In Legend, if you played with next gen content turned on, the "classic" green top was shiny, like rubber. Basically, like the top that the models used when at E3 and all that (ahhh, memories of Rhona Mitra  ).

But now, from the screen shots, it now looks as though the top is made of wool or something. Say it ain't so. I don't care that it's not realistic, give Lara her rubber top ;)

this is definitely a ribbed cotton top.....perhaps ole lara got so fed up with the sweating all the time.....believe me when you have worn a latex vest, after 10 minutes you will be heading for the shower....i speak from very painful experience!

ooh just remebered poor ole Nell came a cropper at an event in a rubber vest...suffice to say that she was soooo hot...she made a swift exit before her adoring public thought she might have relieved herself....if you understand my meaning

i swear her original outfit isn't rubber... but like a green swimsuit with khaki hotpants over it

Rubber top! That's hilarious!
It only looked rubber in FMVs. If Lara really had a rubber top, she would get oversweaty and get skin contamination - the skin doesn't breathe in rubber.

swimsuit? hmm...interesting. I always thought of a "special t-shirt" (the ones that are specially made for such adventures/trips) :p
I don't like the new sweater on TR:AE, but that's probably because I don't like these stuff in general...

btw, am I the only one who thinks that it was white with some turquoise on it in TR1/2/3? :nut:

Rubber top...?

What's next, give her the bun and triangular breasts?

personally i think the rubber top was invented for the models.....I didn't notice the swimsuit desgin in the first TR whilst playing but the first Eidos statue did sport the swimsuit design, which is also featured heavily in the comics....the blow statue however just has the vest top....with no flesh showing

I don't really care that it is impractical in nature, I just remember seeing all the Lara Croft models in their latex tops (even Karima Adebibe in the Union Jack top) and thinking to myself "Damn that's hot" (and I'm pretty damn sure everyone else thought the same). Yeah sure, it's impractical, but then computer games aren't meant to be realistic. It's escapism at it's best and I for one love it :-) Maybe it should be a outfit option?

cheers,

Leotard top's fit the way Lara's top does. They come up high over the hips almost up to the female waist --which is above the belt-line on most pants unless they are high-rise. Maybe some dance or sports-tops might fit that way, but usually if they gap at the waist like that, the top will work it's way toward coming untucked (into the pants). Having the top close at the bottom will prevent it riding up -- i.e. like swimsuit tops.

I don't know if I'd call it leather -- but maybe a "lamé look" or satin texture -- neither of which are especially comfortable, usually.

ai... the rubber look and over make up (gloss base) comes from C-Dynamics lack of material set textures, bumpmapping...

l actually like the classic outfit in Legend which was based on the tops the models wore, which were made of latex. However l always thought they made a mistake there somewhere when using latex tops for the models. After all the bodysuit tops like the one Lara wears in the games are usually made out of a poly cotton lycra blend, not latex which would be highly impractical. The fabric needs to stretch, breath, be fast drying and comfortable latex is none of these things. But l guess all the male fans really liked seeing the models in them

this is definitely a ribbed cotton top.....:

Cotton... not a very good choice for a globe trotting adventurer. Anyone that knows about outdoor survival knows cotton as "Death Cloth" or the "The Fabric of your death"

Once it gets wet it can make you hypothermic on even a warm day. Once wet it will dissipates heat from your body 25 times faster than normal. Infact once it gets wet your actually better off naked in even artic cold as compared to wet cotton.

Funny, I was having a conversation about various things, including what she wears, with some other people not long ago. Turned out the outfit she used to wear is a likely a "Teddy", a bodysuit much like a one-piece bathing suit. These bodysuit things come in many shapes and designs, and can have high-cut hips, hence Lara's visible thighs in the various games and renders.

For the die hard fan you could just assume she's still wearing one only it's not quite so revealing... maybe this time she pulled her shorts up a bit... One thing is about it is that unless she enjoys wearing dominatrix gear on her adventures, the top isn't PVC or rubber based. More likely polyester with nylon, and maybe elastane to make it stretchy. That would give it the appearance froma distance of being similar to PVC, hence why, obviously, in later years the various models of her have been seen wearing such uncomfortable garments.

Again, it's not about realism. Which would you rather meet. Karima Adebide in a cotton top or in a latex top? Ask yourself the same question for every other Lara model out there. I design games for a living, and sometimes realistic isn't the right way to go. Sometimes, you simply have to make fantasy a reality.

I zoomed in on a TR:A picture fo Lara and notaced her fabric top. I was really pleased. I always thought she had a fabric top from the begining, it's just the poor graphics were unable to show it so it looked like latex.

I don't know what kind of material it is, but it's not rubber, and not cotton.

I personally think the rubber top looks like an ugly 90's reject. And this is a reinvention in 2007 don't forget. We have passed into the age or pretty cotton being used for everything. I prefer the new one to the old one, being a guy i never plan to wear a latex top like that, but I would imagine it chafes' like a b**ch.

I think they used a rubber top to emulate the sheen they gave Lara's shirt in the FMV sequences.

I don't think anyone actually believes that were Lara "real," she would wear a top made of that.

I really like the turquoise bathing suit under khaki shorts idea she has in the games, because it is easily recognizable and signature as Lara. Also, making it a bathing suit makes it easier to jump in and out of water obstacles with impunity. I always thought if it was just a jade top, it should be silk, because it is the perfect clothing material for keeping one warm or cool depending on the need while adventuring, and it can be as shiny as the latex tops you see on the models.

Let's face it, there's not enough Gold Bond to keep Lara from chafing in the jungle no matter what she wears!

l always assumed it was a spandex (lycra) type bodysuit similar to a bathing suit, that was why when l first saw a picture of one of the models last year l was wondering why on earth they were wearing latex. But l suppose the models did attract the attention of the guys more in the latex version

i can prove that her shirt isnt rubber in legend

when she gets wet in her classic outfit in legend it gets dark and rubber wouldnt turn dark when it gets wet the water would just slide off :rasp:

Hasn't it occured to anybody that no matter what it looks like in the game
or what any model wears to a show, that the truth has got to be that it's some kind of high tech (maybe even top secret) fabric ideally suited to Lara's adventuring needs?
