Given that it looks like an Xbox patch is not forthcoming, how much harder is hard versus normal difficulty? Would you have enjoyed the game if only the normal difficulty had been provided?

Put it this way: The hardest mode in Thief 3 was in line with the easiest mode in Thief 2 if you were ghosting, if that.

I'm guessing that by that you mean "Is it stupidly easy anyway then?", in which case the answer is a definite yes.

I think it has a lot to do with the placement of enemies. In Thief 2 you had guards blocking off stairways with un-extinguishable lights; not all locked doors could be picked, some you had to find a specific guard with a certain key to open. Thief 3 has none of this. Also, whenever a guard saw you proper, he wouldn't just decide after 30 seconds that there was no-one around anymore; he'd keep searching high and low, often in your general direction (unlike the TDS enemies which blunder around in any old place hoping to stumble across you) and would probably alert a couple of his friends. Plus there was no wall flattening. But that's just the beginning of it. It's a meaty issue, make no mistake.
