That looks great can't wait. Now if they would show something like that with the subs.

Dutch Jester
6th Dec 2006, 04:19
okay, since you guys know more about this than me what do the different types of carriers do?

like whats is the difference between a CVE and a CV?

yes, i would like to know more about how subs work as well
as for Dutch Jester's question, i think the main difference is just size and # of planes

Dutch Jester, i found the answer to your question, escort carriers (CVE) are smaller (only 500 feet long as opposed to the about 900 foot fleet carriers of that time) they carried much less planes (only about 24 to 30 as opposed to about 80 to 100 planes on an Essex class) early escort carriers only had 1 aircraft elevator (but later they had 2) and they only had about 1/3 of the crew a fleet carrier had

Nice one princecaspian4.

It is a cool video isn't it, thanks for linking Chip

I went to a PR event held by Eidos UK this afternoon. It was on HMS Belfast, which was just awesome. I'll post an account of the event accompanied by photos tomorrow.

just so you know, if you watch game play movies 1 and 2 on the page chip linked to, they have commentary, it is just very quiet and you may have to turn the volume way up to make out what they are saying
also, all the info i got on escort carriers came from here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escort_carriers)

Dutch Jester
7th Dec 2006, 02:17
sweet thanks because i didnt know i thought they had more guns or something, so i think i like the fleet carrier better.

princecaspian4
7th Dec 2006, 02:21
yes fleet carriers are better, but escort carriers are cheaper and faster to build, so there were more of them, also i would expect that the fleet carrier would have more AA

The Japanese also had several hybrid CV/CLs. The Mogami and the Oyodo. If i remember right they should both fit in the time line of the game.

Mogami

"Built by Kure Navy Yard. Laid down 27 Oct 1931, launched 14 March 1934, completed 28 July 1935. Reconstructed 1938-1939. Regunned and rebuilt as heavy cruiser at Kure Navy Yard 1939-1940. Damaged by US aircraft and collision with Mikuma at Midway. Rebuilt as a seaplane cruiser at Kure Navy Yard 1942-1943."

Displacement: 13,670 tons trial
Dimensions: 649.5 x 66 x 19.5 feet/198 x 20 x 6 meters
Propulsion: Steam turbines, 10 boilers, 4 shafts, 152,00 shp, 35 knots
Crew: ??
Armor: 3.9-4.9 inch belt, 1.4-2.4 inch deck, 1 inch turrets
Armament: 3 dual 8/50, 4 dual 5/40 DP, 30 25 mm AA, 12 24 inch TT
Aircraft: 11 seaplanes

Concept/Program: Taking the Tone concept one step farther, this ship was rebuilt with a seaplane flight deck over the aft one-third of the ship following damage at Midway. This was intended as an emergency measure to alleviate the carrier crisis.

Design/Conversion: Originally built as a light cruiser (5 triple 6.1/50), then reconstructed to correct structural defects, then rebuilt as a heavy cruiser (5 dual 8/50). After major damage at Midway she was rebuilt with a seaplane deck over the aft 1/3 of the ship.

Operational: Probably saw little service as a seaplane ship.

Departure from Service/Disposal: Sunk at Leyte.

___________
Oyodo

Displacement: 11,433 tons full load
Dimensions: 630 x 54.5 x 19.5 feet/192 x 16.6 x 6 meters
Propulsion: Steam turbines, 6 boilers, 4 shafts, 110,000 shp, 35 knots
Crew: ??
Armor: 2 inch belt, 1.4 inch deck, 1 inch turrets
Armament: 2 triple 6.1/50 DP, 4 dual 3.9/65 AA, 12 25 mm AA
Aircraft: 6 seaplanes

Concept/Program: Originally planned as a flagship for scouting squadrons operating in support of submarine operations, with extensive command/flagship facilities. The one completed ship served as a conventional cruiser, and the remainder of the class was cancelled.

Design: Typical light cruiser design, but with extremely large catapult and hangar at the stern. She was completed with a conventional catapult in place of the larger device, and operated only two planes due to the aircraft shortage.

Modifications: Carried up to 52 25 mm AA during WWII.

Departure from Service/Disposal: Sunk in the late-war fleet destruction raids.

those sound interesting, but what i would like would be the Japanese carrier subs, essentially a sub that could carry and launch aircraft, but i am not sure if they even built one.

where are you getting your data
I got conway's all the worlds ships 1922-1946 and data from NWS's update of Fighting steel

Tone class was purpose built as a seaplane carrier for scouting for a cruiser division
Mogami was converted after this game takes place

also of note most modern(built after 1935)BB's,BC's,CA's & CL's had 1 to 6 floatplanes on board for scouting and spotting purposes
just an funny note now the japanese placed a color dye in their shells so they could give correction to the proper ship
the Yamato's color was PINK

the yamato's color was pink? for such a powerful warship, couldn't they have found a color that was a little more manly.

well it looks like we should be seeing it for 360 soon enough. And PC is said to be for the beginning of the new year. As for Aircraft carriers I never noticed much of a difference except number of planes and maybe full speed was a little higher.

As for subs what else are you guys looking for? Subs seem like the sniper class of ships to me. Thats not a bad thing mind you.

well,
i have seen the newest ingame trailer too,
but now i don`t no i buy or not because the graphics are Playstation 1 Style and the Sound and all other game effects are not so fine.

The water looks like Shader 1.0

I hope, these was a Beta Version and also not the XBOX360 Version,
because i have seen much better games for 2006 with good graphics etc.

now, ia`m still waiting for demo

I been wondering mustly for the MP games. Like how many Subs do you have control of (1 or 2 if not more, i'm sure its no more than 2)? Are they stealthy or does the other team know where they at, at all times? How about can you fight Sub vs Sub? Can you dive to crushing depth to try to get below depth charges or how about going top side and maybe useing AA guns or even cannons on the deck (I'm sure you can't just hopen)? Oh can't think of the planes off hand, but are there any that can drop bombs or anything to hit a sub or is it planes and subs are a stall mate? I would like to know more, but thats what i want to know the most i think.

Dang i'm just to Sub crazy i think.

Very vulnerable against combined defences (e.g. sonar ship combined with PT boat or anti-sub plane)

When on surface, its light AA and surface armament gives it some defence against other threats, but generally it becomes vulnerable to all other units except fighter planes

I got this from the Narwhall class hints in the war machines section, and I guess this will answer some of your questions.

Nice thanks, I looked there not to long ago and forgot about that part since. Also don't think they had the info i was looking for on the Subs back than.

Yet for now thats great news. Just need to get the rest answered.

i know what you mean, once as a joke when my clan leader left on a holiday, we changed the colors to bright pink and yellow, it would actually shine the colors were so bright, the clan leader came back and saw us playing in this color scheme and had a fit (because he had done custom colors for the clan and it had taken him an hour to get it perfect) and while he was gone we scared off a new recruit to the clan with that color scheme

Neroman
7th Dec 2006, 23:06
lol thats funny ****.

My "2nd in command" got pissed at me after i tried to show the clan my idea for the new color scheme. He said i never asked the sqd. But he changed them too and i never got a message it was ok. And they look like **** now -.- so i use my own.

Again,if this game 'ends' at Midway, there should not even be 'Essex' class carriers in this game. (USS Essex CV 9) was not even commissioned until Dec. of 1942.

Here is a good link for Jeep Carriers (http://www.chinfo.navy.mil/navpalib/ships/carriers/cv-escrt.html)

your right, the 3 american carriers in the game (at least the ones listed on the war machines page) are the Lexington and Saratoga (Lexington class) and the Yorktown (Yorktown class)
