View Full Version : Areas You Missed When First Playing

Just recently, I was playing The Lost Artefact on the PC.

At the end of Level two, Willard's Lair, you get through the secret door in the office library and run up the ramp and then on to some stairs after picking up some ammo around the corner. You jump to the right to enter an area where yu have to insert something into a section af wall to open a gate near where the helicopter awaits Lara.

Up until recently, having done this part and returned to the stairs, I simply headed for the exit and then went into the crawlspace, killed the Jock and grabbed the goodies before jumping towards the chopper.

But just before you get to that end section, there is another area to the left of the staircase that I had been missing! It brings you out to near where you started off in Highland Fling, next to the flag high up ahead when you first climb over the wall. The gates are now open into a seperate area where a few more Jocks await you and there are pick-ups and an inside area which also leads you back out and near to the helicopter.

Don't you just love it when you discover a whole area you had previously missed? :D Another bit I missed in the same game was the secret area in the Euro Tunnel. After Lara floods the pit with water by inserting a card into a machine in the toilet cubicle where she first enters this part, she dives down into the water.

I never looked around before because usually I don't bother to return to the machine and flood the pit- I just jump to the exit door. This time I swam down to get the harpoons and discovered a tunnel that leads to a vibrant, lava-filled area where teradachtyls are flying around. There isn't much to be had in terms of pick-ups but it was a huge surprise to enter a new area and a stunning one at that!

So, my question is, have you ever missed a substantial section of any of the games only to discover them for the first time on subsequent plays? Every time I play now I make sure I have a really good look around now I know what enemies are waiting for me and at which points in the level.

When I played TR1 for the first time, I missed out a large chunk of Natla's Mines, and ended up with no weapons at the end of the level.

In TR2 I missed out the bit with the dinosaurs in the Great Wall level. I was a rather annoyed that I missed that bit.

In Thames Wharf in TR3 I managed to end miss out the whole thing with the water tanks because I somehow ended up at the belltower. I thought that the level was rather short and easy and that it was odd that Lara was running out over black areas with no texture (but I thought that bit was just my computer being dodgy, like usual...). I was most surprised when I went back to do the game again and found out that I missed out most of the level

Yes I read that bit in the bug thread hehehehehe! Well I can see how people might think it is part of the route for why else would there be a gap! :D

I only discovered the dinosaurs in The Great Wall because I fell off the edge when running towards the pulley and landed up near a skeleton and all this thudding noise if I remember rightly! I rarely bother going down there these days (I use the weapons cheat instead ;) ), having played the game lots without cheats. It's that climb back up that bores me. Aaagh long ladders are so tedious - another one is in the Oil Rig, it goes on forever.

Here's another short but interesting bit I missed too in TR3. In the Coastal Village level, after she talks to the Australian soldier in the tree hut and the next level begins, instead of just crossing the swamp I went back around the corner to see if I could get back to the village but when you go there, there is this rumbling sound and the environment just keeps on vibrating and all this rubble falls down. Basically the pathway back to the huts is blocked and I spent ages testing the rocks to see if there was a way to climb up somehow.

I also jumped onto those green swamp squares in the Coastal Village level after turning the wall wheel just to see if it was possible to cross before acquiring the map in the Crash Site start of level. I was getting quite excited when I found I could land on some squares but I guess the makers noticed the error as you can only partially cross before the rest of the squares become unstable!

I just love trying to get to places that are forbidden territory! :D

Maybe this buddy also same feeling like me?!?! You were missing about what?
Dino or depth distance? Oh~ Yeah~ You said detailly, but Sorry, I don't catch
clearly all of yours. Missing... This mean Nostagia?!?! So I missed normally,
HEIGHT all of old version of TR serise. Any feeling distance of HEIGHT...(=acrophobia)
HUGE size and this HEIGHT... I can't feel & find much this scale(case) in TRL. TRA.
There was very high distance in AOD at "Ancient Tomb" after watering all after
catching "obscura-note" and I went to down of bottom by swming. It was
Very~ Very~ Very~ long distance... Maybe I think this HEIGHT was the most
very long distance in TR serise?!?! But I mean... We should can see any
object which we can find on the bottom... e.g. we can see car's head-light
(through binoculars) in the Japan level when Lara top of the buildings.
But we can't go to the bottom in Japan Level. This is missing...
This is diffferent method of old version and new version.

You can feeling Lara's houre HEIGHT (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtOvuDOix9g) on the roof.

And I missed programming of Monks of Bahkang-temples.
I like this programming. Lara didn't need to fighting enemy.
But when Lara attack to them, they also attack to Lara...
I like very much of this programming. I feel very missing about it.
And I missed sometime "Omin-Bus" style like TR_05.
Those story is segment-segment-segement-segement...
Maybe I will feel miss Auto-bike racing at Peru,
in TRL in the future...

hehe~ :rasp:
