I repainted Garrett's arms and hands to look more like what I think a master thief would wear. Arms reflect light better than cloth, and showing off his arms would make Garrett more visible to guards. I think Garrett would more realistically wear something like this, and, logic aside, I think this looks a whole lot cooler:

This isn't just some ten-minute job, I spent over 20 hours completely repainting the textures and normal maps for Garrett's arms. As a result, they will dynamically reflect light from the wrinkles in the sleeves, just like the rest of Garrett's outfit. I took the liberty of fixing some spots where the official textures were screwed up (ever looked at the back of Garrett's arms while lit from behind, especially the lower left one? Yikes!)

You can download the new textures here. (http://technicae.net/thief.zip)

You'll need to insert the textures yourself, but that's all spelled out step-by-step in the included README file.

Enjoy! If you have any technical problems with this, let me know.

cool.

You know the funny thing is in the cutscenes garretts arms are always covered but in the missions there not.

I'm about to download now.

I'd just like to say how much it amazes me, how many members of the Thief community that are willing to give up there own time to make the play experiance better for others. Thief 3's only been out for 2 weeks, and already we've got people slaving away at creating their own patches. Here's hoping someone over at Ion takes a hint.

I believe they made the aesthetic change late in development. I don't think it was a change for the better, thus the re-skin ;)

Probably. I should get out the original previews for the game when they just announced third person I believed arms were covered there. Garrett also didn't have that huge unsightly scar in the original concept either.
