okay guys have you play beyond good and evil so far it pretty
good game you play reporter name jade .the story
every day on the planet hillys, the domz attacks strike the population. the alpha section intervention troops seem incapble
of protecting the people.
you play the part of jade, a young reporter with a mysterious past
you succed in saving the planet hillys and unveiling the secrets
of domz invasion? your best weapon are your camera and your
faithful companions, your desire to reveal the truth, but watch out!
the dividing line between good and evil is sometime very thin,
indeed.
for playstation2,gamecube,pc,xbox

I finished it last weekend (on PC) and enjoyed it quite a lot although it is a bit short and simple. As a Tomb Raider I am used to telling my character to jump when I think she should jump. Not in this game. But the game developers take more and more freedom from us.

Want to play a tough game? Play Wallace & Gromit. ;)

^^^Please,Tomb Raider is more craptacular than anything out there like it. In some cases, some surpass TR.

Regarding BG&E,please support a title like this. Its not everyday you see original/innovative titles like this.

disco-fever is right, it's craptacular if you're looking for a clone for Tomb Raider. The game doesn't have jump-button, guns, ...

however, the game is an awesome (stealth) adventure, unique in it's kind.

True, it is a bit short and steering Jade is sometimes unneccessarily complicated bc the camera "freezes" - but the story is really good (beyond good :D ) and the characters are well sketched and full of life. I really enjoyed it, when Jade and Pej celebrate their success:) :)!
As for being a TR clone: No! IMO the only similiarity is the fact that the main character is female. It's far too easy, it can't be compared to "classic" TR. But it nevertheless is good entartainment.
BTW and maybe a bit OT: is BG&E's design "Anime" style? If so, I must say I liked it :o

Craptacular Tomb Raider Clone :p

Whats a craptacular Tomb Raider Clone. You couldn't possible be talking about Beyond Good and Evil:confused: .

Its nothing like TOmb Raider

Its a non-linear rpg style action adventure game
Jade is nothing like Lara shes a reporter not an archeoligist and she doesn't even carry guns. Not to mention she not as violent or as supermodel looking as lara.
It looks completly different in fact everything about this game is different
The gameplay is too unique to be compared to Tomb Raider it revolves around phototaking and stuff, where in Tomb Raider do you take photo's

I love Tomb Raider but just because a game happens to have a female protaganist doesn't automatically make it a Tomb Raider clone. Maybe Unchartered Drakes fortune is a Tomb Raider clone but then Tomb Raider could be considered an Indiana Jones clone.

That game is awesome,my friend has it.
I agree with hummingbird87, just because it has a female protagonist doesn't mean it is a TR clone.

BG&E is mentioned in every game article as a great game no one played for a reason:

It's just a great game. :D The only thing that make it less than perfect are the lack of bonus play options and a sequel.

No one played it because of bad advertising. It went under the radar of most gamers. I don't know why. I guess the risk of it being hated was greater than the risk of everyone loving it. (or they had better things to promote)

Its not a tomb raider clone and stands on its own. IF you parallel them they're both great games. You can't compare them if their both great in their own genre.

Its more like a zelda clone but with picture taking and stealth.

After that its a great and exellent game that I'm trying to get through for the second time. I had to buy it on ebay cause I couldn't find it anywhere else.

Loved BG&E! There are some moments when it feels a BIT like TR, but I certainly wouldn't call it a TR clone as some people do.

Only thing I didn't like was the final battle... I couldn't beat it, and eventually gave up. Up until that point, though, it was great.

I think one reason its sales suffered is because of its odd style. It was presented as a childish cartoon, yet it dealt with somewhat mature themes, and people didn't quite know what to make of it.

Not to mention the short, short length:(

Alot of people say this has a cartoonish look but I actually bought the game mainly because of how it looks. Its a bit cartoonish and quircky at times but its also got a nice fantasy and stylised look to it. Its like a Disney movie.

Hey does anyone herre have a copy of this article from the Christmas Issue of the Edge or know where I can get a copy?

You know, the game is as long as it needs to be. Length isn't an issue for me if I thoroughly enjoy what's there and feel I got my money's worth. ICO isn't a long game either, but the effect of the game is so profound, I never felt slighted that it wasn't longer. (Although the extras included in the PAL version would have been nice.)

I agree about the "cartoonish look" being a put off for some gamers, because I too usually don't play games that don't look "real." But so many articles mentioned the game as a "great game no one played" that I had to see what had so many game journalists talking about a commercial failure.

I didn't think BG&E was short at all. Ok, it wasn't massive like TR3 or 4, but those games may have been overkill anyway. I think BG&E was long enough to be satisfying, yet concise enough to remain interesting. And there were ways to prolong it (hunting for more gems, mini-games, etc.) Or maybe it just seemed long to me because I played it after playing TRL, so by comparison, it was enormous.

OVERKILL?

No such thing as overkill when it comes to the size of a Tomb Raider game.

I laughed because to me, BG&E stands for Baltimore Gas & Electric.

Lenght normally isnt an issue for me either but in this case it was a bit of an isuue because I enjoyed this game too much and there was no sequel so I really didn't want it to end. But Yes I also prefer games that dont sacrifice quality and content for lenght.

But yeah I prefer a game that has lots of variation and content even if that comes at the expense of lenght.

You know what else is really short. Tomb Raider Legend. A few extra levels would have added to the replay value of that game.

I bet they atleast have better marketing than the videogame BG&E

Depends on how much time you have. When I was a kid, and I had summer vacations and whatnot, sure, it was great to play extremely long games. Now, though, working full time and having a lot of other responsibilities, I simply can't invest months into playing a video game.

As for TR3 specifically, some of the levels were a bit TOO big for my taste, even back then. They stopped being fun and just became a bit tedious because of all the backtracking. I would have preferred more smaller levels.

I agree some needlessly long games can become a burden sometimes.

I haven't finished Tomb Raider 3 but the levels i did play were a bit too long for me too. And there wasnt that much variation in the levels so it was more a chore than a pleasure to play.

Beyond Good & Evil?

Such a great game was never more overlooked than this title :( something I'm guilty of doing. I only played through it myself for the first time this year.

Fantastic game!

Me too actually:o I kind of spotted it in a game store and the cover looked good but I wasn't sure I wanted it.

I kind of feel stupid for passing it the first time but thankfully I saw a screenshot somewhere and then actually went to the official website and read various review and finally realised how much I wanted this game. ANd I was really lucky to find a brand new xbox version on store shelves. And this was like in 2005, LUCKY:D
