No online body-slamming for Backyard Wrestling 2

Eidos reveals that its taboo-tweaking brawler will no longer have online functionality.
If you were looking forward to smashing opponents online in Backyard Wrestling 2: There Goes the Neighborhood, prepare to be body-slammed. Eidos quietly informed the press today that the controversy-courting PlayStation 2 and Xbox wrestler will not have its previously promised head-to-head online play, which would have allowed for trash-talking via headsets.

"Backyard Wrestling 2: There Goes the Neighborhood for the PS2 and Xbox will ship on to retail on November 16 in the US, without the online component, and will hit store shelves in time for the holiday season," was the only statement from the company.

However, even without online play, Backyard Wrestling 2 still has many things to offer: Players can play as porn star Tera Patrick, rocker Andrew WK, or assorted members of the Insane Clown Posse. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

NO ONLINE PLAY?! Why Eidos why? Online play was the best feauture BW2 had going for it. What's up with Eidos with removing online play from their games? First TimeSplitters 2 and now Backyard Wrestling 2. I will still be buying it because I am a fan of the series, but that means I'll be spending my online wrestling time on THQ's WWE Smackdown Vs Raw.

Why o why, say it isn't true. I have to go out and buy wwe game to play online. Eidos, if you have to please fix this, online game play is essintial to this game with the wwe games stepping it up with online game, I fill you guys need to bring back this feature to stay competitve with the other games. I preordered the game but now I am thinking about going back and getting wwe now or rumble roses and waiting till this game goes down to $19.99 a year from now. I bought the last game the day it came out and I loved it but I was so looking forward to online wrestling, this was going to add so much more depth to the game. Eidos hear our cries we want online game play. Push back the release if you need time to get the servers up, we can wait. We waited this long.

It would be nice if they did fix this. But if they dont oh well it aint no big deal to me because i dont have a net work adaptor to go online to play and at this point would not waste my money to play online for BYW 2 because they have already pissed me off by first setting back the date. But to set back the date again no way in hell would i get the game then if they set it back again then i will not buy the game. I will go get my money back for reserving it and will not buy the game to later on in the future. I want this game bad and loved the first one, and i have been waiting so long for the 2nd one but if they set the date back again im not geting the 2nd one for the fact that they set the date back 1 time already and to do it a 2nd time no way. So i hope that they dont set the date back because if they do they are definetly loosing a fan of the byw series. I will just buy the game when its dirt cheep if they do. Peace.

eidos here me,if you didnt have icp on this game i would laugh at you for making it! you promise your fans online play for months and then pull it,you suck, you put a half done piece of crap so u dont have to put any more work into you people could learn alot from rockstar north, when making a game dont just put it out not done, finish it!!!!! put care in what u do!not how much you make, i would have waited months extra for the online play.i will still buy your "unfinshed game" but as an insane clown posse collectors item,NOT A QUALITY WRESTLING GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!no about nerds....

Very well put noonline, you make an excellent point, it seems that Eidos is just trying to rush this game to market to make money from the big christmas selling season. Eidos you could learn from rockstar, they had the game midnight club 3 all set to go this christmas season ; big write up in magazines, a few cover story even, special on g4 tv and lots more press. Everyone was hungry for the game. Now if rockstar didn't really care about the games they make or the players of their games, then they would just rush the product out before christmas to make a lot of money and stuff their fat wallets, but the push the release date back to after christmas around January, because they want to make a quality game for their players and fans of the game. I am not saying Eidos doesn't care about their consumers, but come one guys if you really want to establish a quality franchise and game with byw, please take the time to make it right and make it for the fans of the game, add something you have been promising for months back to the game.

Believe me when I say I understand your frustration folks. I can't tell you how angry we were to find online had been yanked. I don't know the reasons why, and I'm not going to speculate.

Anyways, just wanted to pop in with my 2 cents.
