View Full Version : Important: Official TR7 Whining Thread!

Oh, god I had hoped this wouldn't start again so soon! The terrible time we had here before, during and after poor AOD isn't even healed and it's starting again???

I suggest that this be the only ONE thread where whining over delays of information/launch/whatever be allowed, with all other threads started for that purpose being locked or deleted immediately, to save us all from a repeat of the horrible suffering that soured so many fans to the forums and the games and the companies involved.

Remember when whining, the TOU still applies, and absolutely no slam posts.

Thanks.

Yes, this is a great idea! Then we can come in here kicking and screaming when we feel the need!

I fully endorse the submission, although the demographic historically has exhibited a predominant penchant for remaining ignorantia iuris as to anything entitled 'important' and 'official'. Alas, 'who complains without cause, let a cause be made for him' has diligently been sustained pre any prior Tomb Raider release.

Just curious, its just past 11 am on the 15th here in Eastern Aus. did anyone actually hear anything about TR7 yesterday? I "surfed the net" and found nothing :(

I haven't seen anything mum. :(

Great idea for a thread.. I'm sure it will be very popular. :) The only thing I want to whine about is the fact that Eidos releases a statement but never keeps us informed if media gets delayed. I'm talking about the press release stating we would see tr media in autumn. It just gets fustrating when you keep on hoping to see something then it never actually comes. I guess the key phrase to remember here is..."I'll believe it when I see it".... :)

Next Tomb Raider to debut at E3 2005
by Tom Bramwell

The next Tomb Raider game will debut at E3 2005, according to publisher Eidos, speaking at last week's Game Stars Live show, although there's no firm word on a release date at the moment - despite recent reports that the publisher was aiming to ship in summer 2005 at around the end of its financial year.

The next Tomb Raider game, still without an official subtitle, is currently in development at US-based Crystal Dynamics, rather than original architects Core Design, although Eidos recently announced that Toby Gard, the series' original character designer, would be returning to the fold to work on the next Tomb Raider following the commercial disappointment of his own title Galleon.

Doubtless more details on Tomb Raider will leak out before next May's Californian trade show, but in the meantime Eidos is keeping schtum about gameplay details. All we know is that CEO Mike McGarvey saw it in March and was "extremely impressed," despite not being in a position "to articulate the creative direction of the franchise". We reckon it probably involves exploration, puzzles and shooting animals.

Whatever - we'll bring you more on Tomb Raider as soon as we hear it.

New Tomb Raider at next E3

Posted by Tenchi on 09-06-2004 at 03:09 AM

Eidos Interactive announced that they plan to unveil the next Tomb Raider game at E3 2005. The game will be developed by Crystal Dynamics instead of the original developer, Core Design. No other details were released, but we'll have more details come next May.

Then it is time you start whining about it! :D

Make a new thread about how late AOD was, and how that now is making you suffer the lack of will to whine about TR 7 being late! ;)

Try to make it into a legal case if you can: "AOD ruined my life, I'm never going to play it" :p

whine, whine, whine... the new Lara looks like a comic porn start so this gets me worried about the type of game we will end up with, the screens look good to me and i hope we wont end up with another AOD.
I'm skeptical about the future of TR gaming due to what has happened to everything L. Croft related, i just want a good and challenging adventure game really...keep her cloths on and make the best adventure/platform/puzzle solving game ever!

I have to whine about the lack of Lara's 'assets'. How can Eidos diminish the original appeal of Lara? I played the very original on the PS1 and the main attraction was the extremely feminine Lara Croft. Her shapely figure was completely unique. What I want to see in the next adventure is her round curves emphasized and developed. Her body should have the best physics and animation ever seen. However, in the latest trailer, she seems as stiff as a statue. When I play Tomb Raider, I don't want to play as a robot. If Eidos wants to see the success it once had with the original Tomb Raider, they must ignore the ever shrinking PC (politically correct) crowd. They don't play video games anyway. Give us the woman we want.

There was nothing round in TR1.
I agree that Lara was very polygonal, but that was the limitation on the PS1. She was a bit more round in the cutscenes though.

Having seen VG Chicks like the DOA girls and PN03, we know that we can get past the statuesque Lara. I'd like to see Lara beat the others, but it doesn't look very good so far.

I do like her new face, however. I also like the shape of her body, accept for the smaller bra size.

Sophia Leigh
4th May 2005, 00:28
I personally think that the new Lara is a great improvement and as Goran said "There was nothing round in TR1". The only strange thing I have noticed is the proportion of her calf muscles in the shot where she is standing in front of the waterfall.

Lara is more realistic now, the TR1 Lara looked like she had had a very odd, triangular boob-job.

intrepid_soul
4th May 2005, 16:19
Actually TR1 was a PC title that was ported to the PS1. At the time that was round, I recently downloaded the demo for TR1 it is amazing where we have been and where we are now.

Last time I checked, Crystal Dynamics ENHANCED the appeal of Lara Croft. She's more woman than ever. And for those of you complaining about her lack of clothing... An adventurer has to travel light! Therefore, less clothes = less weight to lug around. :D J/k. ;)

Stiff as a statue? How do you figure? Lara's movements are more fluid and realistic than any other TR game...

Strange how a lot of people just accept Tomb Raider Legend as it is, well I demand more for my money, and if it doesn't come up to my expectations, I won't be very happy.

And if you think i'm being a little hard on this game, then realise I already bought AOD and Thief 3, and I was very disappointed. AOD, well we all know what happened there, but Thief 3 still refuses to run on my PC. I just want what I pay for, thats not asking too much is it?

Truth be known, I haven't really seen anything yet that impresses me about 'Legend' but as i've said, I'll reserve judgement till I've played it. ;)

I doubt I'd buy this for the PC since it's supposedly going to be a launch title for the XBox 360. I try to play console games more since it's much easier to deal with. Just drop in the game and play. It looks really good so far. I'm really looking forward to this game.

Great column I might have to visit again!!!

To avoid the possibility of 6 or more months of whining, surely
the beta testing of Legend is done and those at Eidos can let us
know a release date for each platform. Some official word
would be nice Eidos people....please

To avoid unnecessary corporate rivalry( worse than politics I think )
each version PS2 XBOX and other platforms should be released simultaneously, as close as is possible for each type
to avoid confusion and support public acceptance... Im not saying
Lara isnt popular, just that I for one will be a bit annoyed if
Xbox releases and not PS2.

Cheers / Chris

Huh. I really thought the main attraction was exploring, adventuring, solving puzzles, etc. If you just wanted to look at T&A, wouldn't a subscription to Playboy or Penthouse be a better investment? (I don't know about you, but polygons don't really turn me on.)

I think what was meant was that since they game is played in 3rd person, the character may as well be nice to look at.

I don't notice Lara's looks at all.. I'm too busy looking at the environments. That is what pulls me into a game... the industrial rooftops level in AOD about put me to sleep.... as long as the environment has a lot of stimulation I will be happy. :)

CatSuit&Ponytail

You all already know I find the looks of my avatar very important. I can play Jedi Knight in third person, but prefer it in first person because the main character's 3d model is so ugly! :D I don't want to be him for several weeks while I play the game! ;)

I notice every detail about a good character model when I play. I notice the rise and fall of the chest while he/she breathes, the slight motions of the head and hands, the way certain things clip or not, the textures added to the frame, the way the face changes or doesn't to stimuli, the clothes/armour upgrades I aquire, the idle animations.....it's all important to me. And this coming from the girl who still plays text adventures and old DOS graphic adventures.

If a character looks good, well constructed and suiting the character's personality, it adds a LOT to my enjoyment of a game. This in no way makes it ok to sell me a crappy game with nice wrapping. ;)

Ditto!
Let's be honest, Lara looked pretty bad in TR1, with her pixelated triangle breasts and whatnot. But did it ruin the game? Not at all. The locations were what mattered (and even though they were also pretty shabby looking by today's standards, they were still more interesting than industrial rooftops and vacant city streets.)

