View Full Version : Help viewing textures clearly

Hi all, I'm new to this. Just started using Thief 2 level editor.
My problem is that the textures are of poor quality while in the editing screen (they show up normal when I hit Alt + G), so it's difficult to make a good selection for a texture. Also, the names are smushed together so I can't really read them either. It sounds like a resolution problem, but everything else in the editor window is an appropriate size.
Any ideas?

To correct the texture view, open the file user.cfg and add put the following on a new line:
edit_screen_depth 16

As for the Texture Palette, there is a way to make it a bit bigger:
If the palette is visible, turn it off (alt-T).

If you look at the 4 view windows, you'll notice a thin black gap between them, forming a + shape. If you click and drag the gap, you'll be able to resize the windows. If you drag the horizontal part, or the centre, you'll be able to make the bottom two windows bigger.
If you then bring back the Texture Palette, there will be more room for it.

To restore the size of the 4 veiws, turn off the texture palette and from the View menu select 'Re-center dividers'.

Being new at this, you may want to try Komag's Dromed Tutorial
('Komag_Tut_v2' from this website (http://www.keepofmetalandgold.com/essentials.htm)

You should also check out The Editor's Guild at TTLG (http://www.ttlg.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=85). It's much more active than here and has tons of threads you can search through for answers to this any many other common questions, as well as a FAQ Thread (http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87962).

Thank you so much R Soul, the textures are so much better now. The texture titles still don't have enough room, but that doesn't matter now that I can see the textures themselves, and when I click on one, the name is on the bottom of the screen anyway.

I haven't had a chance to look at the tutorials yet, but I will use them soon!
Thanks to you both,
