropping of the spanners and such in Diving area and the chanting of the monks in the monastery).

I thought the Venice violin music was lovely and the music to the end credits was quite snazzy :D

That said, I don't disagree with the quality of the ensuing stuff - I think each game has it's own appeal. I would have to listen to the whole lot together to pick out my favourite pieces though. I'd have to replay TR4 to recall the soundtrack though as I haven't played that one as much

Hi Lo. Now here's an idea: if you'd be interested, I could burn them downloadable versions on a DVD/CD and mail them to you free of charge, assuming you're not actually in Venus, that is. That'd be way too expensive a postage rate. Drop me a PM if you like. :)

27th Apr 2007, 21:43
PM has been sent....roger that!

Thanks Treebs! Neat and most generous offer. It is usually me giving out the goodies and now that I am the potential recipient I know first hand how good I made people feel

Seriously though, that is one lovely feeling to be the receiver of a little treat! :o

Thank you so much, you're a gem buddy :)
