I saw on www.avault.com that eidos has issued another patch for AoD. No word on what it fixes.

Get it from here:

Hm, might just be the 49 patch without the benchmark NVidia cried about.

Exactly what I suspect, GA. I wonder if it's wise to install the v.52 patch in addition to the first two?

Who knows. I just hope Eidos' information policy is well. Being locked down all alone in the dark basement. :D

I downloaded this patch from the eidos.uk site, and it contained a virus - one called http backdoor or something similar. I had to use Viruscan to remove it from my hard drive. What's up with that?

I just scanned it with Norton Anti Virus 2003 and nothing it's ok.

Well, I downloaded it again, from a different location, and tested again. AVG Viruscan, updated 4 days ago, detects the following virus: Backdoor.http.B. It could not discreetly disable or quarantine the virus, and had to remove the entire file. I hate to say it, but I wouldn't trust something just because a Norton consumer virus protection says it's ok. I've had bad luck with them, and don't trust them.

On the Symantec virus encyclopedia there is no Backdoor.http.b virus. A search on google gave me 0 results. Is this a virus of which AVG Virusscan has the exclusive rights to detect it?

So has anyone run the game with this patch to see if it fixes anything?

It's pretty dam flakey for a patch to come out with no info on what it's supposed to improve. This seems about par for the course with this game and its developer.

Well, it could be something that Viruscan just thinks is a virus, but isn't. I ain't giving advice here - but I'm not opening it on my hardrive. What you do is your business.

I don't trust Viruscan, it is known to generate some bogus virus alerts.

Well, as you say, it may be a false positive - or it may be a peice of code that Viruscan doesn't like for good reason, just harmless in present application. If I needed ( or thought I needed) the patch I'd probably risk it, but my current version is running well, and I don't have an Nvidia card, so I won't risk it. Different strokes for different folks. It would be easy enough to figure out what the offending file really was, if I cared. But I don't.:D

Has anyone made it work with savegames? My game dumps to windows with an error message now, when loading a previous version's savegame.

Thanks, Goran, I've got several savegames on the other machine.

I think my problem here is a configuration prob with the laptop, I'll test it out on my home machine (if I ever get to go home, that is).

just found a new (minor) bug with the new patch, easily fixed, just a bit annoying

its to do with stairs AGAIN. if you've got walk on and you go down some stairs turn off walk, cause if youre on spiral stairs + need to turn (eg. von croy's apartment) you turn REALLY slow

just thought id mention it:cool:
