Hitman and Tomb Raider Held Back

Cheers as SCi takes over Eidos and holds top games back to make them not-rubbish.

Gamers eager to handle Agent 47's piano wire again are going to have to sit tight until next year. Eidos has confirmed that both Hitman: Blood Money and Lara Croft's new outing, Tomb Raider: Legend, have been delayed until early 2006.

But while the hold-up is disappointing, it does have its advantages.

The delays mean that gamers can expect better experiences from the next Hitman and Tomb Raider games. Eidos told MCV that the games have been given more time in development to "maximise their hit potential".

Lara's last game, Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness was widely believed to have been rushed out to meet financial demands and it suffered as a result, earning poor reviews and passing by many game buyers.

The delays will, however, particularly annoy Hitman fans who have seen the new instalment's release slip by nearly a year from its original spring date.

If it's any consolation to anyone, Half Life 2 was delayed for some time till we were finally graced with its appearance, and believe me; it was well worth the wait. ;)

I made a similar comment on our own forum when this was posted. We know Eidos are planning to roll out Legend in Winter, but so far they haven't said anything else.

A 2006 debut is likely, but until Eidos or SCi announce a release date themselves, I won't be reporting this. It would appear at this point to be speculation.

The company representing Eidos in Spain has sent a report to the press. According to this report, Tomb Raider Legend and Just Cause will be released in 2006. Hitman Blood Money will be released this year for the PlayStation 2, X-box and PC.

Exactly.

And, how can it be 'delayed' when no confirmed date has ever been announced? (and even then...) That's just word-scare-mongering. Has the word patience disappeared from dictionaries across the globe? :p

XBox Advanced (http://xbox.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=5274) is now reporting the same thing, citing their source to be MCV (http://www.mcvuk.com/index.php). I was unable to find anything on MCV in relation to this. It may just be a little blurb from their print material and they decided not to put it online.

I just find it odd that they would release this information on a weekend. They should be home sleeping - I know I would be. ;)

EDIT:
Found this blurb (http://biz.gamedaily.com/features.asp?article_id=9864&filter=) from last month. Not as specific as people are citing, but it makes the idea seem more plausible.

"Another important aspect of integrating the two businesses is the reorganization of the publishers' product release schedule. 'SCi is working with the development teams for all Eidos products to determine the most appropriate release schedule. We believe it is essential that all products are given sufficient time to maximize the quality of the final product. This review process is continuing and we will make announcements about release dates at the appropriate point. This process will mean that certain Eidos titles, including Tomb Raider Legend, may be released later than the dates previously indicated by Eidos before its acquisition by SCi. In addition we will review the release dates of new SCi titles in the light of the combined release schedule,' the company explained."

Hang on, the article states that TRL has been delayed until early 2006.
I thought that this was the release window anyway!

Riley Cooper stated 'Winter'.
This is the only reference to a release window that I have heard from an official source.

Winter = 21st December 2005 > 20th March 2006

They should take the ID approach, i.e. It's done when it's done!
