View Full Version : System Crashing on Save game loading

On certain save games, my cd-rom has spun down before the level loading progress indicator even begins. I can alt-tab out to windows and my mouse pointer graphic shows the spinning cd, but nothing is happening -- my drive is down and I can't even open the tray. I used task manager to find the culprit and noticed that deus ex: IW didn't even list as an open application. Under processes I noticed that Ion_launcher.exe was running and could not be shut down.

Eventually I have to cut all power to my system and reboot to recover. I thought it might be a corrupt save file (it may still be, but it is repeatable) so I deleted all my saves and started from scratch. After about an hour and a half of gameplay the proplem persists.

I guess it's time to shelve the game until a patch is released, :( . Too bad, considering I've been waiting for this game since Jesus Christ walked the Earth a second time.

What about getting a quick save/quick load option for the pc in a patch? I can't believe the game doesn't have this anyway -- makes me think the game was made for the xbox then ported to the PC.

I am having the same problem. :(

Game crashes when I load any of my saved games, even though yesterday they loaded just fine.

When the game crashes I can AltTab and get to the task manager, where i find, like the previous poster, dx.exe and ion_launcher.exe. Also, in my task bar, there is a app button with a blank program icon that i can only assume is ion_launcher.exe crashing.

I have set both apps to run in Win2k comp mode as other users have suggested, but that did not improve anything.

I'm getting the same problem, and I'm playing the game on Xbox. No matter what save game I choose to load, it crashes back to the dashboard. I can't remember ever having problems like this with a console game. Very very frustrating.

Something just occured to me though, that might be the cause of this... do you guys have a LOT of games saved? Maybe it has a problem with a large number of savegames. Anyway, I'll see if I can at least delete some of the old saves without it crashing. Hopefully, that's it.

I got dx2 for xbox because the demo ran like crap on my pc. :/

Ok, that sort of worked. Delete a few of the older save games if you have a lot of them. Like, roughly the number of saves since the last time you loaded successfully. Then load the last game you can remember that actually loaded.

Here's what I think happened: I think they either got lazy, or had an idiot program how saved games were handled. I think the problem with saved games is a result of a fairly common programming error, and they used a non-dynamic array of some sort to deal with saved games. So, when you go over the predefined number of saved games it can handle, the game crashes when you try to load one of them. If this is the case, I'm really surprised it made it out of alpha testing. That's very easy to test for, and 100% repeatable.

If you had no idea what I was talking about, here's a translation: The game *might* have a predetermined number of saved games possible, and any games saved after you've reached that limit will be fubared. So you may want to keep the number of saves you have to a reasonable number.

Hope this helps you guys.

deleted all save games but 3 of'em

STILL CTD ALL THE TIME!!!

This gonna be a big issue if even the xbox game is crashing when loading a game... theres no chance to make a patch for that on xbox (maybe over xbox live but not all of the users have it...)

Ion Storm is ****ed up... Warren why did u not take more care???

I'm having the same problem. From the symbol of the loader program i guess the copy protection is causing the problem.

I've bought a lot of games in the last 2 years, and many of them showed the same symbol during start of the game and the CD-ROM led flashed like crazy.

 I hope Eidos solves this problem fast
