I was quite curious about downloadable content for Theatrhythm US release or when it will be available if at all? If anybody knows I appreciate the info cause I'm really looking forward to this game. I love the music from the Final Fantasy series!

I really, really hope Square Enix releases all of the TR DLC in North America. I'm still bummed that we didn't get all of the Dissidia 012 DLC over here. :-(

I never really liked the idea of DLC. In the older generations of games, we got everything in the game. Now we got to pay more for the full game unless we wait for the Platinum/Game Of The Year edition. And that typically takes a year or more and sometimes there's even more DLC released after that (I'm looking at you, Civilization V).

So yeah, mixed feelings on Theatrhythm having DLC.

I really don't mind the DLC as long as it's cheap and there are alot of options and I really love the music in the Final Fantasy series so I really hope they implement alot of music choices from all of their titles.

tiaeltaru
31st May 2012, 13:42
There's already a plethora of song/stages in the game itself, the DLC songs are merely extras, buy them if you want, but you certainly aren't missing anything by not getting them.

Well I know there are alot of songs in the game itself but I like having the option to have more.

The producer of Theatrhytm stated in an interview that all the DLC is basically the music that they wanted to include in the game but literally could not fit on the 3DS cartridge for capacity reasons. The game ships with over 70 songs, which was all the cart could hold.

So I've absolutely been dying to play this game. I have it on pre-order, but is there any chance of a downloadable demo appearing in the Nintendo eShop sometime before the game is released? I know they released a demo in Japan, and I've been hoping they'll release it for us North American gamers as well.

Squall-Nathan
2nd Jun 2012, 13:36
I've been wanting to play this game too. I'm so happy they just added Otherworld with the most recent dlc in Japan. As for the demo it's possible because demos have been added to the e-shop and simliar games like Dissidia and Duodecim both got demos here in America. With E3 next week and Theatrhythm being a big game the demo might be announced next week.

That's good! I'm awful with money. I'm too impulsive. That's why I like preorders at GameStop, because I can make payments towards my games over long periods of time and have them save the money for me. Some of Gamestop's practices annoy me, but that's what keeps me coming back again and again.

Squall-Nathan
23rd Jun 2012, 09:37
I haven't preordered the game yet. I usually just pick it up on release day. I don't know why...I could be getting all of the preorder bonuses. There's just no need to preorder when there's 5 gamestops within a mile. One of them has to have the game I want in stock. Although that gripped stylus is pretty enticing; with a Squall sticker. Does anyone know if it's too late to get the bonus?

When I see a game I want I pre-order cause I know sometimes, especially with Final Fantasy and Tales of titles. They tend to go Out Of Stock if you want to get it on release. But I put all the money down to buy the game cause I know my significant other would spend the money on cigarettes or something so I gotta make sure I have the money lol.

I'm sure you can still get it, normally it's while supplies last, so I'm sure if you pre-order and get the store early like when it opens you can get the extras. Funny thing though cause FFVIII is my first and favorite FF to own, I was thinking about the Squall sticker too and a Chocobo as well. Haha. ^^

I just tried posting on the news article about this problem, but apparently the mods don't want that seen as three other comments have been approved since I tried posted but mine hasn't been. My DLC had worked since Day 1. I bought Fleeting Dream and Fighting Fate. :)

I think the reason for the delay depends on which state you live in because there is tax on each song you buy. Living in Michigan myself there is a .06 tax on each .99 song making it 1.05$ Perhaps Square is still sorting out the tax for each individual state since I've heard some people say it's only .03 where they live.

Squall-Nathan
5th Jul 2012, 11:21
So will I get taxed if I live in MO? I usually don't get taxed on online purchases.

Even if you do get taxed the most you lose out on is one song. My tax is .06 which is the highest I've seen so far and 19 songs x 1.05$ comes out to $19.95. Even those with a .03 tax lose out on a song with 19 x $1.02 = $19.38. So unless your state doesn't tax online then your looking at 19 songs per $20.

LinkRoxas
6th Jul 2012, 23:26
I heard that these 8 songs price will eventually go up?

iambasho777
6th Jul 2012, 23:34
That's doubtful. For the Japanese DLC, they announced the price as 150 yen (around $1.80) but said that the first 8 would be 100 yen (around $1.20) for a limited time to give people incentive to buy them early. The article here said no such thing - it just said that it would be $0.99. When buying items like this kind of DLC you rarely ever buy just one item (you usually buy 4-5 of these at a time), so they did that to get people to buy one so that it'd be more likely for them to buy more later. Americans on a whole have a much lower opinion of DLC though, and rhythm games are kinda looked down upon here as childish. If the price went up much at all they wouldn't really sell all that much of it so they stand to gain more by leaving it as it is.

Summoner
7th Jul 2012, 10:38
Yeah I doubt it will go up, last time I was on iTunes they sell 1 song for .99c. But I feel like I'm getting a better deal with Theatrhythm songs cause they come with 3 difficulties for each song and a background and monsters/npc's in the song. The only thing I wish they would do it make it so that when you buy dlc songs they are in your game's music playlist since you bought it.

There's actually a previous post that explains how it works, the songs are chosen randomly but there's a code to know what songs they are. There's 10 song possibilities for both the FMS and BMS songs and they're designated by the number in the actual title of the Dark Note (0-9 for each of the two digits).
If they were to allow other songs into the Chaos Shrine, it would take away from this decoding system.

So the next batch of DLC hits Europe July 12th, (hopefully us here in NA too!), and it's the same as Japan's second set but includes FFV Final Battle, (a song from Japan's 3rd batch) instead of the song from Type-0. Guess that means the DLC we get is subject to change and that Type-0 may never be released here.

Well people have their own opinions, I really do enjoy most of the Final Fantasy series though people assume just because it's too different from what they are used to; most people then just say it sucks cause they don't want to adapt. I only had a problem with XIII cause I didn't really feel like I was playing like the other Final Fantasies.

I have played both of demos that were on the Japanese PSN before the game launched and thought the game was great. I haven't been able to play the full game because it hasn't been localized, obviously. Still with the Type-0 DLC song MIA, we may not got Somnus from Versus either.

But since Type-0 isn't coming here, at least for the foreseeable future, they removed it from the DLC.

Seems they are mixing it up from the JP release and EU release, seeing as we got Somnus today from Versus XIII, Sarutabaruta, Desperate Struggle, the latter 2 just released for Japan DLC.

Desperate Struggle ($0.99) - FFXIII
The battle theme used for missions on Gran Pulse in FFXIII. The variegated tones of the violins inspire within you the thrill of facing down your target!

Sarutabaruta ($0.99) - FFXI
A field song from FFXI. The ocarina's gentle timbre soothes the spirit and the idyllic melody brings to mind the plains of Sarutabaruta, dotted with ruins.

Battle ($0.99) - FFVI
The main battle theme of FFVI. From the familiar intro, the drums crash in and trumpets soar in this rock-inspired and fiery battle song.

Somnus ($0.99) - Final Fantasy Series (FF Versus XIII)
The title of this song, played during the trailer for FF Versus XIII, means 'sleep,' but there is nothing restful about the forceful vocals singing of coming war.

Wow. I wasn't expecting them to change up the DLC but now that they have I'm glad. I see the schedule is only for 3 weeks but I'm sure it will continue on because there are at least 40 or so songs that Japan got as DLC that weren't on that list. (Still waiting for Otherworld and Force Your Way)

Atleast this means that Type-0 can still get its song in as DLC.

