MP Demo Strategy

These are only recomended opening moves, the battle will change so much that after the first few minutes so you have to remain flexible to the changes.

US
The absolute first thing you should do is get those planes in the air ASAP! Start moving your carriers Southeast behind the island; this will buy you the time needed to make a strong defense. This would also be a good time to have your shipyards start producing warships, don’t rely only on those BB’s (Battleships) yes they are most powerful but they are painfully slow, I usually go with a good mix of Destroyers and Cruisers. Start moving your fleet from the shipyard and use them to slow the oncoming Japanese fleet. Just remember to get replacement units in the air/sea as soon as they are available. Don’t forget about the repair panel either!

Japanese
Again start by getting your planes in the air and ships out to sea. Forget about the carriers and go for the shipyards. Send the majority of your fleet to knock out the shipyard and hold 1 or 2 ships in reserve for the coming US counter attack. Subs are great for scouting out enemy positions but don't leave them submerged to long. Also try to fire a nice spread of torpedoes from a good distance to increase hit probability and decrease detection. I tend to use the subs as more of a harrassing force.

You can look around by clicking and holding one of the thumbsticks. Useful for watching your target sinking after a torpedo strike...

You can only look in front, but if you press the y button you will go into "gun camer view"

Me neither!

Pretty good guide, although I think the battleships are pretty useful, as long as you provide them with some hellcats or zeros for air cover. They can take shedloads of punishment - the repulse kept firing her main guns half underwater! - and those big cannons make mince meat of airfields/dockyards. Definately get those carriers as far south as possible!

How do you ping for subs?

How do you ping for subs?

The destroyers will do this automaticlly, the subs have to be in range and at periscope depth to be detected

to look in 360 mode click and hold the LEFT thumbstick, and then rotate it to look about. The right one still lets you fly about, for me mainly into the water though, which is why i avoid flying

you should send a sub out to the Americans carriers, i did this, and i took out both carriers with 1 sub, and i think that you should send some fighters out to guard the warships that are heading to knock out the shipyards, without fighter cover, enemy air will eat them up

What is the ship range in? Kilometers? Seems I could plainly see the American CV with my Japanese DD, yet even though I had him targeted the Artillery gun option remained red.

...the number of red "dots" for a BB cracks me up. Basically a solid ring around the targeting reticule. ;)

Just played my 2nd hosted game 1v1. Can you both play as the same side? That'd help in showing some of the new people (LOL myself included) what to do.

After playing the demo for a few days i have stumbled across a few things that seemed to be more obscure game mechanics. What i mean by this is that these are not covered in the control/tips section.

Though I'm sure many of you know these already:

1. In order to use the formation option on your ships, you must first select the ships you wish to be in formation to follow a single ship. Then using the x button you can create a formation. Something that initially confused me about this is that there is no button to 'set' the ships in place. You use the analog stick (forgot which one) to move the ship's location and use the d-pad (left and right) to cycle between ships, once you have your desired formation, hit A.

2. You can change the load-out of your dive-bombers to use depth chargers (haven't yet tried this myself, but the ign guide says you can http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/756/756600p1.html)

Anyone else find any other game mechanics not covered in the control/tip section of the demo?

I used the Depth Charge drop from planes once. I sent out 2 squads of them on a sub that was pissing my team off. Needless to say he was a little upset :D . Alot of this stuff helps, thanks!

Another question

When you press x and go to orders there are some self explanatory things (torpedo avoid/use torpedoes/free attack), but things like AI flight deck, cap, and group attack i am unsure of. Anyone know what they do specifically?
