Which versions of Legend have gone gold so far?

Tomb Raider Legend has gone gold.... that`s bad news!!! I mean... without a PC DEMO the game gone gold? That`s a big risk that Eidos took! PC VERSION can have a lot of bugs and those bugs I'm afraid will be fixed with a PATCH and I guess a PATCH for PC will be release in MAY!!! You`ll see!!!

Too bad!!!

I fail to see what difference it would have been if the demo had been released. It's not like they didn't get the PC version beta tested already, you know.

Plus, if anything this may ensure we'll get a demo completely bug-free.

The newer consoles have hard drives and internet connections. I'm not sure, but it might be possible to patch games on the X-box 360 or PS3. Does anyone have definite knowledge one way or the other? I'm curious now.

I'm not sure of the statistics, but judging from what I've heard, it sold quite well, but received bad reviews. So financially it did okay, but it's reputation took a beating. Not sure though. I don't think it sold as well as the previous games though.

That doesn't necessarily means AoD sold 1,000,000 units. Eidos has (or at least use to have) a "Platinum Series". For example; Tomb Raider:The Lost Artifact came in a box marked "Platinum Collection". At the time it just meant you could buy the game for under $20 (US).

Speaking of which, I hope Legend brings back the times of the Gold expansions. I'd love some more PCness in the series, and the expansion packs still remain big favorites of mine, especially The Lost Artifact and Unfinished Business, although I just finished replaying The Golden Mask and what a great game that was! Pity the expansion for The Last Revelation never got produced, and I don't even think there was talk for the later games. :(

Well the 'Gold' expansions became 'custom' levels. So, if we don't have a level editor, then I guess it's possible we may go back to the 'Gold' expansions.

My my, more conjecture in one forum than you can shake a stick at!! :D

So did I, until I read this interview with Gary LaRochelle (maniac44 above):

Ian: "The Lost Artifact. Basically, you built it. I love it; it's undoubtedly my favourite of the Gold games and, IMO, more enjoyable than TR3 (the game it was designed as an Add-on for). What was your actual role in its construction?"

Gary: "Three of us put Lost Artifact together. Phil Campbell (who designed all of the Gold levels), Rebecca Shearin (who did all of the textures for the Gold games) and myself. I took care of new 3D shapes and their textures, some of the environmental textures, the interface splash screens, the manual and ad art. I also modified some of the shapes from TR3 and made new things from them. For example: the worker in the orange jumpsuits. They used to be the security guards with batons. The Highland warriors use to be the South Pacific native. We all put our heads together for the storyline/level layouts. We also started working on the TR4 Gold levels then the plug got pulled on the project."

Ian: "OH! You have to tell me more!! What type of levels were you hoping to create? Egyptian, or were you planning on sending her somewhere new? You don't happen to have saved any of the 'work in progress', by any chance?"

Gary: "It was going to be Lara Croft in the Caribbean. We could have levels relating to New Orleans (Voodoo, Mardi Gras, Cemeteries), Port Royal Jamaica (Pirates. There's a very interesting history to Port Royal. It was THE pirate hang out in the late 1600's. Half of the city sank beneath the bay in an earthquake. Would have made for a very cool level), and the Bermuda Triangle. There are no surviving art/models from that effort.

I've always wanted to try the GOLD series and always wondered why they didn't make'em for the PS-ONE...now I know why. O well. (say, does it come with any new cutscenes and FMVs and stuff:confused: )

Nope, just HUGE levels. Usually double the size of a regular level in any of the TR games.

Hmm...I've played the expansions for TR1 and TR2, which don't have any cutscenes, but I haven't managed to track down Lost Artifact yet. In the article you posted above, it said Lost Artifact had a storyline. I don't know how that's possible if there aren't any cutscenes, so did I misread that?

@Joshorty- if you have the PC versions of TR1 and TR2, you can download the expansion levels for free here:

The storyline was a continuation of the story line from TR3. The details of the new storyline can be found in the manual that comes with Lost Artifact (on the CD). Since there were only three people or less working on the Gold Levels and the development times were very limited, there was no time to make cut scenes.

Well, the manual itself has a two and half page long story, segmented into 5 chapters named as the 5 main levels of the game. Cutscenes don't have such important role, they're fun to watch yes, and much better than reading, but they're not needed.

I'll see if I can dig out the story for you, but it's about Willard and the fifth artifact of the meteorite.

Even Unfinished Business and The Golden Mask had their own storylines. They're not just a handfull of levels thrown together, and I think both Golden Mask and The Lost Artifact turn out to be more enjoyable than the original games these expansions were based on. :)

Hi Gary!

I remember seeing sketches for a possible intro cutscene of the golden mask (where she's typing on a computer looking for more info on the mask of tornarsuk), do you know where I could find those?

There was a member gathering these a while back, but we haven't heard of her in a while and the links she gave are now dead. Wish I had saved them back then.

Pity the expansion for The Last Revelation never got produced. :(

But it did... it was called "Tomb Raider: Chronicles" They just decided to rip people off and charge full price for it and market it as a true sequel even though it offered nothing new and didn't have as deep a story as TLR.

Ok, so I'm in a sarcastic mood....

When a game "goes gold" That means the game is finalized and a master copy is sent out to be put into mass production.

The other thing that people are talking about are the "Gold" versions of the TR games. Which were special editions to some of the games that were made.

Theres:
*TR and TR Gold
*TR2 and TR2 Gold
*TR3 and The Lost Artifact (which is a stand alone expansion to TR3)
*TR Last Revelation and TR Last Revelation Platinum Collection , TR Last Revelation: Millennium Edition
*TR Chronicles and TR Chronicles Platinum Collection
*TR Angel Of Darkness
*TR Legend

If there are more versions im not sure. I know these for fact because i have all of them, except for TR Last Rvelation: Millennium Edition, which i have been looking for a new copy for years.

Trin, what do you get with the TR4 and TR5 'Platinum' packages? :)

There's a possible misunderstanding on your post, the Gold versions included expansions on the originals, the add-ons (Unfinished Business for TR1, The Golden Mask for TR2 and The Lost Artifact for TR3), but there were several other re-releases of the games, such as the Platinum, Millennium and you name it edition. :)

TR Gold is the full TR1 game and includes the "Unfinished Business" levels.
TR2 Gold is the full TR2 game and includes the "Golden Mask" levels.

But the other editions: Platinum series, and Millennium dont include anything different as far as the game goes. No new levels, nothing. The Millennium edition included a puter statue of Lara and the Platinum series games disks are either chrome looking(as are my TR4 and TR5) or they are blue with a chrome strip that says "Eidos Platinum Collection"

But thats about it.

I think I know the drawings you're talking about. But I don't know where they would be nowadays.
Phil wanted to do some cut scenes for TR2 Gold so as to tell a better story. But there was no time or budget for doing that.

Yes games can be and have been patched using online connections on the xbox 360. Its alot easier than the pc too. As soon as the disc is inserted and the console recognizes that theres an update it automatically downloads without you having to do anything. Usually takes 20 seconds at the most