Today's was okay. Honestly, I'm getting tired of the onslaught of FFX tracks, though I'm okay with the battle theme; we're getting five of them this month. The real highlight for me this week was "This Is the Last Battle" - glad they included the intro. A bit irritated that we're not getting FFI DLC this month when other installments have gotten a lot of attention. Even though I'm thrilled by the sheer amount of extra content they're releasing, I don't think it's been very well balanced so far this month.

I agree with both of the bolded statements. Out of all the tracks for FFX that they're releasing in Aug, the only one I'm definitely getting is "Otherworld", which I love, and I may get "The Final Battle". The "Battle Theme" was ok when playing the game; but listening to it outside the game, it just really isn't all that appealing to me. If they're going to release all these FFX tracks, then they really, REALLY need to release "People of the North Pole" and it'd be really nice if they released "Hurry" and "Attack". And yeah, "This Is the Last Battle" was my favorite this week; I also got "The Dalmasca Estersand", which I think is decent.

I'd also really like to see them release a good number of songs from FFVI that would be great FMS scores and also some more from FFVII that would be good FMS or BMS songs.

I generally find that X easily has the weakest OST and is infested with filler. The tracks you mention (minus "Enemy Attack," which I do not care for) make my 21-track edit and I'd probably buy. I've bought all of the DLC thus far and plan on buying the rest, as I'm really enjoying just having additional stages to play, but I think they should pay attention to some of their less represented titles; to their credit, they've given a lot of attention to III and V, neither of which I expected them to, as well as XII, which while similarly not one of my favorite OSTs, has gotten some great DLC.

WisemanWong
10th Aug 2012, 09:42
Heh heh, actually I've gotten exactly half of the dlc songs released so far. And again I agree with you regarding both FFIII and V, I've gotten all of the FFV dlc songs so far and I plan on getting the 3 that will be released in the next 3 weeks; and I've gotten both of the FFIII songs released this week and last week. Also, I was thinking the same thing about FFXII as you said - it isn't an OST that I enjoy very much overall but their selection of songs from it have been some of the better ones IMO thus far. As far as FFX, I don't know if I'd say it has the weakest FF OST IMO...it definitely has a lot of somewhat mediocre tracks; but then it also has tracks that I REALLY love like the ones I mentioned above, "Battle With Seymour", "Suteki Da Ne" and its variants, and a few others, which at least somewhat make up for the host of crappy to mediocre rest of the OST. http://na.square-enix.com/tools/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif

Actually no, it doesn't...I wasn't going to say anything but I guess I might as well correct this with so many posts going back and forth; well, correct it to the extent of my knowledge at least. The original poster did not specify whether he was referring to DLC for a physical or digital game, which hopefully we all know that both can have DLC and also stated "a Nintendo console" and not the 3DS (or DSi) specifically and if you really wanted to get technical the 3DS is a handheld, not a console but I'm not going to get that technical. Given those pieces of info, the first DLC that I know of for "a Nintendo console system" was the first "Character Tale" that was released for Final Fantasy IV: The After Years on Wii and if you want to count it as a group, then all 7, I believe, of the "Character Tales" and "The Final Story". Regardless of whether or not it's labeled as "DLC" on the Wii since I don't know that there was ever any plan for DLC on the Wii, I feel confident that this meets the definition of DLC as it relates to video games. And I'm not trying to be facetious but after so many posts about it, I figured I'd add that tidbit. Again, I may be mistaken so if anybody knows of any DLC released in NA for a Nintendo system prior to that, feel free to correct me.

Anyway, as far as the songs I've downloaded thus far, they are as follows:

FFIII - "This is the Last Battle"
FFIII - "The Crystal Tower"
FFIV - "The Final Battle"
FFV - "In Search of Light"
FFVI - "Battle"
FFVII - "Fight On!"
FFVII - "Cosmo Canyon"
FFX - "A Fleeting Dream"
FFXI - "Gustaberg"
FFXII - "The Dalmasca Estersand"
FFXIII - "Fighting Fate"
FFXIII - "Desperate Struggle"
FFXIII - "March of the Dreadnoughts"
FFXIII - "The Archylte Steppe"

I will say, though I've been generally happy with the DLC selections, their release schedule has been really patchy and unbalanced this month. Why are they waiting until September to give FFI any DLC (Sunken Shrine & Mayota) while we've got three weeks of the same four games being represented? Seems like poor pacing, to me.