Not judged by the standards of the time. She has always been beautiful, each incarnation is as beautiful as pixels get when they are created.

I never got to play any TR except for TR3 and AoD. SO here I'll comment on TR3.

First I thought lara was amazing! But after Aod, I don't. WHen Lara did the handstand in the older games, her waist was like triangular lines. I now thick she must have a triangular stomach and other organs too. LOLZZZ! :D :D :D

Aod's handstand is MUCH better, than in the older TR's, of course. Or that's what I think.

Is there any hope that they will pull back the date to like august or something, or are they just going to stick to December 31st of this year? If they are then for that, might as well just release it next year! But then again they need to get everything right.

Does anyone know who is going to get the game first? Doesn't US get the game first, or is it UK? I think that one of the two gets it first... because one of the two usually gets it first. But I'm pretty sure that it's usually the US that gets the games first, depending on which gaming company is creating the game.... But I think that the UK is going to get it first since Eidos is supposedly in the UK.

If my memory serves me correctly, AOD was released in the United States first and then in dribs and drabs throughout the rest of the world. We didn't get it here in Oz for about 3-4 months afterwards. Funnily enough it suited me quite well ... after reading all the grizzling that went on in the forum about technical problems with the game (I play on PC) I decided to wait a few months until patches, etc., were available until I finally bought the game and by then it was on "special" for half the price.

Oh. Well I heard that the UK got it first... Then we got it. Lol I feel bad for you guys in Australia because the game that I've played that recently came out, Mortal Kombat: Deception, you guys were the last to get it. Why can't they release a game simutaneously instead of one country at a time. It's not fair to the other people who want to play the game. And in the even that you just so happen to stumble across a walkthru, it makes, well I don't know about you guys but it does me, you more eager for the game to come out than you most likely already are.

I think that if they were to realease it all at the same time, then no one would be left behind. Is there any particular reason why they don't release games at the same time?

Laraman
19th Jun 2005, 16:36
AOD was released first in the US (around the first week of June [so they got an incorrect manual and very buggy game]), then Europe (mid-June [we got a correct manual and much less buggy game]) and then in other places.

Altho', if Eidos want the most money, they'd be best releasing worldwide. Or if they want country by country (or continent by continent) might as well go for UK or Europe. A game in the US is $50, a game in the UK is £40. In the UK, even with slightly lower sales than in the US, Eidos would make more money from us, as £40 = $73, and well $50 = $50.

So, 1,000,000 copies in the UK at £40 would be £40,000,000 (excluding royalty fees to Microsoft and Sony). £40,000,000 = $73,000,000. A million copies in the US at $50, would be $50,000,000 (again excluding the royalty fees to Sony and Microsoft). It takes roughly 687,500 copies of one game sold in the UK to generate the same amount of money 1,000,000 copies of a game sold in the US.

But, if they're going by the size of country/continent and how much possible sales they may generate, as the US has a bigger population, Eidos would release TRL there first, and then all over the world.

But, if they want to keep everyone happy, which, they probably do want, they'd release it worldwide. Ummm... what was this topic about?

I don't want to have to wait longer than everyone else (patiences isn't my strong point :D ) I am really excited about this game so I want it as soon as it is released. I'll get it on playstation first so I don't have to worry about tech problems. I had no idea about these forums when AOD was released but in 2003 I did find it frustrating going into the game shop and being told that AOD wouldn't be released until June and then going back again in June and being told that I had to wait until August. Now that I have all this extra information at hand I'm going to go insane if they make us Aussies wait that long :( .

I think it looks more like a pro , all the new animations makes lara look more like a pro actually , in the previous games she was always moaning and grunting and takes forever to climb ledges (it was really horrible specially in timed stuff when you are about to die) like its her first time to climb a ledge so , i don't think they are bad at all.
