and the lighting problem is a "known issue". I suspect we'll be waiting for the 4.7 drivers for this to be fixed.

I think known issue is only for X800 chipset
"....Inconsistent lighting and shadow flicker is noticed when playing the game Thief 3 under Windows XP with an ATI RADEON X800 XT Platinum Edition or the RADEON X800 PRO..."
so i guess no worry"s about younger models:p ,i'll try them tomorow with 9800Pro:rolleyes:

ATI AIW 9800 Pro, I installed Catalyst 4.6 and played through a mission. No change as far as the flickering shadows goes. But then I had that issue with Catalyst 4.4 and that was supposed to correct it.

sticking with 4.4s I guess. Too bad, I hear these 4.6s give large across the board performance increases.

I installed them and they worked fine, no flickering shadows. Then, as usual, Thief crashed my computer and I had to stop playing. &*(^%*&^&*!

Thief lighting problems aren't just on the X800. As we all know it affects most ATI cards at this time.

Just stick with 4.4 Drivers till they get this worked out. Hopefully sooner than later.

Yes 4.6 has increased my BF Vietnam FPS I feel. Haven't really tried other games.

:-/

They'll get it soon.

I've downloaded them, but won't have time to install them and play the game for another hour or so.

anyone else try them out yet? I'm runing omega drivers based on 4.5 so I'm hesitant to switch.

Across the board performance increases? Gosh I hope so, it'd be great to get a steady frame rate on this... dynamic shadows are nice but large areas tend to give me a bit of a slowdown.

Installed them, haven't tried them out yet, I'm so happy the BFV issue has finally been fixed in this driver. Performance issues in Thief 3 with shadows and stuff is just the way the game was designed, I just dont' think its optimized as well as it could be.

Only with the ATI RADEON X800 XT Platinum Edition or the RADEON X800 PRO? Pfft, Yeah right. I have a Radeon 9700 Pro and the walls constantly constantly flicker and flash.

Guys! Use the Catalyst 4.4 drivers and you won't have any more flickering. Many people have tried it, including myself and it works.

ATI is aware of the flicker issue in the 4.5 and newly released 4.6 drivers. Hopefully by 4.7 the issue will be resolved. Regardless of your ATI card, use the 4.4 drivers for now.