Better sales if they pace them; it's smarter for them to release in weekly batches, keeping interest and revenue alive. Similarly, it allows the promotional campaign and cycle to breath as opposed to simply drowning the fanbase in DLC from the first day. I'm not bothered by that, I definitely like the continual releases better, I just wish there was some sense of tact in their specific track schedule.

On another note, I'm a bit disappointed in there being no FFVI or VII on the list. It looks like this is FFVIII month...they really need at least 5 weeks in a row where there is a FFVI song released because there are soooooo many good songs on that game and so far there's only been what, 1 dlc song? /tools/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-frown.gif

I'm curious as to whether September 20th is the final DLC release? It's odd to me that there's one more week in September after that (the 27th), but they don't have it listed...

Tell me about it, and it was only the battle theme. They need to start including some of the fantastic character themes. On top of that "The Veldt" and the theme for Zozo really need to show up as DLC.

The last DLC list will bring us up to 52, which is the same amount Japan has been at for around 2 months now (they only got DLC every other week, so their DLC ended a little after we got the game). There is some hope they'll announce new DLC at TGS, but that's unlikely. Also, I believe the reason there's so little VI DLC is because that has the most on-disc songs of all XIII.

I really hope not since there are still so many great tracks that they could release from many of the FF titles, especially FFVI and really FFVII as well. It would also be great if they would ever do a patch that let you play dlc songs in the Music Player, which I know has been mentioned quite a bit before. Another thing I was thinking would be cool is if they would include a new background and maybe 1 new monster with each dlc song or maybe each weekly set; but I doubt that will ever happen since it hasn't yet and it may be too costly and/or require too much storage space to do that. But that was still something I thought would be nice after playing through the first few dlc songs I played.

I'm still not sure why we got so many from X or XII; I understand that because there were so many for VI in game that there was less need for VI DLC. This month is shaping up to be much better than August. The Castle and Sunken Shrine? Awesome.

Well, after September 20th, they'll have made $52 plus the $40 the game cost from me.... hopefully that may be incentive for them to release more in the future, if other people purchased a lot, like me.

I hope they release more too. It'd be cool if they released some of the really iconic tracks that got passed over like "Liberi Fatali" while still digging up some lesser known gems like "Flying Fortress"

Will there be more dlc starting this week or the last dlc batch was last Thursday?

Now that they're done making DLC, perhaps they'll patch the game so that we can listen to the DLC tracks in the music player. A lot of those are among my favorite Final Fantasy songs, and it's aggravating to not be able to listen to them.

I mean, I spent more on the DLC than I did on the game itself. It's not that much to ask.

I'm hoping for this as well. It'll be strange to have exclusive songs/characters/etc. in two different versions of the game; especially if you've already bought most of the DLC in the 3DS version.

with all honestly, i could've bought more DLC songs if it's playable in the music player... that feature seems like a missed opportunity...

if this will ever happen, I'm sure some people would even buy DLC songs just for listening purposes, it's like buying songs from itunes...

Is SE ever gonna bring the full game to the eShop? I wanted to get it but all most retailers near me didn't have it. /tools/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-cry.gif

The new title is 'Bravely Default: Flying Fairy', and there's no word on a digital release either for that or for Theatrhythm that I know of.

I've heard before that Rinoa, Tifa, Garnet & etc. was the iOS exclusive characters for Theatrhythm. Are there any chances to be released them on the 3DS version? Sorry, I'm kind of new here. Thanks! If not, Why they aren't added on the 3DS since they're the 2nd main characters on Final Fantasy ( ies )
