 Thanks to the designers of all the Thief series.

Im not sure if Eidos is going to make another installment but I hope they will, there is a lot of stuff in this kind of medieval genre that hasn't been touched yet.

If the producers and designers are seeing this I would like to make the suggestion of including flintlock firearms into this kind of game. Electronic devices (such as lights and elevators) was a wonderful invention. I do wonder how come robotics came before firearms? And now with Thief: Deadly Shadows we are killing monsters and goblins and such. Perhaps the imagination took a vacation.

There is truely nothing more fun than real life, and a video game should reflect that to some degree. While I do in real life deal with a variety of "interesting" individuals, none classify as "undead". Perhaps almost dead, but not undead. In the Thief series, the games you steal from/kill people are the most fun. Or maybe I'm just getting old.

A flintlock includes parts such as powder, ammuntion, and flints that could be purchased or stolen. This would be kind of cool in the Thief series, if it could be like the original, without robotics, monsters, ghouls etc.

Please make another Thief
Please don't have monsters
Please have a flintlock

I'll spend a lot of money on another one if you do

Hmmm, I suspect the board will disagree. My opinion is that a gun is not very sneaky. Firing a gun would alert an entire town, castle, or other environment to ol Garret's presence.

On the real life angle, I prefer a game that offers a different spin on life. I think games that are not firmly rooted in reality benefit a lot. I like escaping to an environment where I don't exactly know what to expect. That's just me though...

Guns, Gawd forbid. This is not the wild west, nor the age of firearms. The mechanist items were acceptable if taken with a large grain of salt.

The reduction of "Electro-mechanical" stuff in TDS was a step in the right direction.

Overall, from my perspective, TDP was about as mechanical as I would like to see THIEF.

In my never humble opinion:
TMA was not too big a stretch with Karras and his crew and the "lost" technical advances of the "Precursors". But advances beyond this would soon have us in System Shock, Unreal or Doom.

Guns and other such would not be in the best interests of advancing the appeal of the basic tenets of the THIEF atmosphere.

But I could buy it if the new elite police troops had "this new invention - fire sticks!" or whatever. But certainly not as a player weapon.

Plus, the tech for guns is sort of implied by the fire exploding barrels in thief 1/2, presumably some kind of blasting powder or gun powder. And Garrett does have mines and fire arrows, already noisy. So it's not THAT big a stretch in that world

Thief with Guns..No thank you.
The reason I love Thief is not a Gun in sight.
The use of "Gunpowder" is feasible,as it was around a long time before guns.
The early Guns took two people to use them,a lot killed themselves in the process. Poor Thief's would find it hard to even find a Gun In Mediaeval times.
It is the very reason why I love Thief it is Sneaky.Garrett is sneaky.
He only, uses mines and Bombs Where needs must.I think parts of T2 were to Mechanical.
Thief is so different purely for the fact it has so much Atmosphere, and is different, and unusual!.
The game would end rather quickly if he shot everything in sight. Then had a clean run to "Thieve". How Boring. :)
I have just started Playing the Fan Missions.I am finding them highly entertaining and atmospheric.

There is gunpowder in the games in exploding barrels, but characters actually having guns sounds like a tacky chliche to me.

*sigh*

Another...put guns in thief thread. :( I just don't get it. Aren't there enough games with guns? Why make Thief like every other game out there? Thief 3 got a good dose of the mediocrity makeover...I'll have spent nearly a year and a half of my life trying to undo a lot of it.

Currently, I'm working on getting a holy water arrow system that is similar to the originals. I have a working holy water arrow...but I just have to find a way to only make it active when you use the holy water flask. Lots of trial and error.

I could not agree more.About the Guns.Although I like many would love another Thief. In the Original vain.
Now I have played them all,I found the first Two had more detail to them.I thought the original "holy water arrows" were excellent.
That sounds good.
I have only started playing the Fan Missions, getting so hooked on them.

@ c6jones72.
I did not word that very well.
I knew there was Gunpowder in the Thief series.I have played them.It seems more realistic,as it was around then.
Guns would ruin Thief Completely.

If you want to sneak around with a gun in your hand, go play Hitman. A flintlock is not gonna make someone a better thief.

Garrett already has enough fire power without having to have a flintlock too.
He has mines and fire arrows that can do more damage which makes the idea of him needing a flintlock out of the question.

What if Garrett's gun was so heavy that it slowed him down in the same way that carrying a body does?

The player would have two choices: be slow but powerful (though not well protected) or be fast but not powerful.

The answer is no :p
Most of us are here because we like Thief. The first thing that struck me about Thief that it included a number of items that were not guns.

I agree with Komag... I could handle the cops having some sort of firearm, but with Garrett it'd be really ridiculous.

Garrett's a sneaksie thief, not a "M-m-m-m-m-monster kill" one-man wrecking crew cyborg-terminator. ;)

When it comes to guns in a game, Soldier of Fortune is the best-ULTRA realistic damage! :D

Guns aren't very sneaky and garret isn't a killer he's according to me the most stylish game character ever made :) , and he's not a killer he's a thief he avoids violence and being detected don't make him another snake or a sam fisher, don't get me wrong I don't dislike them but I don't see the need for another character like that around, Garret is unique the thief series are unique so keep them that way.
About the monsters I think they're not that bad as long as they don't overdo it, they scared the living daylights out of me, especially in the nuthouse :).
And I sure hope they continue making these games.

You can also let Sam Fisher sneak his way through most of the missions he does without having to kill anyone,so I wouldn't use him as an example.

Zombies have been in this series since Dark Project. So monsters are not new and exclusive to Deadly Shadows.

BrokenArts

Really?????

Xistemi

If that was sarcasm, then ignore my reply. :)

It has been a long time since I played Dark Project, but I definitely remember Zombies, as there was a way to bless your noraml water arrows into holy water arrows that could be used against the undead.

This game has always had monsters, the undead included. I don't exactly consider a guy made of plants ripping out your eye all that normal either. So, the idea of zombies and monsters in this series is not new. It has been there since the beginning.

The original poster implied that killing monsters was an idea brought into the series by Deadly Shadows and that no such monsters existed before Deadly Shadows. I was merely pointing out that the supernatural has existed in the series since the first game.

As for guns, they would be as of much use as the Fire Arrows are. I never use Fire Arrows as they are noisy and draw attention. And the point of the game is to not do that. So, unless silencers were invented at the same time, :) guns do not belong in this series.

However I do think it is silly that an unaware opponent can be killed with one arrow, while one aware of your presence takes as many as three. how does knowing you're there help defend against an arrow?

Yes, sarcasm, can't help it. It's second nature for me, and in my blood.

99.9% of the taffers around here are very well aware of zombies. ;)
